My last post in the last CH was supposed to read "Nap time" not p time. haha
I didn't sleep but I did rest which is a good thing.
I'm thinking I'll clear my forum cookies and see if that helps me here any. It is slow going on this site.

Yes, expiring the cookies helped quite a bit. I have found that sites with active ads are not kind to my old computer. That includes FaceBook and gmail.

Good morning. Hump day for this week. It is cooler here today and that is a good thing for the rest of the country. It means our high is beginning to push that vortex back to the arctic where it belongs. I hope everyone warms back to normal temps very soon.

Hi all.... we are in the 40's today... finally ... and may hit 50's by Sat, hope this is the end of freezing for us for a while... it's enough cold...

I am going to work on my office clean up today... get rid of stuff.. take it to the donation center... for some reason I have a whole shelf of vases from flowers I have gotten over the yrs.. really don't need all of them- will keep a few that I like and donate the rest... and have a box of paperbacks that can go to the library... that will give me more storage room in there....

We will have the boys for a while this afternoon.. first day of school after vacation for them.. Nicoli went late- new meds just knocked him out and he had trouble waking up so he went late but he went so that is good... Carrie said she will cut the pills in half and see if that helps .. it's to prevent the abdominal migraines .. his next apt will be with a headache specialist to see if there is another way to get him thru this or another med that would be better...
hopefully one that won't drug him so much he can't wake up in the morning..

Well off to get busy.... have a good day all!

Nana

I am glad you are all warming a bit. But still keep safe out there. My news said something about another possible vortex coming early next month. So keep plenty of food and things to cover your needs.
I had a long day and really don't have much to show for it. I did nap for an hour or so this afternoon. And fixed some sprinklers that needed doing. I popped bacon and hash browns into the crock this morning so some basics of dinner were accomplished. But the day still seemed slow to me.

I didn't get lots accomplished today but some so am happy with what got done- boys had good days in school too so one hurdle down... always hard to go back after a long vacation time...

I did collect the laundry and am almost done with it- I am watching SVU and going to get last load out and fold it all now... did find a sheet to use for the next weighted blanket I am making for Nicoli- when I was Christmas shopping I found a Walking Dead throw - he loves that show so am making it with that... his birthday is next month so will be a good present for him... and I won't have to hurry to make it.

Has any one ever gone to the Mt Rushmore area .. we want to go this summer and need ideas of where to stay... not camp... hotel or B and B...Carrie went last yr but they stayed at a KOA - that's a little rustic for us..

Well off to fold clothes...

Nana

Nana: My DD has some friends who are from there--I will see waht I can find out for you.

It is still cold here even if it is above 0. I cannot get much done, it is so cold..The furnace runs just about constantly.

Glad that you are getting the items you need for your balnket for Nicoli, nana. I really need to get out & buy my pre-quilted blanket that I am making for valarie for her baby shower.--I need to buy the items now b/c I too need fleece for the back of the blanket. If I do that the stitching his kept away from little fingers & it also becomes a snuggly blanket, not just a decorative one.... shewinks

night night--I am going to bed soon--sleep well & keep warm everyone snooz

Good morning. I slept until my alarm woke me. It took a while to actually wake because I didn't recognize the noise.
Carol, I too hope the forecast changes to something more pleasant. And my bacon dish is not something that people who are afraid of fat should consider. Because I leave all of the good fat in it. I am more concerned about the nitrates and such stuffed into modern processed meats than I am the fat in general.
Nana, you are so good for your grands. And a heavenly blessing for their parents. I have never been to Rushmore.

Sounds as if you slept well, Tina--good for you.

It snowed again today--but only like an inch. it is 25 right now but it feels warmer---

I have never been to Mt. Rushmore either, I doubt if I ever will be. why It makes me happy others get to go though.

Tina: I just wanted to let you know:

Awhile back, I posted that I was flustered because I had to get ready to go stay over-night at Emily's on a moment's notice. You had suggested that I keep a packed bag at the ready so as to avoid that situation. I want to tell you that I just finihsed packing said bag & that once I have to take it to her house, I will leave much of it in her spare bedroom.

I thanks you again for the wonderful advice.

Babies are like that, Carol. Even if you are all spiffy-ed up and ready, they tend to get sick on you or something and leave you wishing for a clean shirt at best. There have been times in my past where I wouldn't have had much to spare from my wardrobe to pack. But I always had a spare toothbrush and something tucked to grab and go. You may still need something on hand for your next grandbaby as well.
In my van I carry an extra jacket and clean socks and stuff for both Ted and I. All of the time. I try to keep some water in there most of the time. I most often have some type of food. But food and water are tricky to store in my car in the summer. Then there is the wool blanket and a couple of the emergency reflective blankets I keep in there. And a tarp. All packaged up neatly. I am all about being prepared for most contingencies. I think I am actually paranoid about being stuck in my car somewhere.
I have gotten a few things done around here this morning. I will stop at a store for a couple of necessities before I pick Teddy up from school.

Rod is strange---I am no0t allowed to have "extra stuff" in the car. I put in in & when he drives the car ever, he take it out. Thankfully I was allowed to have a container for clothing, etc. in the back when the kids were at home---I guess I should be thankful for small favors.

As for clothing--I have a few pieces of clothing at Emily's now--an extra blouse and socks for just the reasons you stated. PLUS an extra girdle as I have to wear them when I watch Luke to protect my abdomen.

The spare toiletries are what I plan on keeping at her house, you never know when/if I might get snowed in.

I keep extra toothbrushes, etc. in the house here--for guests.

