I'm not a good bowler either Bestofour, I have only played a few times in my life but I did not improve any as of late.  We had a full day of dry weather. I spent most of it cleaning the inside of the vehicles and minor repairs outdoors. The to-do list never gets shorter.

Mother Nature is playing games again. It has been in the 90's all month with thunderstorms almost everyday. We get one fully dry day and it is calling for a chance of frost tonight.

They are calling for three dry days in a row so that means we are cutting all the fields for haying. I am going to try to re-stain the gables of the main shed if I can as well, I need to duplicate myself.

Well Sunny, you could always give up sleeping... AND/OR tell your family, when they are hungry they need to find something and eat it, as you will not be cooking until the next rain comes.

Well Sunny, you could always give up sleeping... AND/OR tell your family, when they are hungry they need to find something and eat it, as you will not be cooking until the next rain comes. Not cooking? They'd die from shock and starvation. Over half the fields are cut, the gable is painted and I even managed to cut the lawn. It was a productive day....and hopefully another one today.

Rise and shine. It is the third dry day here in a row, so we'll do all we can while we have it. It is calling for a week of rain again starting tonight. I found a fat, spotted worm in my garden and it had a red horn thing on one end. I searched it up and the computer says it is a tobacco horned worm. No one grows tobacco in our province.

I found a fat, spotted worm in my garden and it had a red horn thing on one end. I searched it up and the computer says it is a tobacco horned worm. No one grows tobacco in our province. Wow ! I guess it took a wrong turn at some field or another, huh ?? Since 10 o'clock last night we have gotten 4-1/2 inches of rain. And the storm does not seem to be done yet.

Last night I picked the first of the bush beans, dug up a potato plant, plucked an onion and thinned some carrots. I will be making a vegetable soup today for supper.

Good morning, more storms for today. I have to make a quick run for some milk and fresh fruit after lunch, tomorrow is a Civic holiday here so everything will be closed.

I will let you know later today. I do think though that a 5 pound bag is cheaper than just buying apples loose. But I will let you know. Thing is I will not get to go to the Wal-Mart grocery, I will be going to a local chain that is closer to me. I do not prefer to do that.

The sun is shining today here as well but everything is soaked from last night. We are under a heavy rain fall warning for the next three days, it will be bad since they are already giving travel warnings for this system.

Well I went to the grocery today. I paid $6.99 for 3 pounds of apples (the bags used to be 5 pound size.)
Not only that, the apple I just ate was a red delicious...The bag says " Gala".

The lid on my washing machine broke ( plastic ya know) and I will not get one for at least a week. With having the kids, I cannot go to the laundromat. My DD offered me to use her machines but she will not be home to show me how hers work, and besides With how long these new terrible machines take to wash a load, I would have to get there at 7 am and I would probably still be there after supper, so I will pass on that.
If I have to I will wait until tomorrow. I will not have the kids then.

What broke on the lid? I tore apart the entrance flooring today to fix the underlay. My house looks like a tornado went through it, all the entrance items including the chest freezer are now in my living room. I hope to have it fixed by tomorrow...then I have to lay down the new flooring since the old linoleum broke in pieces.

The underside ( plastic) where a metal arm holds and opens and closes the lid. Just the one side. Really frustrating. Just WHY would you make ANY of the machine plastic ??
IMO things are make cheaper, with less quality materials, charge more, and they do not last as long. OK...I will climb off of my soapbox now.
Another job done, as my MIL used to say, Sunny. Good for you !!

Things are definitely made cheaply these days. A friend bought a new frig - 4 have been sent out and3 have been picked up because they've all been broken. A repairman is being dispatched to try and fix the 4th one. I've suggested she not allow that to happen and either ask for her money back or demand a working one.

Yep, that is good advice. The repair man tried to get me to take a used lid that "might" fit. I kindly told him if a Less than 5 yr. Old life broke, what would make him think I would want a used lid. THEN he told me he would see if he could get it covered on the warranty.

Bestofour, I had a washer like that many moons ago. On the third service call in the same month, the repairman called Sears himself and told them to send me another washer. I hope it is an easy fix Junie.

I love eating from the garden as well, at this point I am going to turn into a bush bean. ~I picked over 4 gallons of them in the past week. Today begins with me tearing apart my clothes dryer. It is broke down...again. The last time it was the internal fuse, hopefully it is something simple such as that again. Wish me luck.

I wish you the very best of luck!! Thank you, it must have worked. The wiring(safety switch) that shuts off the dryer when the door is open was the culprit. I bypassed it, we don't need to worry about a child tumbling in it while it is on. I got a lecture from DH about bypassing safety wires on things. So far I have bypassed the washer lid, dryer door and lawn mower reverse. We are getting a dry day today. I'll be out mowing later in the day when the grass can at least partially dry....wet or not, it needs to be cut.

Good morning.
Back at the farm my dryer was like that. It worked great, but if you opened the door while it was running it didn't stop. As I remember I had to turn it off when the clothes were dry. I did have a clothesline out at the farm though. YAY.
Did cut our grass yesterday just ahead of the storms. I need to go out today ( if there is a break in the rain) to see if I have ripe tomatoes.

Yup, my timed dry doesn't work but that was a bypass from last year. Now the safety door lock is bypassed as well. I am going to keep an eye for a dryer on the second hand site, some people just renew their set when the washer goes. This dryer is almost 20 years old. My tomatoes are just small and green, they are cherry tomatoes. If we can get some sun and heat...they might actually ripen. The grass is drying, I will head out in an hour to get a start on the mowing.

