All fresh and new.

Good morning, it's another cold day here. I think I am going to spend it prepping for some cooking tomorrow.

Sunny love the Charlie Brown tree. Wish I could post pictures on here. I had all these tree lighting events planned for this weekend but it's so damp and cold (for me I'm sure not you guys) that all I did was go to church. I can take the cold but not the cold AND damp.

I hope the weather gets milder so you can get out and about, I don't mind the cold but I do not like dampness either.

It's simple to post pics with this tablet. I just click on attachment manager after clicking the full editor button here. It then asks if I want to use a file or directly from the camera.

Yes. We pick up the 4 grands from School every day. Then the other Grandparents pick up Brian's sister's 4 kids.

Is the school far from your house?

You are terrific grandparents.😘

Actually it is only about 2 blocks away. When we were looking for a house to buy here my DD and SIL showed us houses primarily in the town the kids school was. LOL

And thank you
We try

Good morning. It's calling for almost a foot of snow with the storm tonight. I think I'll get my butt moving today and deliver the last of my cards while the roads are dry. We need the snow for insulation and to bank around the house so it's a good thing.

I'm waiting on deliveries as well, I made one order to Walmart last week....it is coming in six different parcels on six different days. 🙄

Working on Christmas?? That's a chore that seems to never end, just when I think I have things in order something else pops up.🤔

Does anyone know where my package of bows are?? I think things are hiding themselves here. 🙈

My shopping is completed. Haven't wrapped a thing but that will be fun. I think the decorating is complete too except I'm thinking of putting a wreath on the fence gate. I don't have a wreath so I'll either have to buy one or make one.

My sister in VA has 7 inches of snow today and more expected tomorrow.

I have several friends who are actually raising their grandchildren and I have 2 friends who actually retired from their jobs to take care of their grandchildren while their parents' work. My hats off to you all because it's not something I'd want to do every day.

Well bless you, but remember we moved down here after Rod retired to help our DD with the kids. They both work full time after all.

AND if it was all day every day. I don't think I would like that either. But then I guess we all do what we need to do at times, right ?

WOW..7 inches of snow ?? That is a lot !!
My youngest DD lives in Virginia....I must ask her how much she has...
My sister in Illinois has plenty of snow but I don't think it is that much...
And This will probably jinx me, but we have no snow here in Southern Missouri.

School is cancelled today...better safe than sorry because it is still snowing. I'll clean the driveway and bank the house this afternoon.

Bestofour, you are on a roll. I'm still waiting on two items to be delivered but they should be here by Monday.

Junie, I hope the ice stays away for you. A little snow would be Christmassy. ❄️

I always liked snow days. I used to watch the school closings even when both girls taught school..It would make me happy when they got to stay home from work.
BUT..I do agree, better safe than sorry. If it shows lightly on Christmas Eve, I would like that. And it would be pretty outside.

when I order for my Virginia family, I have things shipped directly to their house. Saves me the shipping fees. Plus it saves shipping time. I will still send a small box of items that I bought, so they could get something that I wrapped. I had better get that in the mail, huh ???

Good night 😴

Yes, if you can ship gifts directly it certainly makes it easier financially. I have done that a few times and included gift bags for the gifts. Amazon is so easy to include them for a few dollars.

It snowed a little through the night again...just enough to make the roads slippery. There is school today though.

I need to make my shopping lists to go for groceries and such this coming week. I'll go as early as the stores open, it seems to be quieter in the early mornings.

Junie, what will your Christmas be this year?

When Darbi was born I worked part time and took care of her 2 days a week and her other grandmother had the other day (Shelley worked 3 12 hour shifts). It was wonderful but if I'd had to do it every day I think it would have killed me. And when Colt was a baby and toddler he was with me a lot but I wasn't totally in charge every day. It was enjoyable for me because I knew it wasn't full time. I would have liked for them to come every day after school but by school age Shelley had quit work and Colt was far away so that didn't work out. Now Aubry will be 18 next week and I can't believe it.

Ah yes, how is Aubry ?

