All told for rain we got 1-1/10 inch of rain yesterday. As I said, we got.enough that I did not have.to.water last night, so yay.

That's great, it rained heavy here all night as well. It was greatly needed. Thanks for sharing. 😉

Just got back from the local grocery store. $12 for a gallon of milk is just wrong.

Gee..that is a lot for a gallon of milk. And here I was complaining about paying around d $6.50 a gallon. Oh my !!

Here WalMart brand milk is $2.57 a gallon. I can't imagine paying 12.00.

I have a friend who is at an airshow in Oshgosh Wisconsin and it's being affected by the smoke coming from Canada.

Well if you are talking going to say Dollar General or Wal-Mart my milk is around $4.57 a gallon. However at the local bass station/convenience store in was $6.47

But either way, I am very impressed that you can buy milk so cheaply. Yay for you, Sheri.

Tell your friend that we are sorry for the smoke. Canada just sent their air force to rescue some YMCA campers in Minnesota since we are closer, they are having fire trouble as well. I think New York is getting our smoke from the Ontario fires as well.

I was watching the news where Trump said he was going to add tariffs to us for our smoke crossing the border. I told DH, I wonder if we can tariff him back for tornadoes. I know talking politics is a touchy subject but good gosh, the man is ridiculous.

Today I bought 1/2 gallon lactaid milk for $ 4.48, it's a brand name though, and I only get 1/2 a gallon at a time but the expiration date isn't until September 9th. That always amazes me.

I think Trump made that comment tongue in cheek and the news media, that hates him, ran with it. Tornados are so scary. I may have told you this already - Darbi's husbands house was destroyed by a tornado about 5 years ago and they were home. There are a lot of tornados in Mississippi close to where Ginger lives. Her town is sort of dipped down into the Delta so it seems the tornados go over them. Anyway, today the sky in WI is clear enough for the show. It lasts until the 26th so hopefully they will die down or the wind will shift which will be sad for someone else.

Today at Wal-Mart I paid $4.16 for a gallon of Great Value milk. Thing is I think the half gallon was the same price ( strange, isn't that ?). in comparison I think Lactaid is cheap at the price you got it for. I a!so paid $7.47 for pound of ground d beef. I think I pay around $3.98 at the meat market I go to.

That's crazy with the price difference.

My friend in Wisconsin said the smoke has died down so maybe the fires are more under control. One can only hope.

The only chickens are my own but they are far enough off my property that they do not roam in my yard.

We are under thunderstorm warnings for this evening. It cooled down but more heat starting tomorrow for the week.

How are your gardens growing?

We had them last evening. Luckily we only wound up with thunder and 8/10 inch of rain.

My gardens..The blackberries are done. I might have gotten 1-1/2 gallons berries, but at least we got a few crisps and some fresh berries to eat. My large tomatoes are either splitting or going rotten before I can pick them. My larger cherry tomatoes are doing about the same but at least we are getting a few of them to eat. The good news is my yellow sun sugar cherry tomatoes are doing really well. And my potatoes are about ready to dig up. As a matter of fact we are eating a few of them tonight.

My onions and my lettuce are both long gone. I will be planting some lettuce again this fall though.

We haven't had any rain this week and it's been close to 100° every day. I'm still getting cucumbers, tomatoes - regular and cherry - and a few squash. The squash has been the strangest thing in this horrible heat. The plants haven't gotten big at all. They're more like bush plants than big, flowing squash plants. I thought I had bought some weird seeds but they're the usual ones. They have produced pretty well though so I'm not complaining. I got lettuce at the farmers market but since I can't do that in the winter I might grow my own again. Not sure I'm growing anything again - too much work for one person, but I don't want to die from eating lettuce.

Yes on all counts, But you might consider growing lettuce, one tomato plant and potatoes next year.
. if you store the potatoes in paper lined soda boxes, not touching, and in a cool place they will keep well into January. And lettuce is easy after all. I wish we could freeze lettuce but oh well.

As I have said, I only buy iceberg lettuce now a days, as romaine and raw spinach have been recalled too frequently. To clean it, I throw away all outer leaves until I get down to a layer where no-one could have touched it. Then I wash this outer layer well. Yes that wastes a lot of lettuce but I figure better safe than sorry. Plus a hospital stay would be more costly.

Glad it's been raining most of the day. I understand that West Virginia is having flooding. Seems it's either feast or famine as far a rain lately.

I didn't grow potatoes this year and am not planning on growing a garden at all next year except for cucumbers. I'm planning on cutting down on everything even planting flowers. I just don't want to do it anymore. I think the heat is getting to me.

With heat like that I don't blame you, Bestofour. Is there a local farmer that you can trust for produce? Mind you, no matter where one buys now...the chemicals and pesticides are ridiculous.

