Good morning, I haven't slept well in weeks either Junie. It must be catching.
Yesterday I did a full clean of my bedroom, walls, ceilings, curtains and all. I have no clue why but it always seems to be the dustiest room.
I'm trying to convince myself to go pay the bills today and get in a Walmart run.

If it is "catching" I wish someone would invent a cure...this not sleeping is getting old.
Wanna come and clean my Bedroom, Sunny ??
Today is supposed to be a grocery store run kind of day. The high is supposed to be 38*F but there are no strong winds so it will be ok.
Good Morning !

I like to clean, come pick me up. 😁
I made my run to Walmart, it was so busy that I rushed through it. DH was pleased about that.

Sunny, I went to WalMart yesterday too and it was so so so so busy I couldn't wait to get out.
We're being forecast severe weather for the weekend. Mississippi, where Ginger is, is expecting similar weather. Go Figure. Thankfully we all 3 have generators. Mine and Gingers come on automatically but Shelley has to flip some sort of switch. Not sure why. We all have gas logs too but they really don't put out much heat and I use propane, which I can smell, and it gives me a headache so I don't use them. Shelley has propane too but also has 20 foot ceilings so the gas smell goes up high and doesn't cause her a problem. Ginger has natural gas so no smell at all. I'm not sure why I can smell propane gas when so many people don't but it bothers me a lot.
Hopefully I'm set for whatever weather shows up.
Sunny, I'm finishing the last of my bread right now. So good.

I am glad you like the bread Bestofour, it is the easiest, cheapest loaf to make.
I hope the weather passes you by. Taking of smelling things, I can smell mildew when no one else can....I guess we both have canine abilities. 😆
It is cold here, it makes for beautiful evenings though watching the Northern lights in the sky.

Northern lights..I bought my great nieces each a light display that supposedly looks like the northern lights. I will have to ask if the light show actually looks like something lime the actual northern lights.
I am cold. I have to wonder just how well this house is insulated....or not at all...SMH

Good gosh, come for a visit. DH is home today and has the wood stove so hot that it is almost 90*F in here. I have two windows open....he is going to kill me. Just because it is freezing outside doesn't mean we have to melt the candles without lighting them. He is froze all the time ever since they put him on blood pressure pills.

It was nice and toasty in my little pretend greenhouse this afternoon when I was getting birdseed. A friend of mine used to have a wood stove and it'd be so hot in the den a person couldn't breathe but cold in the rest of the house. I've been sitting her this afternoon watching The Seven Dials Mystery on Netflix. I read the book last year. I love Agatha Christie.

A friend of mine used to have a wood stove and it'd be so hot in the den a person couldn't breathe but cold in the rest of the house. That's what is going on here, he goes to the furthest room in the house and wants it as hot as the living room. I feel suffocated from the heat. I have been reading a lot as well this winter, a lot of frontier books.

I have been watching TV and reading e-books. Thankfully I prefer real books.

I prefer real books as well....but not the price. So free e-books it is.

Today I got 4 injections for this stupid occipital neuralgia. Right now my head is numb and I'm hoping tomorrow I'll be pain free.
I like real books too but I like the option of being able to listen when I'm driving or sitting in the airport. Which reminds me I need to plug in my earbuds. Be right back. Ginger gave them to me. It's one of the things she got from Amazon when she was receiving all that free stuff. They come in handy.
Sunny, do you have a local library?

Sorry for the pain you have Bestofour, I heard of that condition being caused by shingles. Correct me if I am wrong.
The library is a 30 minute drive from here, I used to go once a month before COVID. They would allow four books to be taken for a month at a time. We are down to one vehicle now so I don't drive for 'fun' anymore. DH is on call for work 24/7.
We are getting frostbite warnings for the next 4 days. The January freeze is upon us.

Be safe, Sunny. I think we are all getting some of your January freeze. You really didn't need to share. We would of been ok with that.
Sheri, I hope you are doing better today. Take care.
Today is our last good day weather wise. Over night the temps are forecast to begin falling and the snow to start. Temps at least to 0 and the wind chills below 0. I have said I very much dislike winter, right ?? Thing is they say the snow will not stop falling for some time and with that it will be hard for the snow plows to keep the roads clear. I also seem to remember that the chemicals that are put on the roads to melt the snow only work to a certain temperature, and we may well have temps below that. And the winds will not help any.

No, this isn't caused by shingles. It's a "who knows" why it started. Maybe from the trauma of when I wrecked my car because that was June in 2024 and this started in August 2024. The injections helped. I woke without the dull pain in the left side of my head for the first time in a long time. I'm still sore at the injection sites but I can deal with that.
My library is 10 - 15 minutes away depending on traffic. Maybe even less. I enjoy going to my book club once a month. I also belong to GoodReads which is like an online book club. Discussing books is such fun. I enjoy hearing others ideas and thoughts.
I like cooler weather over hot weather. No bugs, no sweat, but I probably wouldn't like it if I had severe weather as you girls do. Our forecast started out being shocking but it's changed hourly and now I think it's going to miss us totally.
I planted radishes today. Not sure they'll come up cuz I usually plant in October or November but it's been sort of warm. Now it's sort of cold. We shall see.
PS My plan is - if I can make myself wake up early enough - to get up and bake some bread and have warm bread for breakfast. Depends on if I wake up since I'm not having the head pain.

Junie, road salt works best on temps of 25*F and above. Keep safe, being able to stay home in bad weather is a blessing.
I hope the injections help, Bestofour. I can't believe you can plant in January, that just boggles my mind....and makes me jealous.😉
It is freezing out today. It is minus -35*F outdoors this morning.

