i love your pond and hydrangeas too! i am sure little froggie will be back, he was probably in the bottom of the pond. he is either a green OR leparod frog. i can 't remember how to tell them apart----or spell them either!
Thank you Wendy , I always thought he was a bullfrog actually because of the noise he makes.....Last year we ended up with 2 frogs and a little lizard.
Loz the pond is really pretty. Mine is kinda empty looking now but I know soon it will be packed and I will want to start taking some of the plants out so I see the water.
Thank you...your pictures are all so pretty , your porch looks like my kind of place to sit and hang out!
Can't wait for the pond to grow in this spring/summer....not sure what to do around it this year...last year I really loved all the Zinnia's...I had TONS of butterflies all summer long. And I like the bright colors.
Jiffy, I have no clue....at the nursery the woman that helped me didn't know and it wasn't labeled...I just always call it an umbrella plant because it reminds me of an umbrella.
I can probably send you some later in the year after it fills out a bit.
Guess what? Mark started digging the new pond out tonight!!!!!! He's almost done, that man works FAST!
I'm not having shelfs all around the edges though.
It'll be deep, medium, then shallow. I can set plants in the shallow end. I'm thrilled! At this rate we'll have it finished up pretty good by tomorrow. It got dark and he didn't even want to quit digging.....
See the old pond filled in with bricks? Mark is a FAST worker.....
Getting almost full and old pond totally gone! I'll put some pavers and a bench there. That thing in the water is my sunken solar ship.
Still needs a lot of fine tuning, and the rubber cut away and more rocks.....we're getting there though! One step at a time....not bad for just over a days work huh? The furthest end is about 3 feet deep, then you have the middle level, then the shallow up near Mark.
Sure if you can drag him off the couch---that's his usual spot!
Here's the album link with a lot more pictures! It looks SOOOOOO cool at night!!! I just love it! The fish love it, they've been jumping and swimming super fast---I think they think they are in the ocean.
Yep, he dug it all out with a shovel and pick.....just by himself...started late last night and finished up this afternoon....
He's a fast, hard working kind of man.
I think he loves it almost as much as me......I was walking around in it before the fish went in....thank God I didn't pull a Cindy and fall in there.
I'm thrilled with it, flowerbeds go in next all the way around and Mark is gonna box them in. Where the green chair is in the pics is where I will put my bench I get. Yippeeeee..........
I swear the fish were so excited.....jumping and zipping around, it was like they'd won the fish lottery.
Can't believe yours is up and running before mine! Wanna send Mark here to give Don a hand???
How many gallons is it about - do you know? Are you getting a bigger filter and pump for it? Are you thinking about getting any koi? So many questions!!!
Mark told me how many gallons and I can't remember....
Yep, we're getting a real pump and filter for this pond, Mark is going to fix the outlet outside so it's GFI equipped.
No Koi fish, maybe one day when my goldfish are gone...but for now I have the 2 big shubunkins, 1 white goldfish, and 2 orange fancytails.....and a ton of mosquito fish.
He's a fast worker Lynne..... When he starts something he'll work on it all day until it's done. I couldn't believe how fast he dug it out to be honest. I wasn't complaining though.
Gotta check your topic for updates.
JunieGirl, I think a bench will be so great in that one spot right there....plus it'll be surround by boxed in flowerbeds......wooohoooo, the fish are swimming so fast---they're happy.
That pond is gorgeous! We're increasing the size of ours. Not as big as I wanted but it'll do for now. I know there is no way it will be dug out as quickly as yours though.
Put those men of yours to work and get you one dug out Jiffy!
I think my fish are mating......honestly I feel terrible because I guess out of all my fish only one is a female....they are all chasing it around and pushing it in the side of the shallow area....
He was so tired, but he's all proud of himself and loves it as much as I do!!! We've been sitting out there by it a lot watching all the fish.
One corner is a tad lower than the others, he does that on purpose.... He figures if the pond overflows, because our town is known for freakishly heavy rains and flooding, that at least it would drain out of that one lower end instead of coming over the whole thing.
We still might fix it though, if we fix by shoving more dirt under the liner we'll be able to fill it a few more inches.
Got the pump installed today and the filter, AND I got 4 new ornamental grasses....2 are Cabaret grass and get up to 6 feet tall.....2 purple fountain grasses, and 4 new fish and 2 new snails!
And Mark leveled out the pond better and we filled it up a few more inches. In the new pics though it hadn't been leveled out yet.
The Cabaret Grass is a perennial down to -20, and I'm not kidding, in the pot it was as tall as my waist.
Here's the link again to my album....on each side so far I have the Cabaret Grass, Lavander, and Purple Ft. Grass.
The back of the pond will be FILLED with Zinnias and Cosmos!
Thanks Tamara , you ain't seen nothing yet....I can't wait for the back part of the grass to die behind the pond.....it's covered with landscapers stuff and mulch. As soon as it dies I'm putting in Sunflowers, Cosmos, and Zinnias!
WOW Loz IT looks great !! ISn't it nice to have a fast working hubby!!! You and Lynne are soo lucky to have hubby's that help are great about doing these things!!! I wannna Pond!!!!!!!!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Mark hemmed and hawed to start it at first, but once he got going I couldn't get him to stop.... Now he's all proud of "his" pond.
Here's the bench I'm getting.....because A. It's cheaper than the plain slat one from Lowes, it's $59. B. They'll ship it right to my local walmart for free. C. I like the back on it---even though it is resin....Resin is pretty durable though. If anything happens to that panel I'll just have Mark carve me out a wood piece to put in there!
