No, I haven't. Sally Fields is a great actor though.

It's a very good movie.

Thankfully we've had over 2 inches of rain this week.

No. I have not. I did see an advertisement of a movie Sally Field was in. I bet that was it. Do you think I could find the book at the library ?

Good morning.

I have started walking in the morning, just 30 minutes but it's a start. Sad part is that I have to wear jingle bells and carry spray for the bears and coyotes. That's what I get for living in the boonies. 🙄

It is supposed to be a nice day, GG and I will be having an early Mother's Day with my mother today. GG has a function to attend all day tomorrow.

Good morning!

How did you make yourself begin walking? I just cannot make myself get out in the mornings.
Sorry you have to wear the bells. But better safe than sorry

My joints were starting to feel stiff, so it was time to do something about it...I have too much to do to start giving in to aches and pains. On wet days, I'll start back on my exercise bike.

Today I am fixing another hairline crack in my bathtub. Teens and acrylic tubs do not go together. I am hoping the repairs last until GG gets out on her own....then we'll have to replace the whole tub/shower combo.☚ī¸

The book is at my library or I'm sure you can buy it somewhere. I was surprised that the movie was good too.

I actually feel better after I work out. I'm sitting here right now motivating myself to go to the gym. I just hate the getting ready part.

This morning I was watching the bluebirds from my kitchen window. I have to use binoculars to see the bluebird house clearly, but I could see what appeared to be 2 birds on the ground fighting and a bluebird standing on top of the house watching. I immediately thought one of the fighting birds was a sparrow trying to kill the bluebirds because sparrows, which are not protected because they are invasive, will kill bluebirds and takeover their nesting box. I went running out aiming to shew away the sparrow, but it was actually 2 juvenile bluebirds on the ground fighting with dad standing on the house watching. I figure they are brothers smile

I always find that the book is always better than the movie.

I have only ever seen a bluebird twice here. I wonder if it is because we are abundant with swallows?

I didn't find that swallows will actually kill bluebird babies as sparrows do but tree Swallows are highly aggressive and will harass and fight off bluebirds to take over a coveted box so that may be a reason. I do know that since I've stopped putting seeds in the seed feeders, that has made the finches fly in by the thousands, that bluebirds are more frequent visitors to the platform feeder that has meal worms in it. I'm still seeing a few finches checking out the feeders so I'm going to wait until I don't even see one before I put out more seed. I'm hoping that the finches will find someplace else to eat.

I did motivate myself to go to the gym today.

Colby and Aubry came over and brought me a corsage to wear to church tomorrow. smile

Oh how nice. A corsage to wear to church. It has been years since I have had one. We always got corsages for our moms and sometimes me to wear to church. It was such fun.

At " the farm" we had a lot of barn swallows. But we Also had bluebirds. However one day after a bad rain storm we found a dead bluebird by the fence and something had removed the eggs from the box and destroyed them... ???

Question...you have been feeding finches on platform feeders ?? I stopped filling the finch seed feeders as the only one getting any seeds was the resident squirrel.

I remember when they had corsages for church. They were given by color, white if your mother had died, pink if your mom was still alive and yellow for something else but I can't remember what for. They were carnations.

Your grands are very thoughtful, Bestofour. 😘

Junie, have you seen any hummingbirds yet?

I'm wondering if they'll be late this year with the colder than normal weather. They usually arrive here around May 16.

For us here you have a white corsage if your mother is dead and a red one if your mother is alive so mine was white with pink beads because Aubry picked it out and she loves pink. Shelley's children got her a red one with white on it because I'm alive (sort of).

Junie the swallow may have killed that bluebird. They will go into a nest or bluebird box, murder the babies then run off the parents when they return, then take over the nest, leaving the dead bird bodies in place, and lay their own eggs. They are not a protected bird so I guess legally they can be shot but I was just going to shew the one I thought was a swallow away and hope he didn't come back.

I think my hummingbirds arrived late March which is the regular time for this area.

I got a trail cam but it runs on batteries so I've brought it inside because I got tired of changing the batteries. I did get a few fun pictures though. Keep us posted Junie.

The bluebird box was empty, with some broken egg bits strewn around in the grass.. but no other nests were ever built and this was the second year for a bluebird to use the box. Our swallows had lots of room in our barn. We had a bunch. All they ever did was eat such as mosquitoes.

We had no color for corsages. To be honest I usually bought myself mom and Marie orchid corsages.

Good morning.

Our trail camera runs on batteries as well. We usually put it up in the fall to keep an eye on the deer or bear in our hay or wheat fields.

