The heat sucks my energy away. Ted and I went out to shop. I needed fruit and bread and such. We also went to Walmart and picked up some school supplies. (I love that part.) And I put a couple of movies into the cart for Teddy.
But by the time we get home and I pull everything from the van and put it away, I'm bushed already. It is warm out there.

Yes, Heat is a mess, I agree. And I dont know about you but it seems the older I get the faster the heat does me in.

I went to ceramics today but did little of nothing. Then I went to my moms & we waited for the dr to call for an appt time. (we had the date already) So, at 2:30 we got a call to come in at 4:25pm--then we did not see the Dr until well after 5:30. egad
Then mom needed food, so a shopping stop was made. AND I get to repeat this process next week. rolz

Good morning...we had no power again yesterday afternoon and evening. I'll be glad when these storms stop. Rain again for today.

Carol...you need to put a 'family taxi' sign on your car grin

Tina, I can't imagine having to deal with your heat...hoping it cools quickly for you.

Good morning. I am trying not to complain about the heat so much. When I was younger, it didn't get to me so quickly. I am mostly explaining why I am sitting in the cool at my computer when I should be out painting my house or working in the yard or something.
This morning, Ted and I will go out for a few more food items and some more school supplies. Then I plan to go out in the afternoon by myself. Then I should be able to stay home for a couple of days.

Good morning.

Tina, I do not think you are complaining. You are just telling us what is.
I should be outside doing work--but instead, I am inside too. We do what we have to do. I should really be getting up early & going out & working for a few hours. But it seems I sleep best in those hours. why

Sunny: Sorry for the power loss. We keep getting lucky---While it rained again last night, the severe storms they forcast failed to materialize. thumbup

Good afternoon. Just messing around the house, dishes and other such stuff. I did go out today to one store that is not open early. Tomorrow, Ted and I will go out to Michael's to check out more school supplies. Maybe Target too. They are in the same shopping center and the closest one to us.

Painting outside---yep that is on my list for the fall...I think I need to begin to write down my chores so I do not forget them.

It has heated back up but next week it is supposed to cool down again so I will hopefully finish my repairing of my back landscaping.

Ah yes, summer vacation----I bet Teddy is enjoying it.

Today is errands for my MIL & hopefully some bill paying.

Good morning. I have been enjoying not having to set my alarm this vacation time. Ted has been pretty good with it all. He is pretty easygoing. He has enjoyed our trips out to pick up school supplies. We have another one planned today. This is a fun project for both of us.

And a tiring project. We have been trying to get to Michael's for a couple of day's. Today we went but it was not yet open so we went to Target. Filled up a cart with fun stuff for school and when we were done there, Michael's was still not open. So next door to the north a Dollar Tree. More fun school stuff. When we were done there, Michael's was open but we were too tired. Next door to the south is a grocery store. So Ted rode in a large basket because his knees were getting to him and I picked up a few things.
I'm tired now.

Good morning. I walked out with the sun to check out the hillside water lines. I have some work to do up there. I am not as young and agile as I used to be, though.

I was surprised to see some back to school supplies at Walmart on July 1st; school doesn't start up again here until September 2nd; we don't even get their supply list until the end of August, lol...

Yes, Walmart is always early on the seasonal stuff. Our schools all over the city/county begin the first Monday of August. Our schools also do not send out a list. I have encouraged Ted's teachers to send a wish list home. But it doesn't happen. I drive him to school so I ask often if they need anything. And sometimes they do want something from Kleenex to wiggly eyes and feathers.
Ted is special ed and mostly is in kindergarten age academics stuff. So I shop over the summer and get boatloads of things for his whole class of about 12 kids (adults). I have a gross of wide markers and another gross of fine ones. And even more of crayons. about 3 doz each school glue and glue sticks. I've gotten bunches of foam shapes and some foam sheets.
I have a gal each of liquid soap and hand sanitizer. A case of baby wipes and some Lysol wipes as well. I have still to get at least 6 boxes of tissues to start.
I have those fore mentioned wiggly eyes and feathers along with pom poms and pipe cleaners.
For teachers I have tape and double sided tape. Goo Gone and several reams of paper. I still need to get colored paper and some basic construction paper. And whatever else catches my eye as I'm walking around.
I really like this. It is very fun. And as a someone who was involved with the school district, I know teachers go out of pocket for a lot of supplies and they are continually cutting the budgets further.

Wow,,, I thought the 19th of Aug was early to start school... that's when Timothy will start- not sure when the other two start the online one... guess I should ask Carrie ....LOL!
We won't have quite as much to buy this year for the kids with 2 of them doing most of it online this year... will cut down on school clothes too...

I spent the day cleaning out my office- at least the paper stuff- filed and sorted and threw out the crap.... shredded what needed to be shredded... made an apt to see the lawyer about new wills and that kind of stuff too... hope that doesn't cost a small fortune but hopefully it will be last time we need to get it done.. power of atty and medical power of atty too...

I may have to go visit the eye doc again and see if just maybe I need new glasses.. I cannot see to thread my sewing machine- I hope that's all it is - will get them even though my insurance won't pay for another pair this soon... didn't think I would get bad again after having the new lenses put in with the cataract surgery....

We got really hot today- low 90's.. then it clouded up and cooled off- no rain but really nice out there- opened up the house and turned off the cooler... love that!

We are going to the bed and breakfast we love next weekend... will be a nice mini vacation for us.... even if it rains up there it is nice to be by the river and in the woods...