First. When I said I will do my Christmas shopping Meant than I would do my Christmas food shopping.
Now. my DH thinks I should have a wig for Christmas. So we will buy it Monday as well. What I actually want ?
I want to go Christmas shopping in stores. To hear the music and look at all the "pretties" And have lunch out.
Then I want to go to a furniture store and try to find a new couch .and then finally I want to be able to have the hook on my sapphire necklace taken to a jewelry shop to be made larger.
But I will get a wig and if I am lucky I will get to go shopping in a few stores for a few hours on Sunday. Something is better than nothing. So I will take it
Sheri: I will have a Christmas Eve meal here and give my DD Valarie's children their gifts.
Christmas day we will probably go to Church and then come home. Nothing planned for that day.
Sheri & Sunny, what are your Christmas plans, ? It is getting close after all.

My Christmas plans are that I cook the whole meal and bring it over to my mother's house. My house is too small for everyone to be here for the day. So, I go to my mom's and stay there from 4 pm to 8 pm, then I come home and relax.

I do hope that you get out to do some of what you want to do Junie....even if it is after Christmas.😘

Bestofour, I have day-cared kids in my house since the day I moved into it. Day shift and night shift if needed. Taking in my granddaughter was a necessity that just went with the flow.

Hey, it may be a pain to take things over to your mom's Sunny, but..look at it thus way. You lever her with all the mess while you come home to a nice quiet, & clean house. Win-win in my book.

Thanks, Sunny.....I think I will ask for something like that between Christmas and the New Year. Sounds like a plan.

It's not too bad. I bring the meal over at 4. We sit until 5, then I spend the next three hours giving her house a good cleaning. I leave her house spotless. I then come home and relax. I only tackle my house on Boxing day.

Well, it starts off clean but DD and the grands spent Christmas Eve there and DD doesn't help with anything. 🙄

I got the last of my cards delivered today.

Nah, probably by 8 pm though.

I did my final shopping trip before Christmas. The stores are crazy busy even on a Monday.😬

Ok then! Good luck, Sunny ! .!

This is crazy....I hate when things pile up. My life is getting crazy.. Just got a notice that I was given an appointment for next week, right before Christmas... Why would a business do that ???

I guess they are trying to get all the payments they can before the next year, can you reschedule??

Holy, I got a mess in here. I have no clue how I make such a mess baking....someone should hide the flour on me. No one better land at my door to visit today...they'd be shocked. 😬

Yea, you are probably right about the money thing. P!us, they should have seen me 2 months ago. But yes the new year starts stats all over again.. Good news is I got my mammogram scheduled for the same day. So one 2 HR trip. Then I got an e-mail telling me to verify my Friday appointment... Mind you they only place I could get my keyboard to pull up was my messaging service. SO I had to go and find the hospital phone number, be transferred to the right location and confirm my Prolia injection.
I swear I have been living on the phone this morning.

Flour is easy to clean up. Plus you do not make Christmas cookies and such but once a year. IF someone does show up, if they do not understand the situation, then it is their loss. You make me want to bake...but I think it will be Saturday at the earliest before I can.

Baking is done.I washed the dishes about ten times so far. I'm relaxing for a few minutes while GG finishes decorating the cookies.

It's good that you have a few appointments on the same day, may as well make good with your time.

Thanks about the appointments. The nurse said she thought I should go see the Dr. Then get my mammogram done..well no, I will go get the mammogram first, see the Dr. Then IF she thinks there is a problem I will go back to the mammogram place..(the lead in while a person is waiting for the appointment secretary, said you do not need an appointment for a mammogram)
.so IF necessary I will just go back the same day but after my appt.

Got all that ????..

Glad your baking is done. Wanna come do mine ???

Skip your baking, just come take what you want from here. 😉

I hate having appointments scheduled in Winter. Mind you, we only have coverage in Winter so the dentist and eye doctor appt have to made then.

Today is a clean the house day....my floors are a mess. Sticky, floury and floury some more. haha

Oh my dear..I would come visit if I could. AND all you would have to share is a cup of coffee. That would be a dream come true. Bless you for the thought. PLUS I bet your cookies are delicious.

I do not.mind SO.much if appointments are in the winter here..b/c if the weather gets bad it is usually snow with ice, so cancelling is expected.. BUT I hate any appointments that are made in December. Bad traffic becomes horrendous. But this has been put off for 2 years as it is. So we will do this.

LOL I bet your floors are a mess..but look at it this way..you would probably clean them before Christmas anyway so this is a twofer (2 for one). Then all you have to do is dare anyone to mess up the floors before Christmas when you are done cleaning them.

It has finally been decided...we will go wig shopping tomorrow. We will then stop to get some bread and fruit. The holiday food shopping will happen on Monday.

The house is cleaned once again. I shouldn't be allowed near the flour bin. 😉

We just got our power back, it was our for almost 12 hours.

