You will get flowers indoors...but the flowers need to be pollinated in order to go ahead and produce the egg.

Angelblossom....those thorny things came right before the flower buds started forming, seems like it was a week or maybe two after I saw the thorns is when I had buds forming.

My egg is getting bigger. If you go back and look at the picture with the egg you can see to the middle left edge the green round thing which is another egg that is small...I do not know why I never saw it before...not even after looking at the picture.

It might just come out of the pot...but it is so large I am afraid to try doing it that way, besides the clay pot it is in is not in very good shape and has a few chips out of one side, so breaking the pot doesn't bother me..just removing it and getting it into another pot that hopefully will be large enough for it to stay in, without damage or trauma to my plant at this point since I have eggs is what concerns me. I think I will try to repot it tomorrow and will report back with what happened and maybe a new picture. I'll try to get some pictures of the other eggs forming.

I counted and there are a total of 7 eggs so far on my plant. I did repot it and so far everything seems fine...It was very root bound...These things once they start growing can really put the roots out. Here are a couple of blurry pictures of other eggs which are small still and of plant after repotted. The weather has warmed back up during the day, so I have been moving it in and out daily and it has more blooms which I hope will get pollinated making more eggs.

Here's an update on mine. Today I transplanted all to 6 inch plastic pots. I'll snap a pic in a few days for you to see. They are still hanging on, but are slow growing. I may experiment and put one in the ground, not sure. rolz

Well we had a huge storm here Tuesday night with 70mph winds, it ripped the siding off of one side of my house and broke several large trees....But even though my wonder egg plant was outside it suffered no damage at all, which was amazing, it is still doing good and I will try to get a new picture later.

Everyone needs to post a picture of their's or give an update on how their plant/plants are doing.

Haven't posted in here in a while.. lol
All of mine are doing OK, they haven't lost anymore leaves though... they are getting bunches of side-shoots with little leaves on them coming off, from where all the larger leaves are:

**I'll edit this post with the height measurements in a bit**

Two largest ones together[they measure about 11 inches each]:
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

Next biggest--this one is actually doing the best, it has lost the least amount of leaves, and is the 'thickest' and 'fullest'... it's also in different soil than the others-- If you remember me saying a while back that I would test different soils and fertilizer[ my results-- store-bought Miracle Grow potting soil works the best, out of that, seed starting soil, and peat/soil mixture--[it measures about 9.5 inches]
:
[Linked Image]

and the smallest one: it only has 5 or so larger leaves, and the small ones just forming[measures 8 inches...]...

[Linked Image]

and if you can see the little leaves forming on this one:

thumbup

Sheri, I don't think I'm going to plant them outside, but possibly will...

I'm going to bring them outside tomorow...

I almost forgot about this topic. I finally transplanted my wonder eggs into bigger pots. They were very rootbound and I hope I didn't damage any of them when I seperated them. Is it safe to put them outside now or only during the day? It's still in the 40's here at night but we are way past our last frost date and wondered if I could just put the pots outside now and leave them there.

It's a plant that grows a fruit that looks just like eggs. From what I've been able to find out it's a type of ornamental eggplant.

Me either, that's why I wanted to try to grow some. This is actually my 2nd attempt. My first set of seeds didn't last long, but this time they seem to be doing okay.

Junie, scroll upwards and you will come to some with the white eggs on them. They will contain the seeds.
Even though they are of the eggplant family they are not edible.....Don't they look just like white eggs on there?!
They are really cool looking, and a lot of us started some from seed near the same time in December, so we could compare each others plant growth.

Bye the way, Comfrey....I found out on here, after my plants got big, that I had to put them outside to get pollinated before it would produce the egg; but do I have to put them outside before they will even have a flower bud??!! They are getting so big, but not even a bud in sight!!!!

A bunch of us got seeds from each other. I know everyone growing them in this topic started with seeds. I still have quite a few left over from the ones that were sent to me, if you'd like some pm me your address and I'll send them to you.

I don't have pics right now, but 3 of my 4 plants are getting their first bud!!! grin It's still very tiny, but it's there!

Now, what do I do to keep it 'alive'? Must I self-pollinate? why

I'm back...I have new buds forming on my plant and the first egg is now turning yellow...Yes they do need pollination in order to produce eggs...So if you see buds then put your plant outdoors, even if you have to bring it back in at night. I'm so happy to to hear alot of you are finally getting buds on your plants!!!

Mark and Shirley, that is great you had buds. Comfrey, as usual, clap.

Mine are coming along slowly. I think I feel stickers on their stems. Hmmm. No sign of a bud. tears
May give two of away soon.

Here's what they look like today.

I just found out this morning that there is some sort of animal out there that likes to eat wonder eggs. I had put mine outside to get more sun now that it's warm enough, they've been out there almost 2 weeks with no problems. I went to go to work today and noticed that in one of the pots 2 of the plants were missing. I did find one half buried and the soil was lose in the pot. I guess I'll have to start bringing them in at night? Very frustrating. They are still small and I'm still trying to get them big enough to bud. If it's a nocturnal animal all I know that we have is raccoons and possums. Nothing ever touched my bulbs, why these plants?

I had several buds on just one plant. one of them opened. I set it outside to get pollinated. why Should I have had at least had two buds open? I dun know?!
Anyway, the outdoors made it almost fall down!! Or else the cool air overnight! (I forgot to bring it in blush )

I don't know if a bee did its thing or not. nervous I brought it inside before it layed down and died!!!
I just don't know if a bee can pollinate just one flower? It can't pollinate it with its own pollin, can it? why

So, I've had two flowers which have come and gone seperately!! The others don't have any buds even.

lol Christy!

My first original flower fell off... I peeked inside, to find a tiny, tiny, baby egg! lol

I hand-pollinated, as it's been raining the last week and didn't want to start my plants outside in the rain.. sunny today, though!
grin
