I have a potted lilac bush in an 18 inch pot (15 gallons.) I have it now on my front porch facing East.

We have a Freeze Warning in effect from Monday, 1:00 AM CDT until Monday, 9:00 AM CDT. Source: U.S. National Weather Service.

so I am wondering if I need to cover up my lilac bush...it would take a LOT of work to bring it into the garage. what say anyone. should I just cover it up with say sheets or should I go ahead & drag it into the garage ?

A sheet will work...we have to cover our gardens during Summer frost and it works great.

Sheri: My bush has never bloomed. BUT I am keeping it alive so I can give it to my DD when they know they are staying where they are. She likes where they are now & her DH wants to build a house.

Sunny: I have a sheet over the bush itself, and it is Clothespined shut. THEN I took a folded over quilt, and wrapped it around the pot. The quilt is also holding down the sheet to the top of the soil in the pot.

LORDY it is cold out there......are we sure it is April???

Wonder why. How long have you had it? You would love it. So pretty and fragrant.

Valarie had brought this lilac bush home from college when it got too big for her dorm room and planted it at the farm. She graduated in 2002. I took a start in the fall of 2004 and planted it in a pot & brought it with us when we moved here. Now it is in a 15 gallon pot on my front porch. and I bring it in to the garage during the winter. It is a white bush, but while it is growing well, I think it will not flower while potted. But as long as I keep it healthy, I am happy.

lilacs refuse to bloom with restricted roots...it will bounce back when planted.

Well if my DD ever decided they are not moving again, I will give it to her and she will plant it out. In case I have not said, this one is white also.
