IF you leave your corn completely alone, most if not all of your corn will straighten up. At least that is how it works here, Sunny.

I tried to straighten it, added some extra soil against the base....it's another windy day though. It is what it is.🙄

My yard needs to be cut as well but it's either too wet or too hot. What crazy weather.

I am having a good time..but mainly cooking.

Rod has been cutting grass in the evenings of late since have been having the high heat days.

It rained last night - at least an inch so I don't have to water today. Yippee.

I had the grass cut on Friday, I think, so it's all done around here. Last night I brought in more cucumbers and a few okra but the okra hasn't even made enough to cook, which has NEVER happened before. I usually end up freezing okra because I have so much. Oh well. Brought in 1 squash and a few more small ones will be ready in a day or two but I think that will be the end of it too. I spent over $300.00 at the grocery store today but I bought 2 Tides, 2 bleaches, 2 hamburgers, oranges, potatoes, and lots of stuff so I don't have to shop again for a month or two except for bread (if I eat 3 loaves ). How much is hamburger where you guys live? It's $7.44 a pound here for the 80/20.

a few days ago, I bought 2 pkgs. of 80/20 ground beef at Wal-Mart here. I paid $7.23 a pound. I was a young kid but I remember Porterhouse Steak being $1.29 a pound.. and momma would not buy that cut of Steak because of the high price...My how things have changed. The prices today are downright scary.

It was on sale last week for $9 a pound Bestofour. I rarely buy any now since I can get ground pork at half that price on sale.

When I had cattle, the buyers made it impossible to make a profit. Then the butchers were stealing meat and charging over $2 a pound to cut it(and they priced that on the weight of the whole animal) and you are not allowed to sell it without a license.

I have no clue what lies ahead for any of us and the following generations.

Well, the heat certainly made my bush beans set. We are eating to our hearts content. Tomorrow I'll pick to freeze them for winter. 😋

ah freeze for the winter..great idea.
And also save some seed for next year, correct ??

Yes, I leave pods to dry on the plants at the end of the season....free seeds for next year.

We are under heat warnings again today...with rain warnings for the week ahead. 🙄 My lawn is a mess.

about your lawn ..I wish ours was a mess. When we lived in Illinois, the grass had to be cut like one time in July and once in August.. the grass mostly went brown... it worked out well as those 2 months had the worst heat as well.. This weather here is just crazy. I have to make myself go out and water . I am just thankful that we have had a few days here and there do I could go out and get some of my work done. I figure one must be thankful for small favors.

It's not the grass that is growing, my yard was once a cow pasture so I have weeds that grow a foot in a week.

yea, I know about those. we had them in our 3 acre pasture when we lived on the farm. Rod or his dad would walk the pasture and pull them out.
They are not nice. You have my sympathies. I would have thought that they would have gone away over the years.

The rain has really caused my grass to grow. It had to be cut last week and then again today to keep it under control. I'm glad for the rain though. And the hummingbirds are loving it.

yes about fast growing grass. I think Rod has had to cut our grass every 4 days...you know, if it is not raining.

Rod says it is only 70*F outside, but it is sticky and really humid..so it feels much "warmer" than it actually is

I am going to the meat market today. wish me luck if you would please.

The forecast is never right anyway. I went out in the heat to mow the lawn, trimmed and weed wacked.... thunderstorms still aren't here yet and it's 3 pm. It takes me over five hours to do it all, now I know why people buy houses with tiny lawns.

Nope sorry, not rich, just fortunate to be able to get by if I watch what I am spending.

I have not been to the meat market all summer. I have been buying a few meals of meat at a time at Wal-Mart and making do. I think I will be marking down when I bought this meat and see how long I can make it last.

You are right about the forecast...although I do remember a few when the forecast was little more than a guess, so I guess it is a bit better now. (?)

I don't eat a lot of meat. Never have and actually try to force myself to eat more protein. My grocery bill isn't high unless Colt is here and he eats a LOT of meat but he's not here that often.

I have to go to a funeral tomorrow. It's just a graveside but it will take me an hour to get there and an hour or more back depending on traffic.

ok here is why I go there for my meat..
At Walmart the 80/20 was $7.23 a pound
at the.meat store the ground round (85/15) was $6.49...
it was $3.89 last time I bought any from this meat place.
And the ground pork was $3.89 a pound.

but here is the good one:
The pork steak was $2.79 a pound, I could not believe my luck of that...I will be buying more of that in the future...

But see, I usually don't look at the per pound. What I do is I decide how much money I want to spend and I pretty well stick to my decision.

Sheri: There are a lot of foods with protein in them that are not meat. But then I am sure you knew that. I myself, prefer meat...I always have.

I use pork steak in stir fry. I cut it in thin strips, it works well. GG is a peanut butter eater, it makes for a great protein because she will only eat chicken.

I use ground pork instead of ground beef in a lot of my meals now...it's half the price.

I love peanut butter. Yum. Good score on the shopping Junie. What all do you guys do with pork? I've cooked pork chops once in a while but not often.

well I make my hamburger stroganoff with ground pork sometimes, I make patties with it. and as Sunny said, You can take a ground beef recipe and substitute ground pork instead. You can also make meatloaf with half ground beef and half ground pork...and I assume you could use all ground pork for meatloaf

I also make sure I have a few pork steakes to either grill OR bake/roast in the oven. and I quite often add BBQ sauce as well.

I sometimes buy Johnsonville Brats as well. and I cook them in the oven. easy and no frying involved that way

yes, I used to have to lie on my bed with a room dark. My DD would wear my lab coat and Bring me cold rags to put on my head. ( she was 5). I can still see her smile as she " took care of me".

I'm wondering if it might be a menopause thing. I have no other symptoms but I'm past 50.🤔

Sunny I've never had a headache like that but one of my sisters does. She used to take some type of medicine but it stopped working so now I think she just deals with it when it happens by lying down for a while.

My friend had prescription meds to take when she gets her migraines. works for her.
my Dr. gave ma a muscle relaxer years ago for mine. after taking it twice I did not have another for years. but when I brought it up to another Dr. he acted like I was crazy.

Sheri. There is also a cut called "country ribs"(smaller meaty ribs but with a bone)....but here they call the same cut western ribs...which is really a roast cut into rib like sections, no bone. I put garlic salt and pepper on my pork. and then sometimes I BBQ and sometimes I don't.I love it both ways.

I love pork, it makes the most tender meatballs....delicious.

They sell migraine meds over the counter here, I might have to pick up a small bottle in case.

Yes do pick up those meds. They should be good a long while. Better to be prepared.

About the tender meatballs. How do you cook them so they are not compact and tough. ?? Would love to know please.

The secret is using fresh bread, I just tear it up in tiny pieces to add to the meat. You have to gently fold together to make the meatballs and fry in a pan.