It is a cool day here.

Freezing outside today, it feels like there is still snow in the air. It's still a good day to get some more outdoor chores completed. I need to cut back saplings around the barn fencing.

We usually get orchid corsages at Easter.

Weather was wonderful here today. I planted 14 okra seeds, made a small brick (that have been stacked outside for years) patio beside my pretend greenhouse and sat my big potted plants on it, and got my arbor, which had been taken apart and put into the woods by a man cutting my grass because he didn't want to have to cut or weed eat around it, out of the woods and put it back up. He will not be moving it again.

Good job Bestofour...I'd be finding a new man to cut my grass. Your the employer, he doesn't make the rules.

Junie, do you have a florist nearby?

Today I need to spread my mulch.

As it happens we do..BUT I have not thought ahead before. And as I remember Wal-Mart used to have orchid corsages for cheaper. But I will just go to the florist this next year..you know if I remember

I agree with Sunny, Sheri. I would be looking for a new grass man. You are paying.. ..you get to make the rules.

Have fun outside today, Sunny.

I did have fun. My mulch is all spread, I did one side of my house and the back bed this year. I did the other side and the front last year.

I also started digging sod out for a new bed in the back of my shed. I had three trees that we cut down a few years ago but the stumps are taking forever to decay. Last year I made a bed between two of the stumps, this new bed connects to the other. Next to each stump I planted a blueberry shrub a couple of years ago as well. I'll use one bed for tomatoes and the other for peppers.

Now I can mow easier instead of going around and around, I'll have one rectangular bed.

Sunny, sounds like you've got a plan. What type of mulch do you use? When will it be planting time for you?

Junie, I think you're right about stores, other than florists, having orchid corsages at certain times. I haven't seen any in a while but I haven't been looking either.

It was lovely here today and I stayed outside most of the day. I have a pain doctor appointment tomorrow to discuss trying botox and then a neuromuscular massage in the afternoon. I'm sick of this.

Bestofour, I use cedar mulch....sadly it is black. It is either red or black here. I can plant potatoes, onions and other root veggies(by seed)at the end of the month. Anything else has to wait until after the full moon in June, we get frost. Mind you, I've seen frost here in every month except July.

I pray your appointment goes well.

Yay for nice and sunny days !! It is beginning to be warmer and humid here these last few days. The summers here make me miss home more. The heat here is far worse than our heat back in Illinois. We had high 80's & 90's but the humidity makes the heat here so much more unbearable.

I hope you continue to see the bluebirds.

I seen them yesterday but they haven't been back, the swallows are nesting and very aggressive.

Humidity with the heat is a killer.

See I never had issues with the our barn swallows. They lived in our barn.( Of course) And left the birds in the yard alone that I ever noticed. I loved to sit outside and watch the swallows swoop in the barn lot eating mosquitoes and other flying insects. My yard hed blue birds hummingbirds and of course sparrows.

Yes about the humidity. Ugh !

Today I planted my flowers, watered some, and cleaned off my back yard sidewalk. Then I picked lettuce for supper tonight, and green onions. After these I will be waiting for my second round of green onions to grow enough to eat. I still have lettuce to eat.

We had an abnormally hot day today...and of course I got a burning. Lesson learned, spray-on sunscreen is garbage. Bact to cooler weather tomorrow.

I'll be waiting for a pic of your flowers when they start to fill out.😁

It's warming up here too. Into the 90's next week. NC has terrible humid weather. Junie, I'm shocked that your temperatures are so different where you are now. I usually get Ginger's weather in MS a day or two after she's had it. And I'm amazed that you're still getting lettuce. I haven't planted lettuce in several years. Not sure it's worth it just for me.

I'm convinced the finches were keeping other birds away because now that they're gone lots of bluebirds, chickadees, cardinals, bluejays and other birds have been around the house. The finches would sit on a feeder and eat until every seed was gone. I don't know why they didn't explode. I did fill the finch feeder in the backyard today so we'll see if they come back or if they've found another feeding spot.

I have squirrels that eat my finch feed. I have to buy a squirrel proof finch feeder, then I will put that out. I have a new squirrel proof feeder for the other birds. After the Raines stop this next week, I will put that out as well. And of course I need to put out my hummingbird feeder.

It has been cool off and on so that has helped my lettuce stick around. But I guess that is soon coming to an end. And I don't think I will plant lettuce next year either....Seems just as easy to buy it.

Pictures will be coming, Sunny.

Good morning.