Enjoy those yellow tomatoes Junie, maybe next year you should get more of that variety.

Funny you should say that about the yellow.tomatoes. I say funny because I was consider just growing 2 red cherry tomatoes next year as the yellow are much sweeter. I grow them for the girls. They love them.

Been up since before 4 am. It was so hot I could not sleep. Mind you my mind would not shut down either.

I have those kind of nights as well.

Can you get Tiny Tim tomato plants there? The plants grow about 18 inches tall at most and just keep producing non stop.

I've tried growing different colored tomatoes in years past and I'm so used to the reds that it's hard for me to tell when they're ripe. The cherries seems sweeter than the bigger sizes and are easy to put in a salad.

I got over 3 inches of rain in the last 2 days and it's only going to be 80° today. It's so nice that even the hummingbirds are back out in record numbers. That said the rain must have been very hard during the night because my power came off and on several times and I think it woke me up each time so I didn't sleep either. Shoulda called you Carol.

My farmers market is organic or is supposed to be and everything is supposed to be grown within 50 miles of the market location. The market director is supposed to check farms to make sure this is true so I feel safe buying produce from the vendors.

The only tomatoes that ripen on a vine here are cherry tomatoes. I try different varieties if I can find them. It's great to have a farmer's market such as that.

We have farmers markets here close, but I went in years past and I was not impressed with what I saw. I found the ones here nice, but expensive.

I was so used to the small Farmers market we had at home. They were very nice. some weeks there were even plants and crafts offered.

glad you got the rain..and so happy for the cooler temps, Sheri. I have tried Cherokee Purple tomatoes 2 different years. I have not ever eaten a ripe tomato from either plant. I give up

We have a farmer's market(30 minutes away) from spring to Fall here but it's all crafts and baked goods. I go maybe once a year.

well if you go at least it will be a day out ,??

My market has evolved over the years and now we have some with plants, one with beautiful bouquets, stained glass, soaps - but everything still has to be made within 50 miles - it's considered a LOCAL market.

I went to a Jimmy Buffet and Beyond concert at the revived old theater in Monroe last night and it was so fun. It was mostly a bunch of old white people who are past the point of wanting to be cool or caring about what people think so it was a good time. I didn't grow up in the south so I've never been a big beach music fan but it was fun. Plus it was free!

Raining again. I'm not really complaining but it would be very nice if this rain could be spread out over a few weeks, you know a little today a little tomorrow a little next week, but that's not how it works anymore.

About the rains. That is how it happened here. We got just barely under 5 inches of rain in one day/night. The weather people called it the rain of the decade. then a week later we get around 4 inches. mind you we have been getting a half inch here and an inch there in the mean time.
I too wish all this rain would spread itself out.

I have about 10 gallons of rain water bottled up on my sun porch. I think I will have to take it to the basement to prevent the algae from growing. until now is has been cool enough to prevent that.

I'm remember the days of dancing and not caring....but it was from the gin not being old.😁 I'm glad you got out to have fun, you need to do that more often.

Junie, add a piece of copper pipe to your water jug. I don't know how or why it works but a piece of copper plumbing pipe keeps water from algaeing. I just hang a six inch piece on a string from my inlet at the top....and that's for a full IBC tank. My grandparents aways put a few copper pennies in the water in the tree stand at Christmas as well because of it.

Sunny I feel pretty sure gin was the reason for some of the dancing last night. So funny.

Interesting. My friend told me to put copper in my birdbaths and I still have some that Johnny used for something but it didn't work for my birdbaths. Maybe they're too shallow??

I dug my potatoes tonight. I got around 40 pounds. my 3 plastic pepsi cartons are fuller than I would like. and they are washed off. when they are dry Rod will take them to the basement.

I twisted my foot at some point. I guess I will wear shoes with good support for a few days.

Bestofour, throw some clean pennies into your bird bath after giving it a good wash and rinse with vinegar and water first.

It is hot again, ugh....i just got in from putting a line of clothes to dry....I had to change my tank top from the humidity when I came in. I was soaked. I'm at the point where I'm taking two showers a day.

I think a penny is only about 90% copper. The copper I used is 99.9%. I cleaned the birdbaths with bleach first. Do you think the vinegar helps the copper work? I'm gonna clean 1 tomorrow and add the penny because after all this rain they are a mess.

Great on the potatoes Junie. Take your shoe off and elevate your leg. Your foot will feel better quicker. Sunny, when will you dig up your potatoes?

It rained here a little bit today but when it stopped it was blazing hot. Not sure what's happening weatherwise tomorrow.

I'm not sure about the vinegar but we always washed all our livestock and chicken waterers with vinegar and water, then added copper just as our grandparents did.

It is HOT, and of course DH decided it is time to start making hay. 🙄
