Has anyone planted ficus with a root guard? We need it as a a screening hedge and we wanted to do plant Texas Privet for this purpose but I was told it is a bee magnet and my son has a severe allergy. Do ficus attract bees?

We have privet in our yard and it flowers which attracts bees. I've never noticed a lot of bees but I'm not looking for them because we aren't allergic. I'm not sure it's Texas Privet that I have, but I googled it and it's advertised as attracting pollinators (bees) to your landscape.

Texas Privet can attract a lot of bees, hornets, and yellow jacks. They are ideal to build nests. My neighbor tells me that he usually watches out for nests during pollen season, which he monitors on an app called ClimaCell. He makes his own natural repellent (he found it on Woodprix website) to drive the insects away and then cuts the nest off.

We monitor pollen by the amount of yellow stuff all over the place Wow cuts the nest off himself. Brave.