Sadly, I will not need something extra for the next grandchild. Valarie lives a 3 hour drive away. If I was going there I would be living out of a suitcase anyway. I will forever be "The Other Grandma"...the one not actually liked or loved---it will be a proximity thing. The other grandma is already planning on babysitting. She lives 5 minutes away.

The other Grandma is not unloved. I had my maternal grandmother just minutes away most of my childhood. My true paternal grandmother died when my father was 9. So I never knew her. But my step-father's mother was alive and well all the way across the country in Connecticut. Her whole life she never stepped foot out of Conn. She was full of mystery but not unloved. And when I was 14 I flew across country alone and spent the summer with those grandparents. I loved the stories and felt truly joyful to have that time with them. As a young adult I moved to Connecticut not too far from that grandmother and visited and shared my baby girl with her. It was lovely.
Do something for the long distance child that shows he/she has a part of your heart. Like from day one take pictures of them with you when you do get to visit. Take pictures of things you do together as much as possible. Keep them in an album or scrapbook to show that they have a time and a place with you. Someday, you will be able to show this older child how important he/she was to you.

Have fun with Luke! Both sets of Colt's grand parents live far away. Glad to say he's more familiar with me than the other grandmother BUT it's because I've made the effort to call him every day since he's learned to talk, once in a while I send him a card, and once in a while I send him a little fun package with a truck or book or lately Buzz Lightyear Underoos. Then his mom has him call me and tell me thank you so it's a contact. Ginger has told me his other grandmother never contacts him or sends anything. The postage is what costs the most because he's thrilled with the tiniest thing as long as he gets mail.

I keep a bag in my trunk all the time for ball games. We've been at the ball park when it has rained, snowed, sleeted, and the sun has shone all during a one day tournament so I'm prepared for whatever. I also carry chairs all the time.

Good morning. I spent most of my evening yesterday on the phone trying to get reconnected to the internet. I will be back on the phone again today to get the wireless working. It is not after the hard reset of my modem. Well, it might be working but it's password protected and I no longer know the password because it was changed. (sigh)
And I am up well before my alarm. I see a nap in my near future.

A long day. I did go back to Verizon to complete my wireless set up. The guy decided I needed a new modem so it was shipped to me before noon today. Fun.
I didn't shop for the weekend needs this morning so I'll need to go out tomorrow.

He said to Rod as we were leaving:
"Bye, See you later"...

also he just saw the tail end of a back hoe go by his house & for like 5 minutes he said, "Tractor where are you???"

My car is till in the garage---I still have like 3 feet of snow against the garage door. Ihave places I HAVE to go tomorrow & things I have to do!!!--- nervous why Rod dropped me off on his way to work...it was a LONG day!!!!

Good Morning breakfast

It rained yesterday rainy and now the roads are clear, but my drive-way apron is still snow packed. Rod shoveled me out so I could go on my way today. I'll be back as I can.

I also went out. I did business at two banks and stopped to shop for a few things. I am in for the day now. I have beef in the crock for burritos later. It is already a good day and just half past noon.

Do you mean 'see' so you can park straight and know when to stop and such, Carol? And driving a new vehicle can always take the umph out of you. I hope you get the rest you need tonight.

Good morning. I stripped one bed and it is in the washer already. Others will follow. Then some clipping and snipping and we will be getting ready for the school week ahead.
We have uncommonly warm weather for the time of year. 10 years and 2 days ago it was such a warm night for January that I called my family out on the front porch to feel it. John came out and said "Earthquake weather". We enjoyed the evening for a bit and then came back in to get ready for bed. In the wee hours of the morning there was an earthquake. The Northridge Earthquake. Our damage here was nothing other than no electricity for a day or two. But just a few miles west, people died and lost homes. It makes me think a little.

I remember the Northridge earthquake... that was a terrible one... would make you want to be ready for what could be.. we do the same for being snowed in .. not that it has happened except once.. but you never know... woke up to clouds and a dreary looking day out there.... haven't checked weather to see if it's to stay or not.

I am going to do up the laundry and make a big pot of chili for dinner... and some cornbread... may make a crock of stew up too... will stick in in freezer for later... and some tuna burgers... going to have the procedure on my face on Wed. so don't know how I will feel after that so want to have some meals ready to go and easy...

Well off to get busy... won't get done by itself..... have a good day all!
Nana

Good luck with your procedure, Nana. I hope it all goes smoothly.
And basically, earthquakes are what I prepare for. I am not likely to get a major snow storm or even a hurricane. So earthquakes it is. I have always stocked up for quakes. But I have used my stores in other times like when a small financial crisis has hit. It has seen me through my hard times. Then you rebuild the storehouse when life improves.

hat is a good way to live---about all we stock up is water--We usually have like 3 cases of invidual bottles of water on hand & we use them when they are nearing expiration date & rebuy for storage. I have soap & rags, etc in the basement all the time as well. IN the pantry at nay given time there are many canned goods--so if we had to we could get by. also I have flour & sugar stores in my freezer, that would still be usable if we lost power. I too do what I can.

Nana, I hope that your procedure goes well.

Water is good. I have four 55 gal drums and a few 5 gallon containers. But water is very important here. I try to keep some drinking bottles here but the kids keep wiping me out. And our well water is so good that I don't know why.
We are ready for the school week to begin tomorrow. And I am getting sleepy. It has been a good day.

Good morning. It is pretty windy here and will be most of the week. We are under high fire warnings. And at least one large truck has been flipped and spilled it's goods all over the freeway north of me.
But it should warm up a bit today. I like warm.