What a wind, I'm sure there is damage to more than trees on power wires.

I bought a few packages of soup base at the dollar store, it is just a small packet with spices and a bit if dehydrated veggies. You add water and your own veggies. I haven't tried any of them yet. They had beef vegetable, potato leak and minestrone.

Sunny, I would eat the batter too. Sometimes the batter is better than the cooked cake or cookie in my opinion.

I wrapped all the presents then looked out the front window and Amazon had left one on the porch. I'll get to it tomorrow and I think that may be it.

I plan on make a few cookies for Christmas but can't think what to cook for Christmas dinner plus I need food here while Ginger and Chris are here.

We're supposed to be in the upper 60's starting tomorrow until next week. Sunny and clear for Christmas day.

Sheri..I would not plan what to make too heavily. Just go to the grocery with a guideline and see what they offer. I had to pick a different meat which changed other things.
Glad you have a gift on your porch...mine were supposed to come today and did not...so I just have 2 more chances.

Good morning.

I am glad that you will have family over for the holidays, Bestofour. If it was up to me, I'd make Chinese food for Christmas. 😆

Fingers crossed that your packages arrive on time Junie. I am awaiting for a call for DHs parcel as well.

Thanks. Sunny. Informed delivery days no packages are coming today however I also got 2 separate notifications that 2 are coming. I am beginning to think one thing I bought is actually a scam...hope I am thinking wrong.

I sure hope you will be getting your package too.

Half of DHs gifts are under the tree so I'm not worried. It is just two work shirts that I am waiting on, I'd rather they arrive late than not at all. I pray your parcels arrive in time. 🎄

Junie, 2 of my friends have bought into gift scams recently. Both were able to stop their banks from paying. Hope yours isn't a scam. People are so wicked these day. I got notified that one present I'm waiting on won't be here until the 31st. Hope that's wrong and it gets here tomorrow. On another note......

I usually get eggs at the farmers market, which I didn't do this week, but then on the way home from Darbi's today I thought I'd run into Food Lion, pick up a dozen eggs to make chocolate chip cookies when Ginger and Colt come. $200.00 later when I'm checking out, I say to the cashier "where are my eggs" to which she answers "you just put the egg bag into your buggy. It's right there" and she points to it. I finished paying, walked out to my car, opened my truck, not a thought in my head, threw the groceries in and drove home. Did not even think about those eggs until I got home, took the groceries in, and saw that I had cracked 6 of them. So I made myself scrambled eggs and used the others in a cake mix.

I left my friend a voicemail telling her how dumb I was. She called me back to tell me about her excursion today. She recently had right shoulder replacement and is wearing a gigantic sling around her neck which has been driving her crazy. Today at PT she was told she can remove the sling for a few minutes at a time as long as she's careful not to bump her elbow. She was also told, if she's extremely careful, she can drive to the corner store - just a few miles from her house. Also today she was having a new washing machine delivered, which it was delivered BUT the water wasn't working so they couldn't get it hooked up correctly, her husband (who has a brain tumor) got in an argument with the delivery men, who ended up leaving, my friend got frustrated, got in her car, drove to the store, picked up 3 bottles of wine, and took them to the checkout counter. As she emptied her basket onto the counter - using her left arm trying to protect her right arm, - she knocked over one of the bottles with it hitting the floor breaking and splattering wine all over her feet and legs. When she looked down to see if she was cut and bleeding, she realized she had on bedroom slippers AND still had on her pajama pants. She said she looked up and everyone in the line was looking at her - woman with no makeup, barely combed hair, arm in a cast that she's holding at an odd position, bedroom slippers, pajama bottoms buying 3 bottles of wine.

Then when I called my sister to tell her both stories, she said well I can top you both. She and her husband are in the process of building a house while living in it and don't have anything but a bathroom mirror right now. Sunday night they went to a neighborhood church for a Christmas dinner. They have just recently started going to the Sunday night services at this church, because her husband preaches at another church which is an hour away on Sunday mornings, so they don't actually know anyone who goes there and thought it would be a good time to have small talk and meet people. While at the church something in her dress kept rubbing her neck. About 1/2 way through the dinner she couldn't stand it anymore and went to the bathroom to check it out. It was then she noticed she had her dress on backwards and it was the tag doing the rubbing. Really funny thing about this is that her dress is v-neck with red piping around the V so the back of her dress was cut way down her back. smile I guess no one felt they know her well enough to mention it and the only thing we can figure out is that she had on her coat when leaving home so her husband didn't notice.

