I will Keep my ears open Ladies. It is nice of you to to try to help me. Thanks. 😘 I hilled up my potatoes for the second time...that means the potato bugs will be arriving soon. Usually the first week of July is when they make an appearance. The thunderstorms passed under us today, I hope they do the same tomorrow.

Yes, I pray it continues.
It's a holiday here, Canada Day. There a few things going on but it will be too hot to even attempt to go. The circus/amusement rides came to town, GG and her friends are planning to go for the day tomorrow. It will be too crowded today.

Ah to be young and have the heat not bother you. I hope they have a nice time. What does Canada Day represent, if I may ask.
I miss going to the parks during carnivals & such. We at very least would go to buy supper of some sort. That or I would go buy a few sandwiches to bring home. Too many people for Rod to deal with

Canada Day marks the confederation of three colonies joining together in 1867 to form the country of Canada. It is always on July 1st.
There are always little parades, gatherings and such but it is too hot to sit in the sun for any amount of time in this heat.

Thanks for the explanation. Sorta like our July 4 th.
And yes, far too hot for any outside activity at all.

It is way too hot to be outside here too but I might try to do some 4th of July things. I don't think I'll be standing or sitting and watching a parade though, even though lots of others will be, unless one of the grands wants me to take them. It's like a blast heater out there.
I'm not social either but I push myself to be because being here alone tends to drive me crazy after a while and probably makes me weird. Plus I don't want to be a strange, old, window woman who is found after being dead for months because she had no friends and no one noticed she was gone until the mail person couldn't get any more advertisements into her mailbox and reported it to someone.

I never thought of it that way Bestofour, when you are by yourself.....your mind needs stimulation.
Now that GG is old enough to go to things with her friends....we tag team as chauffeurs, then get to avoid the heat and crowds.

That part about being found by the postman's notice of a full mail box, could well happen here. I really should have stayed home. I was far more social there....So glad you make yourself get out more, Sheri. Good for you !!!
Yay for the tag team chauffeur years. I loved them. I had to drive all over but it got me out as well as the. girls.

Of course you are right, Sunny. She would. Shame on me for thinking like that No, shame on me.....if I thought my daughter would. 😉 It is hot, my air conditioner is running non stop and it's still 78*F in here. Never depend on a portable air conditioner.

We had a window air conditioner at the farm.( It was there when we bought the house) The good news is once we insulated the house and got a high powered fan for circulation, it cooled the 4 rooms downstairs. (The house had each room connect to the other so that made it easy to cool. We eventually got a small window unit for one of the girls rooms upstairs. They had to both sleep in one room at night to keep cool and be able to sleep. But of course they had no problem with that.

Those window ones work ten times better than these portable boxes. If I ever have to replace a window in here....it will be one that can hold a window air conditioner.
It's 111*F with the humidity right now outside.

Try #2
Yea some windows are not so easy to use when installing a WIndow.AC unit. But a few boards and.such will get the job done. Been there. I think I would like a portable unit..one could just cool where they were, right ??? Carol is sitting in front of my little 6 inch plug in fan as I type.
I made myself a to do list for today. I need to get certain things done.

Yes, if I didn't have an open floor plan it would work wonderfully. It is set up in the window in the dining area so if I sit at the kitchen table...then it keeps me cool. I just got in from cutting the grass. I headed out early, it is 95*F here now. 😕
DH said I need to have my head checked being out there today, but it is supposed to get hotter. Thunderstorms for tonight and tomorrow.
I made a list as well Junie, but I keep adding to it. 🥴

I got my yard stuff done early today because I would be dead of heat stroke otherwise. I'm feeling kind of sorry for myself today. Johnny loved the 4th of July and fireworks as do I so I suppose that's why.
Excuse my stupidity but you guys don't have central air?

You have the right to feel sad Bestofour, that's the part of loving and losing someone.😘
No, central air where I live, I don't know anyone who has one. We never had heat like this until a few years ago. It seems to get hotter with each passing Summer.

We don't have central air. We have a heat pump mind you it cools like central air does in the summer and it heats in the winter. We do have a house furnace as back up though. Apparently if it gets below a certain temperature outdoors in the winter the heat pump does not work. Then automatically the furnace begins heating the house so we are covered thankfully. The heat pump is cheaper to run though.
Happy 4 th of July.
I sure miss photobucket especially on holidays.

Happy 4th of July to all of you.
Your heat pump is like the ones many installed here, then found out they didn't work for our Winters. People kept them for air conditioning though. The problem is that they don't take out the humidity so their houses are now having mildew problems while running them in Summer. Sometimes you just can't win.
Today I picked my garden strawberries to make shortcakes, I replanted runners last year from the main plants so I will only get a good haul next year.

We don't have trouble with humidity, in the house, so that's good.

I click on 'use full editor', I then click on 'attachment manager'. It gives me a box that says 'select a file to attach'. I then click on that, which allows me to go through my files. I click on the file I want, then click on 'done' in the box.
Then the 'post reply' that we normally click to post our comments. When it posts, the pic I picked is there.

It's been so hot here the dill and parsley has already started flowering and the dill is very short. Amazingly I had one scare with squash bugs and killed all that I saw and haven't seen any more in weeks. Never did see any adults so I figured they be laying eggs everywhere but it hasn't happened. Maybe they can't stand the heat either. I've had lots of baby birds hatched and on the ground and lots of lightening bugs or fireflies (whatever they're called in your neck of the woods) and my only crepe myrtle tree is more beautiful than it's ever been. Guess some things like this furnace weather.

I haven't seen fireflies since I was a child. My father would take me to his cousins in the evening, they lived in an old farmhouse in the woods....it was the only place that we knew had them. Picture 20 kids running wild with old jam jars, trying to see who could catch the most. Thanks for bringing back the memory for me.😘 Yes, the heat makes some things flourish but others bolt. I had to cut off onion seed pods off a few onions already.

Fireflies, I will have to pay attention tonight. We kids always "played" with them at home too. Mom always gave me a quart canning jar with a hole in the flat. Probably always the same one... It is thundering in the distance. Rain is probably waiting for me to leave for my errands.

Sunny do you live in a place with a lot of lights? Around here lightening bugs can't be seen in the cities because of so many lights.
Junie wish I could hear from thundering in the distance as long as it brought in some rain. I used to not complain about the weather because I can't control it but I guess because I'm older I can barely stand this dry heat.
I went to the gym today, ran into Darbi and Aubry which is always nice, then came home and ate a turkey, tomato, mayo sandwich on white bread, chips with salsa, a cucumber, 5 oreo cookies, 2 BIG glasses of Pepsi. Shoulda stayed at the gym.

I think a lot of things change as we get older. But IMO it is what it is. I figure at my age. I get to complain if I want to. Join my crowd.I complained when it was dry..and then I complained when the monsoons came. Sounds like a very nice meal and a better time that was spent with family. Look at it this way.....at least you did go to the gym.

No, not many lights here Bestofour. They seem to gather in swampy areas and I'm in an open field.
Too funny about all the food, exercising makes a person hungry.
I'm liking your comment Junie, about having the right to complain. That's my take on things here lately.☺️