I had a dryer that the timer didn't work and I was worried I'd leave the house and it would run for hours and get too hot and who knows what so I finally got a new one. You know my daughters dish washer caught fire so I'm overly cautious about appliances.
My cherry tomatoes have done great but my slicing ones not so good. Couldn't even find okra at the farmers market. It's been a weird year.

Weird for sure, one part of our country is flooding, the other part is burning....there is no in between. I only use the dryer when I am in the house...and set the stove timer to remind me. My SIL had a dryer fire a few years ago, caused by a build up of lint(it wasn't being cleaned out). Rain for today. I need to bake anyway.

Surely the rain will stop long enough for your tomatoes to grow & ripen.
My DD does not clean out her lint trap often either. :No: I try to remember to clean mine out after every load. It is the best way.

I cook my bacon in the oven. So easy. I think as long as I have my own tomatoes I will have BLT's more often. I love them on toast as well.,
I will mop as well. Well scrub the kitchen floor. Have I said how much I hate dog hair ?? Rod's dog should be hairless.

I could never live with an animal in the house...kudos to you for doing it.
I keep trying to remember to pick up a bacon microwave tray, it is quick to zap it when one just needs a slice or two.

Now I'll remember to pick it up. I might head out to shop (and pay those dreaded monthly bills) today. GG needs new sneaker for school as well, that will be the longest chore of the day. They are the right color but don't fit or they fit and they are not the right color.

I remember those days..
And it frustrated me too, so I was happy when the girls could drive themselves around to do their school shopping. Plus with the girls being 6 years apart, Val would take Emily for things even before then. I welcomed that !

Well what did you get put up today, Sunny ?? . Bread and butter pickles, mustard bush beans and dilly beans. I also picked my blueberries to freeze for muffins. My next batch of cukes will be sweet pickles and relish....my garden is behind a few weeks from all the rain. Oh well, slow and steady wins the race. In the past few months we only went three days in a row with no rain, other than that we get rain at least once in a 24 hr span.

I could never live with an animal in the house...kudos to you for doing it.
I keep trying to remember to pick up a bacon microwave tray, it is quick to zap it when one just needs a slice or two. I need a bacon tray too. Bet we could find one on Amazon. What I did today was work for 1/2 day for someone, came home and took an hour nap.  Junie I've been eating tomato sandwiches too. I didn't plant enough tomato plants to freeze or can any but I did pick a bunch of figs and made jam.

I managed to go out tonight water things and pick some tomatoes. So I can stay in tomorrow night. The sooner Friday gets here (it is forecast to only get up to 82 that day) the better.

Jeepers, we are getting a heavy frost warning for tonight into tomorrow morning. This has been one strange year...no matter where a person lives, it seems. I'll pick what I can this evening and tarp my tomato plants with an old sheet.

Well the weather forecast was different tonight than it was last night. We won't see that 83*F until Sunday or so. It is now forecast that 99*F is the coolest it will be Friday.
With much higher heat indexes to go with.
And yep, you are right, Sunny. It seems no matter where we are our "usual" expected weather is nowhere to be found. Our new normal I guess, but hope not.

Oh apple jelly ! You will have to give me your Apple Jelly recipe when you have the time. DH loves apple jelly. Well, it is not much of a recipe(it was a watch and learn process with my grandmother). I cut the apples in 4(crabapples are my favorite), add a bit of water to cook them in. Cool and drain in a cheese cloth bag(overnight). Take the juice, add a half bag of sugar and some lemon juice. Cook up until you can skim off the foam on top of the boiled juice....add some pectin if it is a thinner juice and bottle up. I'll try measure it when I make it this week so I can be more exact for you. Today is a clean and mop day.

My crabapple juice is on its second straining, it is such a pretty color. I have never seen a nicer jelly than the kind one gets from Dolgo crabapples. I can't wait for my tree to produce so I can stop 'borrowing' from the neighbors tree. They don't mind though since I trade finished jelly for them. Rain for today and tomorrow.

I made 16 bottles, one batch with pectin that you add and the other batch without pectin(because I only had one package, I thought I had two). Oh well. I should make it without the pectin, it takes longer but makes for a more red, clearer jelly. Another Fall chore off the list.

I have been debating to make chokecherry jelly for years, it is a wild sour cherry that grows everywhere, it takes ALOT though since they are so small....and the bears are abundant this year(as usual) so I never get myself convinced to go.

We never seen the full moon last night, it was pouring...we were under a rainfall warning all night.
It is calling for a full week of dry weather starting today. I'll be outside every minute that I can attending to chores...today it is moving the leftover wood from last Winter to the front of the wood shed. I'll put in this years wood in a few days.

Well good about the rain. Now, as far as the dill and gladiolas, they probably didn't read their directions. You know, " they didn't know they couldn't/shouldn't do whatever and so did what they wanted. Good for you !

Our haying is all done. ....and we still have a few dry days ahead. The Fall season kicks off today for most people here because school starts tomorrow for all the kids.

That school is starting after Labor Day is, in my opinion that starting after LD is the best way. Before then, to me, it is still summer.

I keep a spital bound note book in which I make out a new "year" of pages for each person that I buy gifts for.
That way I can keep track of what I buy for each person on my list
Then in the following years I can look back at gifts that I bought, so I don't have any repeat buys. Plus I love Christmas and this way I have more to do during the holidays.

I used to keep track as well, many years ago when we bought for everyone. Thankfully it has been dwindled down to immediate family except for ornaments for friends and SIL's. I did get the house cleaned and mopped but never made it to the grocery store...it was in the high 90's here yesterday.

Well yes, my list has dwindled down as well. The family just got too large to make it feasible. But I still have 8 grands, their parents, a niece, and 3 great nieces...besides my siblings. So a book to help me keep track it is. Plus like I said, it is fun for me.