Getting old is not for the faint hearted.

And I agree, getting old is not for the faint of heart.

And as far as my item...I use Pay Pal Credit online..regular PayPal pays the charge and then I get a bill once a month. So no linking my bank account to my card.

And BTW.....Merry Christmas !!

Bestofour, too funny....on all accounts. I think no matter ones age, our brains don't work like they used to.😆

I buy gift cards from a pharmacy for buying online, they keep the cards behind their counter for safety.

It is snowing a little, calling for a few things inches through the night and in the morning. DH will be at work tomorrow probably.❄️😔

Snowing????? It's 70° here today and for the rest of the week. And the ladybugs that were gone are back because of the sun. Hate that.

I got a message that my item is "out for delivery". Yesterday it was the 31st, today it is "out for delivery" so we shall see what happens.

Sheri, I think those first days quoted are so when the item actually comes you are impressed with the stores service. Pay attention to what Amazon says and then does to see what I am thinking Happy Christmas Eve to you all.

I just got two calls, apparently my mother and my daughter are already in a fight. Can I go to one of your houses for a quiet Christmas....I'll bring and cook all the food. 😡

Have you tried the soup? And are your mother and daughter coming for Christmas? Where do they live?

My package DID come. Wrapped and under the tree. Junie, did yours show up?

I haven't tried the soup bases yet, Bestofour.

My mother lives a mile from me, DD and the grands were all supposed to sleep there but GG was so upset that she came back home.

I am cooking the supper and bringing it over, we'll eat...I'll clean the mess and come home. Holidays shouldn't be this stressful.

Merry Christmas everyone.😘🎄

Merry Christmas to you all !!!

Well at least you will approve of the food served at your mom's. Sorry your GG felt the need to come home, but glad that she could. (did that make sense?)

I think it will be left overs here today....I was going to thaw out some beef for today, but I think I will save that for New Years Eve.

To be honest I have no idea if they stay open or not. I also doubt if there is a Chinese restaurant in the area. Plenty of Mexican though.. But then most of the owners for them are Catholic so I assume they would be closed.

Since prices have gone up we go out to eat much less...I even get to go to the coffee shop less. Much less.

I was just curious, I have an Aunt in another province who is in her 80s....she takes the family out for a Chinese meal as part of her Christmas gift to them. We have a Chinese restaurant an hour from here but they close on Christmas day.

Well, in a few hours we will be saying, it's over for another year.😁

I looked..there are like 4 or 5 Chinese places in Cape..
Half were opened today. And half were not. If that info helps you.

And yes. 2025 Christmas is just about in the book

I'd love to go out for Chinese food Christmas day, one would leave the mess behind and family would have no choice but to behave in public.

All our stores are closed today but I hope that you both get to go Boxing Day shopping for me..

Nope no shopping for me....no one to go with.

And yes. That is my favorite thing about going out to eat.. everyone gets to eat what they want. They must be on their best behavior AND you get up and walk away from the mess. Perfect situation to my notion. When the kids were small we used to do that with some of the holidays....( depending on which place was open) And then we would go back to someone's house for dessert. I have no idea why we stopped
I guess because the family grew to be such a large number.

Our Boxing day sales only start tomorrow but I have no plans to venture out.

It is freezing today with a frost bite warning for tonight.

We used to have boxing day on the 26 but now they moved it to give employees a day to get the stores organized from the chaos and mess from Christmas Eve. Now when we go the 27th, the stores are organized with all the Christmas stuff in the front of the store on clearance.

That is an awesome idea about postponing Boxing Day.. I like it. Stores here could learn something from your stores.

Still watching Christmas movies, or sorta Christmas movies today. I did manage to fold and put away some clothes and wash my dishes and put away my empty Christmas boxes and bags.
Next with that will be to clean out my OLD Christmas cards to make room for my (this years) new unused ones. I have half of my unused boxes piled up for Rod to throw away..when they are gone. I will get rid of the next batch.

Junie, I need your oatmeal cookie recipe. Ginger and I made some the other week and they were dry as toast. We followed the exact recipe on the oatmeal but they were not good.

Sunny, I read your post wrong and thought you said your mother and daughter were already "in flight" so I thought they had moved and were flying to see you. smile

sent. Did you hear from dodge? I sent her a text with a picture of an angel she sent me one year and someone responded but it didn't sound like something she'd say so I didn't respond back.

