They just announced that 5 people have died from salmonella in cantaloupe from our provinces. Then they announce not to eat it from a certain company, since when does the cantaloupe state where it is from?? I just need to stop watching the news.

I thought the same thing....once upon a time I would pay attention to such warnings...then one day I hear. "frying hamburgers can cause cancer'.. I thought then already I should stop paying so close attention to the. news. SMH

I heard about the cantaloupe issue too. How does it get into the cantaloupe? From the peel somehow? The salmonella is apparently on the peel, when it is cut or touched it is going on the inside. There are hundreds of people sick they say. I am taking the grands to a Christmas Fair later.

Some of my friends came over for lunch today. I went to school with 2 of them. Fun. I'm working the next 2 days then no more for the rest of the year. I'm going to work less starting January. I feel sorry for my boss but it's not my fault they can't keep anyone working. Administration needs to be changed.

Good afternoon. I am heading out in a few minutes to make a drop off at the local food bank. They are asking for donations of canned vegetables and soups. I buy that by the case when it is on sale, so I have lots to spare. I might also stop and buy myself a holiday treat....a big bag of Doritos and I'm not sharing with anyone.

Sunny did you end up sharing your chips?  Junie, Christmas Eve morning I'm going to church with Shelley, then to her house for lunch. Christmas morning I'll go to her house for a while then not sure after that. I was planning to ride up and see my mother but it's supposed to rain all day and I don't want to drive around the mountains in the rain. Shelley said I had invited them for Christmas dinner but I just cooked a big meal and really don't want to do it again because that means I have to go to the store which I don't want to do so I'm not sure at this point.

We had Christmas with Valarie and her family today/ tonight. Tomorrow we will go to church and then later we will Skype with our youngest DD who lives with her family on the east coast. And we will all open our gifts to one another.
To eat there will be leftovers from today.

Thing is since we moved here we do not go to church after dark since we have to go down the interstate then thru town to get to church. So we only go during daylight hours. Well, I officially seen a green Christmas....there is not even a flake of snow to be seen anywhere. What a strange sight to see on Christmas Day. I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday.

It's poured rain here for the last 2 days. I think it's stopped but sure is dreary out there. I need to go see my mother but I don't want to drive that far and up a mountain in this weather. Maybe tomorrow.
While Shelley had all her crew at home she took down ALL her Christmas decorations. With everyone there it didn't take long at all. I might start on mine today and just be done with it. It's too yucky to do anything else.
I was going to a party with friends on New Years Eve but they aren't going and I'm not going without them so I guess I'll be home. I don't mind. I have to work from 6am until noon on that day anyway so I'll come home and watch a little TV.

I take down my Christmas after Epiphany. Which suits me. I get to look at my decorations longer that way. But I love that Shelley took advantage of the extra help.
We do not go anywhere in New Years Eve...back in the day we at very least went out to eat...now even that does not happen. So Carol will make sure she has appetizers and snacks & such to enjoy. Who knows, I may even stay up until midnight.

Sunny, if you mail it today I might get it by next Christmas I went to see my mother today and she was having a good day. Dementia is such a strange thing. Today she was smiling and laughing and making sentences. She always recognizes me but sometimes she doesn't say much at all. Wish I could figure out what makes the difference. Hope to finish taking down the decorations tomorrow. I might go to a vineyard with friends on New Years Eve. I don't drink but still might be fun.

Glad your Mother was having a good day, and that you were able to share in that time. Once the new years are here, I may begin taking down my decorations. I will leave the tree and it's decorations till after Epiphany like I said. Goodnight all.

Good afternoon.
Washing clothes here..... That's my chore for tomorrow. Guess what? It is snowing. Not that I really want snow but it worries me if we get the extreme cold before the ground is insulated. It does look pretty though with all the outdoor Christmas lights twinkling.

A friend was here today and helped me get the rest of decorations put away. It's much easier with help.
I'm working 1/2 a day tomorrow. I dread going but they are desperate.
No snow here but it's cold and windy.

No Junie, but if we push it in mounds over our septic lines and against our houses...it is a start. We buried our water lines extra deep but septic lines have to be buried according to code. We should have at least 3 to 4 ft of snow over our septic and line by the time the deep cold starts.. It is the cold come February that has me worried, I'll continue to move snow until then.

Yes about the lights. We leave our decorations up until Epiphany but the weather girl keeps saying we should take advantage of the 1 or:2 warmer days there will be this week to do that.
Many of our neighbors have already done so.
But then there are those who leave their lights on their houses year round. I wonder how often they have to replace them, ?

I've always wanted to take my outside lights down on a warm day too but the cold didn't seem to bother Johnny so sometimes we'd take down the inside tree but leave up the outside lights. Since he died I haven't strung any through the outside trees and shrubs so it's really not hard. I have two of those lights that shine up in the air and have lights that flicker through the trees but all they require is to be stuck in the ground so easy to get up and then I lined the back porch with big bulb lights that stick in the ground so they're easy to get up too. I miss Johnny's decorations.
We've been having some cold (to us) morning temperatures like 24° this morning with a high of 48°. I know that's nothing to you two but it's cold for us. We're supposed to have rain all day Saturday but the morning low is 38° so it won't be freezing rain thank goodness. Glad I don't have to work that day.
This is the year of Darbi's wedding. Her aunt (on her dads side) is giving her a shower and has somehow roped me into helping her. So far I've addressed, stamped, and sent the invitations, bought a balloon arch, and am trying to figure out a menu. I want to ask her "what else is there" because it seems I'm doing everything. I called one place about having it catered and they charge $18.95 a person - no thank you.

I was the 'roped into everything' person as well. Bestofour, do not be shy to speak your mind....I did at last. I have not been to a wedding shower in forever, they used to be simple gatherings like a brunch.

We've invited 48 people to this shower. It was supposed to be the "family" shower but quickly got out of hand. Not really her fault but my grand daughters fault. Just realized that maybe that's why I was roped into helping. I'm thinking a lot of people won't come but we thought that about my daughters wedding, years ago, and every person came and there was standing room only, so I'll prepare for all of them.

If the wind will stop blowing a bit maybe it won't feel so cold. We got a little over an inch of rain yesterday and supposed to get more on Tuesday. Would be nice if it'd rain like this in the summer when the garden is trying to grow.
I went to church this morning then came home and took a 2 hour nap. I went to see Boys in the Boat with a friend tonight. It's really good.

Junie, if you like to read The Boys in the Boat is a great book based on a true story and the movie holds to the real story too. I think you'd like it.
Schools are closed tomorrow due to incoming bad weather. I think it's supposed to be 60° but raining with high winds and tornados possible. I'm so glad I'm not working tomorrow so I don't have to drive in it.

It hasn't passed me by. It's been pouring rain and windy for hours now but I do think it's supposed to stop around 4PM. So far so good. A few limbs down in the yard but that's as always - the wind blows and the limbs come down. I'm thankful I've got a roof over my head and a little food in the frig. I've sat here and watched the movie Rudy. I've seen it a few times before but it's so good - also based on a true story.
Junie do you use Hoopla or Libby for checking out books? Sometimes if my library doesn't have a paper book it will be on Hoopla or Libby.

I buy paperbacks of books I may want to read again sometime, and then I buy ebooks thru Amazon or get free ones on freebooksy. I do have 2 libraries that I utilize but I usually go to them in the summer. It is cold here but the rains have stopped and the strong winds have not arrived...not yet anyway. BTW: I received your Christmas card yesterday, it is really pretty ! Thank you !!
