My computer says it has a virus. well a POP-up box says that. It says I have 3 viruses...
1) Trojan PSW.Win 32.launch 2) hack tool:win32/Welevate A 3) Adware.win32 Fraud
it says they are active, are critical & need removed.
It wanted me to download some .exe program to clean up my computer, but I thought better of that, so,...I first ran a quick scan and then a full systems scan & it said all was well, and that I was secure. I was wondering what you thought of all of this.
I used to have Norton Antivirus but it was so costly that when it was time to renew, one of my son-in-laws (both work in the IT world) put the below free antivirus on my computer...
I have Microsoft Security Essentials on my computer for my virus and spyware security protection. It had said it updated everything on the 24th, but I just updated everything just in case. It still says I am secure. I am thinking that if I download this "cleanup tool" I will in reality be downloading the virus, what is your opinion ??
thanks in advance.

Don't download anything, the thing telling you that you have a virus is malware. Go download the free version of AvastGo download " Spybot Search & DestroyInstall, run, do a full scan, pray it can remove it as is... I had a client bring in a computer that had one of these nasty buggers installed and it took a larger hands on experience to fix; but since you're able to go to websites (hers made changes to the system that made it so she couldn't go to sites to download virus removers) it should be easier.

I am glad you got it in the nub, Carol. Those are some nasty messes. well really I just ran my anti-virus, twice--then my DD & my sister both told me to not pay any attention. so I deleted it all. I am now running the spybot search & destroy---so far 4 things have popped up--now how to find the way to delte them when it is all done running. Thanks to all of you, and esp thanks to James.