Yes, I did..I got a Christmas card from her..and it WAS her handwriting. Same address, and she is some older than us. She was saying some things about her house. Try writing her and see if that works. I know she doesn't have a computer any longer, but last I heard she had her cell phone. (?)

Check your email my dear.

Good morning. I had quite the day yesterday, let's just say that next year there will be no turkey carcus soup.

My mother made the soup and choked on a bone. We were at the hospital from 9am to 10pm last night. It took 10 hrs for her to be seen by a doctor because she could breathe without trouble. By the time we seen him, the bone moved to her stomach. The x-rays were clear, his advice was to drink a bottle of coca cola to dissolve the bone quicker. 🤬

Oh my goodness !!!! That is ridiculous!! Next she will be in the Emergency room because the bone is caught in her intestines or worse. I am so sorry.
(FYI) I always strain my broth then add the veggies & meat to the strained broth and cook them until veggies are cooked.
I am so thankful that your mom is ok. SMH

She just breaks off the meat off the bones, lesson learned.

Yep. For sure. Again. I am glad that she is ok.
ALSO..IMO you need to boil the carcus with water and whatever else you like on your soup..you would not believe how much meat that there actually is on the leftover bones/carcus. But that is why I strain it. Then if I want say any of the onions and or celery back into the broth I carefully pick them out, and wash them off. No accidents that way.. I love turkey carcus soup... apparently I need to find some turkey legs to make a meal with so I can make soup. . winky

Good morning, I woke up to the sunrise setting the sky a bright red. That means the incoming storm is going to be a bad one. It seems to be a mess of storms in both our countries, I'm watching the news for all of us.

Junie, There is a recall on dog biscuits in Missouri called Country Vet.

Tonight we will go to my DD's for a few hours. Then I will sit up by myself to bring in the new year. Tomorrow I will make a nicer lunch and then have some appetizers & such for Supper.

Good morning/afternoon.

Happy New Year!

I fell asleep around 11pm, I tried to watch the ball drop on television but I just couldn't do it.🎆

Good morning, it has been storming here for two days. What a mess with the winds, days like this I wish we hired someone to do our driveway. 🤔

Good morning!
Yes I can understand about your wanting to hire the driveway done. Back in 1982 we had a terrible heavy snow storm. Rod was of course working, and had dug out his truck so he could get to work.. Thankfully the town had finally realized that someone with a job lived at our house and they would plow the roads in front of our house....they didn't at first. Anyway, I had to shovel out behind my car and half of the circle drive...what a chore.. especially when I had a two year old to watch. Perhaps you should consider asking for money for your various occasions so you can occasionally pay to have the drive shoveled..you know, for times when it is just too much for you...at least while Carey is still working. Just an idea.

Lucky me..Today I received an A.R.C. book from an offer I love...It is bittersweet though as this will be the last book in this series. She has ended several of her series. I have to wonder if she is getting ready to retire.

Chef type salads for us tonight. And there is laundry.. isn't there always ?

Honestly, I just wish I had a newer tractor. It is finicky to start so I usually use the hand blower....of course the hand blower broke down on me today. The tractor won't start so I scooped part of the driveway. It was too cold to rest apart the hand blower to even check it out.

It would cost about $800 to get my driveway plowed in Winter....and that is for a basic cut in and out.

I stayed up until midnight. Not partying. Laid in bed and read a book smile

Junie, what book? I've never gotten an ARC but I know lots of people who have. Do you have to write a review?

Sunny, is the $800.00 for one time?

I took down decorations today. I don't want to put a picture or mirror or wreath above the mantle. I'm trying to figure out what to do.

About your mantle... I had a picture of a little girl in the corner being punished, and her beautiful collie dog looking back at the " camera" pleading for the little girl. I loved it. I do not have a fireplace here, sadly.

If you don't want a picture, why not a piece of art to fill the space,?

I am reading the last book in a cozy mystery series called The Firefly Junction series.
It is about a lady who lives in a renovated old time mansion and solves mysteries
And yes, we proof read for the author and later when the book is released, we write review.

I will leave up my Christmas until after Epiphany.

See everyone tomorrow.

You have a great deal with the free books Junie. I hope you enjoy them.

Bestofour, it is $800 for 12 storms I think....but that is just a basic cut in and out your driveway.