Well I am going to go make some fried taters for dinner- Joe is bbqing steak for us.. that and a salad will be dinner for us tonit...

I had my second laser treatment for the rosacea last Tues, wasn't quite as painful as the first one but my face swelled again and is taking time to go back to normal- at least I woke up able to see this morning- yesterday my eyes were swollen shut ... one more time and I will be done... has helped a lot...

Well off to peel some taters and get Joe out to the grill... I am hungry!

Nana

Yes it is a long school year. They pretty much go to school the same number of days I did or my older kids did. But they have longer vacations in the middle. And a couple of added holidays that I didn't have.

I don't know when the girls start teaching again. I guess I will have to ask, esp as I am watching Luke every Friday this year...and then when Emily goes back to work after her maternity leave is over, I guess I will be watching a baby as well---gee---fun--fun--???

Tina I must say you are certainly a good Mom and a good person. And yes, speaking from experience (my girls are both teachers) teachers do buy much of what they need--You are so kind to be so considerate.

I guess I should go to bed soon. Tomorrow Valarie is driving down to her Dentist's appt. & I am going to get to sit & hold Henry while she is in there--YAY for Grandma !!!!

No, If I were a super mom, my house would be cleaner and other such things. I am telling you, it is just fun. And it is nice to know my son has happy things to do in his time at school.
Good morning. I am up early. But I may just lay back down for a bit.

When we buy school supplies they're from a list but not for our kid's specifically; it's more of a "teachers supplies" list for the year, everything is kind of a group system and shared. It's done that way out here so that one kid doesn't have something that sets their stuff out from the kids who's parents didn't want to or couldn't buy something unique (so other kids don't feel left out).

Personally, I feel that if I wanted my Batman obsessed son to have Batman folders instead of manilla colored ones he should be able to, but 'eh whatever.

I do think that system stifles kids' creativity. Yes some kids have more or better but it should not be made such a point. Uniformity or uniforms don't really work. I prefer to celebrate personalities and individual talents.

I agree completely; before this last school year we just paid the PTA and they bought the generics. This last school year they had us buy specific generics for the class; they're allowed to "decorate" but that's about it...

The whole "everyone has to win" thing sucks, you don't learn to deal with losing; and the whole "everyone has to have the same and conform" thing is just stunting creativity...

I agree.. the everyone wins is not good for kids- they think they are good at everything and then one day find out it's just not true.... you have to fail sometimes to be able to succeed, the PTO here does the generic school pacs too ... everything goes in a bin for everyones use... they usually give back the stuff that's left at end of year but it's usually been trashed,,, and they ask for more all the time...

I guess this year we won't really half to deal with a lot of it... with only Timothy in school and he will be in 8th grade... I think the lists will be on line soon for him so we can do it a little at a time for him...

We just had a terrific hard rain , poured for about 45 minutes.. was nice cause we noticed a small fire in the mtns above us- had to be lightning strike- seems to have put it out at least... had enough of fires in the last couple yrs... Well off to clean up the kitchen and get some laundry started- we spent the day at the Irish Festival today... listened to a lot of good music and saw a lot of neat stuff... at least with it being cloudy the heat didn't get to me....

Have a good evening all,

Nana

I'd love a good hard rain; people complain during the non-summer seasons that it's always raining, then when summer hits and all we have is sun they remember the necessity of a good rain every now and again.

Hello: I know I was MIA, but my daughter drove up from S. Missouri with my grandson & we got to visit...she had a dentist appt.....

That school suppiles new way of doing things, is just plain wrong. So what if some kids have more, or nicer----then a child learns that not everyone gets to have the same things, (that is how life works) & if you are lucky enough to get something special on occasion, then you should appreciate it, and so learn to take care of it...
We were given a list, the minumum was what was on the list. If some kids got more (say a 48 box of colors instead of a 24, then they did...and all the kids delt with it, but guess what, life went on. But that is not how things are going these days---I am so very glad my girls are raised already.

Boy 2 festivals, they both sounded like good times--lucky ladies. shots

MY vacation this year is going to be getting to go to my grandson's Christening next weekend. Thank goodness I get to go the day before, as there will be 3 children getting baptised on the same day, so it will be a very large party...My SIL's family is a large one & this will cut down on expenses & celebrations for the 3 families, as if each couple would be inviting basically the same people. It is most sensible but none of our family is going as a result. Rod & I will be there by ourselves...But I keep telling myself I will be there the day before, so we will get to visit.

And yes, I had a Great day with Henry & Valarie today....

Sounds like a wonderful time, Carol.
I napped today but I'm still exhausted. Sweet dreams.

Once again I am wide awake. Valarie thought Henry's blanket was done & get all excited, so I guess I called that one wrong. I see no way I can get it done in time now but I will give it a shot.

Thanks Tina, Sweet Dreams to you too

Good morning. I could not get in earlier. But all is well now. We have hot and humid weather. Slight possibilities of some t-storms in the mountains. I would like that to happen here, please.

I had no problem getting in, glad your issue went away, Tina.

Storms---yikes----That is not a good thing. I sure hope that they called that one wrong for you, Sunny.

It is clothes washing day here, as I most likley wil be shopping for a gift & card for Henry tomorrow.
Pizza & Salad for supper tonight...

Pizza and salad sounds good. I put lean ground beef and onions into the crock awhile ago. Reading cookbooks for ideas of what magic to do with it for eating for a couple of days.
