We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Hi everyone, I just got home from the hospital and am pretty tired, but wanted to stop in and say thank you for all of the prayers. It has been a long couple of days. Maddie, as we call her, is doing really well. Today they took her off of the CPAP that she was on yesterday (the little nose that was on her nose in some of the pictures) and she is breathing completely on her own now. Tomorrow they are supposed to start feeding her real stuff instead of all vitamins and stuff. They start out with just 1cc every 6 hours. So, I pump and take it in with us when we go to visit her and then as they need it, they thaw it out. I put it in 5 cc viles for them, but soon will just put it in milk storage baggies.
So, that is everything for now. i'm exhausted and am going to go to bed. hopefully I'll be able to sleep tonight. My belly is pretty sore and I can't get comfortable. But tomorrow we are going back to the hospital in the morning and I don't know how long we're going to be there, so i need to get as much sleep as I can.
CONGRATULATIONS!!! to your whole family!!! Jenn: Sorry this is coming so late--but Congratulations to you all. So very thoughtful of your husband to post the pictures for us all to see.
Your little Madeline looks very healthy and that is good!!
Looking forward to many more pictures as she grows.

CONGRATULATIONS,JENN AND STEPHEN!!!!! I was so happy to hear that Maddy and Jenn are Well, I almost cried!!!keep up your strength, both of you.I am Overjoyed for you and your Beautiful Baby Girl!!!!!
Maddie was put back onto the CPAP yesterday because she got too tired breathing on her own. It is something normal for preemies. ...her oxygen saturation was getting too low. Today she looked MUCH better. They turned off the billi lights today...her biliruben went down to a safe level. They are giving her tiny amounts of milk through her g-tube to get her intestines ready for larger amounts. They started her at 1cc every 6 hours on Saturday and today they put her on feedings every 4 hours. Today she was a little puffy, so they did an ultrasound on her kidneys to make sure that they are working the way they are supposed to. We will find out how they looked tomorrow. They are also going to evaluate her for a PIC line, which is a central line that will go into a vein in her arm or leg. When that gets put in, they will take the IV out of the vein in her belly button. All of her nutrition will go through that line. I think that is all that has happened.
Today I got my staples taken out. I'm not nearly as sore now...the staples must have been pulling the skin pretty tightly. They put steri-strips on the incision to make sure it all stays closed per my request....even though it is healing nicely. I go back on July 20th for another check up and to see if I had any damage to my cervix from dilating with the stitch in place.
So, that is pretty much it. We've been going down to the hospital every day. It's an hour drive each way and by the end of the day we're both pretty tired. The hospital has a Ronald McDonald house next to it that I think we will use every once in a while. Stephen is still looking for a job, but he interviewed for a place on Friday and then again today...so we're hoping he got the position. We're also looking for a house. There is one going up for auction at the end of the month. It is only 20 minutes from the hospital and we really like it...so here's hoping. That's all for now. We're going to bed....another long day tomorrow.
Jenn, Sounds like little Maddie is doing really well- I know the twins (my son's) were really little too- 2lbs and 1.5 lbs... you wouln't believe how big they are now-- 2 yrs old and over 30 lbs apiece... never know they were ever tiny. Hope you can get the house close to the hospital- even though I know she will do well you could be so much closer... we were hours away too and so were my son and his g/f- but they spent a lot of time in the NICU-- she even pumped for both of them after they could have milk.... Will be praying for her daily- you take care too... and Steve too.... rest when you can. Nana
Rest whenever you can, Jenn... grab every opportunity that comes your way. If you have a chance to sit or stand, sit. If you can lay down or sit, lay down. If you can put your feet up, prop 'em right up. I know that might sound crazy, but rest is of paramount importance for your body and soul right now.
Take care.

Thinking of you, Stephen and Maddie every day. Glad to hear you are feeling better in the tummy area, c-sections scars pull for awhile when they are healing.
Praying that all goes well for you and your family. Fingers crossed for you on the house and Stephan's job.
~~Tam~ You can bury all your troubles by digging in the dirt.
Jenn: Thanks for the update on Madeline. She sounds like she is doing well.
I too was a preemie. I weighed 3 LBS 8 oz. (born 2-1/2 months early) when mom had me. I immediately lost the 8 oz. I was in an incubator for 6 weeks. I was so small the nurses were even bringing me doll clothes in from their homes because that was all that would fit me. But I am here now--55 years later, and you would never know I was ever a preemie.
Good luck on Stephan's job and on your house. My prayers will be with you all. Please keep us updated as you can.

thanks for the update. I'm glad that maddie is back on the cpap if it means she can save her strength for growing. now to just get you better, stephen employed, and the three of you (plus menagerie) a home. you'll be in good shape then!
The ultrasound on Maddie's kidneys went well. They are functioning the way they are supposed to. They did see that one kidney is lower than the other, but that is not a big deal. The ultrasound on her head showed no bleeds (which preemie's are prone to get) and the report said "unremarkable neonatal cranium". We had them print that report out so that we can show it to her when she graduates. Her feeds are still doing really well also. Today I got to change her diaper and get her out of the incubator on my own....which was just a little scary, but soo soo great to do. The dr. came in while we were there....I like chatting with him. he's really nice. I asked him if he was happy with how Maddie is doing and he actually said yes.....but we aren't telling her. We don't want it to go to her head.
We have decided that we are going to stay home tomorrow. ...but we'll be calling the NICU a couple of times to check up on her. We just need to stay home and catch up on sleep. We're just soo soo tired right now. We are going to be working on the Maddie website tomorrow also.
Well, that is all for now. We're going to bed somewhat early tonight. Today started early and I'd rather it not end late. ;) thanks for all of the prayers. They are soo appreciated and needed.
Congratulations, Jenn and Stephen! Madeline Elizabeth is a BEAUTIFUL name, and she is a beautiful little baby. So happy for you, and you have my continued thoughts and prayers, too. :)