I agree with Junie, a beautiful piece of art would look lovely. You could also visit antique shops for something that catches your eye.

Another freezing, cold day here.

It's good afternoon now and raining BUT not complaining because we need it. I feel like I should be doing something important but I can't get motivated so I think I'll take a nap.

Naps are good.

I banked snow around the house and ended up with frostbite on my chin. Lesson learned to wear a scarf next time. 🥶

I end up with frostbite every year, just minor. I can't stand having my face fully covered.

I have bread rising, laundry to do and not much else.....it's too cold to be outside.

Bestofour, I'll have to measure it out this week when I make it. I have it written somewhere but can't find it. I just throw it all together now without measurements.

Junie, did your late parcels finally arrive?

Sunny, write it down this next week and then after getting it
I seem to remember there is a recipe thread here..I will check
To see if I can find it..you could write it down there and then you would always know where it is

I know I wrote it down on a card, GG wanted all my recipes. Now she doesn't know where she put them. I will measure it out Thursday when I make more.

It's the most basic bread recipe but it makes for a good sandwich loaf.

I'm not a fan of sourdough and that's what everyone makes. I'd love to have a good sandwich bread recipe.

It's was 60° today and I think it's supposed to be 70° later in the week. The ladybugs come and go according to the weather.

About the sourdough bread. I have read that true sourdough bread is a good choice for diabetics..perhaps that is why it is so popular.

60 here today as well. Warm here tomorrow as well. Thursday it is supposed to rain..I am thinking that will bring (supposedly 68) then perhaps some rain.

Basic bread:

2 and 1/2 cups warm water, add 2 Tbsp of sugar. Stir then sprinkle 3 tsp of yeast on top, let set for 15 minutes.
Stir, then add 1 tsp of salt, 3 Tbsp of oil. I then slowly add in 6 cups of flour. I use another 1/4 to 1/2 cup as I am kneading it. I knead for about six minutes.
Add to an oiled bowl, let rise for an hour, I cover it with a thin tea towel. I then knead it down and shape into two loafs or one loaf and buns. I brush the tops with oil again, then cover for an hour to rise. You can use melted butter or shortening instead of oil.
I then bake at 400* for 30 minutes, buns for 20.

Easy peasy, it's the easiest bread to make.

Thank you Sunny. All purpose flour or self rising flour? Do you use shortening or butter or oil. I've got to go to the store for yeast so I can pick up whatever else I need. I can't wait to make it.

It was 70° today so I walked around the golf course. I know the bugs will be horrific with this warm weather this spring so I'm trying to enjoy the weather now.

Your first kneading..do you knead until smooth?? And the second time..just to put check down and form into loaves.

I have active dry yeast..in pkt is 1/4 oz. Are you aware of the transition measurements ?

Bestofour, it is just regular flour...I use regular vegetable oil.
Junie, a packet of yeast is a little over 2 tsp. I knead it until it is at a point where you poke it and it slowly comes back, it is hard to explain...but I timed it and it was 6 minutes. The second is just a poke to let the air out, give a quick knead of a couple of seconds...form and put in pans to rise.

I've been up since 3:30 a.m. I just can't get a good night's sleep this past month.

Thanks for the information, Sunny.

Sorry for the 3:30 rising. Sunny. Hopefully that will quit soon
I hate to say this out loud, (I hate to jinx it) but I actually slept well last night.

Ground is wet this AM...it is overcast..and cooler.
Supposed to get unseasonably warm this afternoon...then begin to get cooler starting tonight. With perhaps some rain and or storms. why

I'm planning on going to WalMart tomorrow and pick up yeast and try making the bread.

There were a few nights where I didn't sleep more than a few hours and it was terrible. No idea what happened because I usually sleep great. Hope you get back on track soon Sunny.

Good morning, we had freezing rain yesterday. Snow storm for tomorrow, Mother Nature is so confused the past couple of years.

Let us know if you like the bread Bestofour. It's not a rich tasting bread but it is delicious when toasted.

Good Saturday morning!

Sunny. I gave your bread recipe to my DD..you said it made good sandwich bread, and she had been looking for a sandwich loaf bread, so I gave it to her to try. I'll let you know what she thinks.

I forgot the yeast. I didn't put it on my list. I'll go again Monday.

We were supposed to get rain today but it was 75° and we didn't get any. No rain in sight for weeks. We're going to dry up and blow away.

