As many of you know, I started my little batch of purple waves indoors and have been proudly pampering them every since. They've been indoors because the weather is still to cool to put them out, but I have been hardening them off, by putting them out for a few hours whenever it's warmer out. A few started to bloom but the flowers on them don't look like purple wave but look like regular petunia. The parent plant had bright pinks flowers, the ones I grew are more pastel pink or violet.

Are all purple waves hybrid, is this what could have happened to mine?. I know the seeds were from my very own purple wave plant?

Yes, waves are a hybrid. But the fact that you have any plants with blooms from the seeds you saved is pretty nice.

This afternoon a dark purple one opened up and for now the flower remains small, just like a wave flower.

The plant I gave to my mother in law bloomed a deeper pink, so looks like I got a mixed bag from my seedlings. I wonder now, if they will grow like a purple wave or will grow like a regular petunia?. I just love these experiments.

yes I love the idea TOO. Please do keep us all informed as to how they end up growing. This is exciting.

Thanks, well guys, I got an awakening today when I bought a real purple wave and compared mine to theirs. Some of the flowers can pass for a purple or pink wave but the leaves are not the same, in the wave, they are a deeper green color and are smaller and the plant more fuller from the bottom, so no, don't think any of my plants are petunia waves. They are imposters, the nerve of them...groan.... However, they do look like cascading petunia's?

What do you guys think, should I try growing purple wave seeds again or will they turn out like this every year? How do I know if they are hybrids, does it say somewhere?
