We have lived in MO for 8 years now, and My potato plants keep dying earlier than the year before. I do not ever remember digging potatoes in Ju!y before. I will ask my SIL about digging potatos.

potato bugs usually do a lot of damage, some years it is fungal diseases that take them out early. This year I have not seen one potato bug but....never in my life has that happen in my garden. I hope it continues.

Yes a lot of years they eat off my blooms..thus year I actually kept most of them. I too hope your luck with your potatoes continues.

A few years ago I bought a few coneflower perennials for $1 each, they were tiny and have only started blooming this year. Some are blooming an orange color....if I would have known, I would have bought more. I'm excited to see what the other few will be. I'll get pics later to share.

I tried several different times to get coneflowers started. my ground will not cooperate.

I have no clue why but coneflowers need a Winter freeze to grow well. Even the seeds need to be stored in a fridge for months before planting to take.

These were bought at the same time but each one is blooming different.

Thanks, I especially like the second one. It is orange but has a double layer of frilly petals....I'm going to let that one go to seed to spread around.

yes, I too love them. especially the darker red/orange ones (there are 2) But in all honesty I love them all. you are one lucky lady.

I have no idea what any of them are, they were bought two years ago on clearance for $1 each. They were so small that I didn't even think they'd grow.

Good morning, still haying here. I'll be glad when we are done. Thankfully it is all the big round rolls but the flies are awful.

Sunny are the flies the stinging kind - like big and green? one of my friends lives not far from me in a townhome and she has a very small back area that has a tall, solid fence around it and lately when she goes outside into the area she has to cover every part of her body due to mosquitos. So far for me mosquitos haven't been awful this year - yet - anyway so the only thing we can figure is she doesn't get a cross wind because of the tall fence.

No Bestofour, when it gets too hot the mosquitoes tend to hide. It's the small black flies and what we call deer flies that are terrible. I am always covered in welts and bumps, then of course one scratched the itchiness so I am also covered in tiny scabs.

I have never seen a big green biting but here....yet.

Pouring rain today, we need it so I won't complain. It's a good day to get some baking done.

Once in a while I'll have gigantic, green flies. I don't know if they sting or bite because I try to get away from them and kill them if I can. I also have small, black ones but they don't sting or bite - just a big nuisance. I didn't know that about mosquitos. Now to decide if I'd rather live in a furnace or have mosquitos.

I haven't had a drop of rain since the several days last week. Areas around me have had more rain. There is rain in the forecast for next week but I think sometimes the weather people just make that up so they can get a paycheck.

My gosh, the weather forecasts have been messed up here as well. It was supposed to be nice last night and chance of a shower today. It is pouring rain instead.

My washing machine is banging itself around. I hope the YouTube videos work on how to fix the stabilizer rods....wish me luck.

Back in the day when we lived on the farm, I called our repairman, as the drum was not stable
He looked and said he had to order a part. Well that was at least 26 years ago, and he still has not returned to. fix my machine.
I finally had to go out and get a new machine which was a shame. besides the unstable drum the machine worked great.

good Saturday morning.
We got a little rain over night, and thunder.
Today highs are to be in the 70's. I am thinking I will make myself go out and trim my blackberries. I don't know why but I have a hard time making myself "start" a job. The actual work, not a problem...just the idea of starting. Oh well

It worked. The rods have a little foam in the middle of a plastic case filled with grease. The foam gets worn, you take new grease and add a piece of rubber hose in the middle of the foam...put it back together. My washer is now working like new again. YouTube, .25 cents worth of supplies, 20 minutes of time saved us from buying a new washer. I am so grateful.

Junie, your not as young as you used to be. Putting off starting chores goes with it.😘

It will be a nice day today but everything is soaked outdoors. My water tote was overflowing last night with all the rain.

I think I have a fungus starting in my potatoes, not the real blight but what's called early blight. Have any of you ever dealt with it?

I do not think I have. Never really had a problem with my potatoes, sorry.

It was so hot and humid and we had thick fog in the mornings for a few days. I seen these round circles on the bottom of my potato plant leaves. I cut them off and searched for potato diseases, it looks like early blight. Oh well, I sprayed them with a hydrogen peroxide mix...I'm YouTubing everything lately.🤫

my problem has been splitting tomatoes. I may well still freeze a few containers of tomatoes. I am taking all the orange tomatoes to the girls. I figure they are a good snack

Usually splitting tomatoes are caused by too much water. It's feast or famine with gardens these days.

Another wet, humid day here.

I didn't plant potatoes this year but have never had a problem in years past. I never even had potato bugs. Guess my climate is good for potatoes. In years past I've had powdery mildew on cucumber plants but not this year. This year there were big black spots on the cucumber and squash leaves and I sprayed with baking soda and water and it went away. Not a lot of rain this summer but since it rained last week my few tomatoes are splitting.

It's beyond a breeze, it knocked over my flower pots, broke one of my chairs and the power was on and off all morning.

oh gracious me. I am SO sorry. That is just plain wrong.

That's Mother Nature for you. My zinnias and half my sunflowers are broken and my corn stalks are lying flat. I spent the past hour cutting stuff and tying up others. Thankfully I have my tomatoes caged and staked with old trampoline tube poles.

Some days it makes a person wonder why they even bother.🥴