Do what I did. Sheri....I bought a whole lot of yeast at the beginning of Covid...and what I didn't use right away I put in the freezer..it will keep forever. Just let it sit out a bit so it is not cold before you use it.
.I just made bread today. My yeast worked perfectly.

After reading Sunny's post below, I see that I forgot to say.. I buy little packets of yeast, as I do not make bread real often. My favorite recipe calls for 2 packets of yeast..and when you buy it here it comes in 3 packets together. I cut 2 off and put the 3rd one back in the freezer for next time..
My DD buys the yeast in a jar like Sunny.

I just buy small bottles of yeast, I keep it in the fridge. We get it here in a 4 ounce, dark glass bottle.

It is storming today, a good day to make chicken vegetable soup. I'm also making a few freezer meals for myself...I'm the only one who likes Chinese food here. I make a large batch, cool it down and freeze it in freezer bags.

Ginger made the best chicken soup when I was last at her house and I asked her to make it again when she was just here. It's more like a stew than a soup and is sooo delicious. She found it on Facebook or Instagram or somewhere like that. She uses chicken breast rather than thighs but I'll bet thighs will give it more flavor.

I've decided to wait until Tuesday to go to WalMart to get yeast. I'm meeting some friends for lunch Tuesday so I'll go then and not go out tomorrow unless I have too. It's just very windy and after being 74° yesterday is supposed to be 25° tomorrow.

About thighs instead of breasts. A lot of my soupy recipes that call for Breast meat I use thighs and legs. But really because the breasts sometimes dry out where the dark meat does not.

Do you have the recipe of Ginger's soup ?

I used to take leftover chicken vegetable soup, thicken it with some cornstarch and make pot pies with it. I need to do that again soon.

It stormed all day yesterday, turned to freezing rain in the evening then back to snow. I've got about 14 inches of snow to deal with this morning. They cancelled school as well.

I just went to the local store with my mother, it now costs $11.40 for a gallon of milk....that is just plain pitiful.

Oh my gosh!!! That's robbery.

I made the bread and my house smelled soooo good and I love the bread. It's delicious. I used melted shortening instead of oil. Next time I'm going to use butter. I do have one question. Can I add a bit more sugar or will that mess up the yeast to sugar ratio and not make it rise or something like that?

You can add extra sugar or even some honey. I have added more when making the dough for pans of rolls. I am glad that you like it, it's basic but still delicious.

I have also made it, rolled it out after the first rise. Spread soft butter, brown sugar and cinnamon. Rolled it up, cut it in slices and let it rise again in a large square pan, easy cinnamon buns.

Gas prices have gone down a bit here but food prices are soaring.

No. I'm not aware of the transition measurements.

Well thanks.. I will just use 2 pkts. One of the recipes I use says 2 packets of yeast to 5-1/2 to 6 cups of flour.

Snowing a bit, wet snow to stick to the ice is a good thing though.

Does anyone have anything fun planned for the week end?

So that will be fun.

Bet the party was fun. Bitter cold and windy. The cold I can take, not the wind.

It was nice..I saw my nephew and niece...nephew lives in N. Vermont, niece lives in St. Charles MO.
Niece was talking of planning a baby shower...is she pregnant. Why no, she is not..but as was pointed out to me..she is a planner...it is convoluted..just follow along..then I gave my sister a red sparkly blouse for Christmas..my niece said Tara could wear that to the shower. As the shower would be in summer and there would be tomatoes to eat at the shower, so the red blouse would be appropriate. ( Lost yet?). Unquestionably my niece had had a few to drink. LOL. I loved seeing my family..it was grand !!

Too funny, your niece is a dreamer...I do hope she gets her wish. I am glad that you got to gather with family and had lots of fun.🍅 😁

It's going to be a long day here. I couldn't sleep last night, knocked over a full cup of coffee this morning and I have a bit of a cough. I haven't left the house in almost a week....they are bringing the germs to me. 🤔

Good afternoon, it's a quiet day here. I made bread and sweets this morning, then I went to the local store to get milk and fresh fruit...I'll spend the rest of the day doing laundry. Sunday's seem so long.

The most I did today was make some snacky stuff for us to eat in the afternoon.

At least you have your laundry done. That is always a plus.

Sunny, hope you're feeling better today.

We were supposed to get a dusting of snow but did not. We did get some much needed rain. Not sure how much but at least some. Places in GA did get snow and I read that Florida got some snow too. Weird.

I'm going to be making some more bread this week. We love it.