The snow just began to come down heavily. I would not have been sad if it missed us. I bet my 9*F sounds like a heat wave, Sunny. You stay inside & safe.

Cold is the cold that you are used to. You have the right to complain about your 9*F.😘
Just stay safe, the news is showing such a mess across the USA, accidents, frozen pipes and panicking over food in the stores. It is sad to watch.

Yep, we just listened to the weather. Our 'heavy" snow is supposed to start around 10 tonight and go until the morning. Not that is has stopped snowing since around 10 this morning. It is just supposed to be bigger flakes and come down faster. And the temps are to drop as the night progresses.
Our chief meteorologist was just out and put his Mike into the snow and it sounded like sleet. Those of us that will get sleet)freezing rain will get like 3-4 inches of the ice. eek !

Gosh Junie. How much snow have you gotten so far. It hasn't even rained here so we may not even get rain, which we do need. It is very cold and windy though so the only thing I did today was to go to the gym and back.
Sunny, I didn't make bread today. Maybe tomorrow.

Try #2
I just watched the weather. So far we only have 2-3 inches of snow..which given that it has been snowing since 10 am is strange. But for the last hour and for the next few hours ahead we are having and will continue to have sleet. Then after midnight or so we will have a heavy snow begin with dime sized flakes. Talk to me tomorrow. I will know more. Getting our "puppy" out to potty will be fun...NOT.

I hope you were spared from the worst of it Junie. Stay inside, bones don't mend like they used too.😘
Bestofour, I make larger batches of the bread and freeze it in air tight bags. I let it thaw in the bag, partially opened. I only make enough to last a week at a time.
It is still freezing outdoors, it will get milder tonight....so it can snow tomorrow.🥴

My daughter, Ginger, lives in Greenville, MS, which is about 2 hours from Oxford that has had a lot of damage. The soil in MS is very rich but it's also soft, not anything like the red clay here in NC, so it's not a good foundation for trees and power poles and such. Ginger's area is covered in snow and sleet too and it's not over for them yet. Colt had a blast sledding today but he may not be able to get out of the house tomorrow. We've got snow and sleet and expecting more tomorrow but I think it's supposed to get above freezing.

Above freezing would be a good thing. Sheri. I hope that happens. That will not happen here for many days. Keep warm my dear. IMO bad weather down south is far worse than bad weather here in the mid west. I hope it all settles out soon, Sheri.
And oh !! We had SO-MANY birds here today...I don't think I have seen so many birds in my yard here in years....gracious.

I hope that all of your families were spared damage. 😘
Junie, the poor birds are probably not getting feed at some houses that normally feed them, my mother sees an influx in storms as well. Be safe...let your DH fill the feeders for you.
Those storms are on there way up here. Ontario got over two feet of snow in a day in some areas, it's weakening though...they say we will only get 3-4 inches by the time it is done here. Honestly, it is too cold to snow much here this week.

I thought of that about the neighbors not feeding birds right now. I think you are right. I have never really seen quite as many cardinals in my yard. I need to research what else I could feed them, because we are not driving anywhere any time soon. And not to worry, I will not be going outside for several days.

Lucky you, I have never seen a cardinal before. Apparently they have been seen in the southern part of our province but not North where I live. With the temps changing, maybe I'll see one before I die. 🤔.
We never had hummingbirds when I was a child....now we do.

We usually just see 1 pair...occasionally perhaps 2 pair...this snow/ice weather. I have to trust Rod and he says that the feeder has food in it...with the number if birds that have been out by my feeders, it should have been empty yesterday. But as I am not going out there I will assume he is actually looking at the bird seed. Hey..I even had 1 woodpecker..for a short while when we first put out the feed. And then one pair of Doves, a few Juncos and several sparrows ( of course) They get snow and ice here but not usually this cold of weather for this long. The good news is for a few hours tomorrow it is supposed to get to 30.

We have cardinals, blue birds, blue jays, mourning doves, and today we had flocks of robins. You guys see birds we don't see but we do see all kinds all year long.
I made more bread today.

Yum, bread...sounds lovely, Sheri.
And BTW..I think we, here just ended up with 5.5 inches if snow. The problem is the ice that also came ( cutting down on the amount of snow, and it being so co!d..below zero Wind chills that they can't really treat the roads. No school again tomorrow.

The weather made a mess everywhere. We have a few power crews from our province that left yesterday for the US, hopefully they are allowed to cross the border with no troubles.
Junie, those wood peckers are killing all our fruit trees here, they bore holes to the point of the tree dying. That's what happened to my beautiful ornamental crab tree. Jeepers, they are even trying to poke holes in houses and chimneys. I have never seen them so aggressive, these past two years they have been a real pest.
I am glad you like the bread, Bestofour....pass the recipe on to others.

Your snow and ice should start to melt if those temps stay above 32. 🥳

Sunny, I haven't heard of woodpeckers hurting trees in my area but I do know of one occasion where one pecked a hole into the siding of a mans house now matter what he did to get rid of him. The bird eventually went away - never asked how that happened. I don't have a lot of them, thankfully I suppose, and when I do see them it's because they're eating the suet I've put out. I did see a pileated one a few years back and that thing was gigantic.
What's wrong with weather people. They are predicting 3 inches of snow for us again on Saturday. They predicted 20 inches, yes 20, for us last week and we got less than 2 inches. Are they all just trying to sensationalize the weather to keep their job?
