If they are first year strawberrys- trim them off. You can also put small pots of soil under the runners, let them root, then cut them and plant them where you please.

I have a few that have VERY TINY roots going. .. . both of wich I planted proper depth into the soil where i would like them to grow.

How long should the roots get before I cut the feeding runner? The roots are at most, 1/4" long. . . not very long at all. Should i wait a week or 2? These "new plants" have 2nd set of leaves already coming out.

I never heard about putting a jar to ripen them- I prefer to let them get as ripe as possible on the plant them cut them off an eat em. Alot of fruit release ethylene gas as they ripen, which if you contain it it will speed up ripening. Often times that is why you hear to ripen and apple of a pear to put it in a bag with other fruit.

As for the runners- what I usally do to pot them is to put small pot with potting soil under the runner, where the roots form, and let it sit on top of the soil. The roots will finds it way into the soil. Once it bites on the soil good (usally can tell by lifting the the unner and see if the pot wants to come up with it) I cut it, fromt the plant, and let it grow some, and then you can transplant it to your desired location. Fall is a good time to set up a strawberry bed for next season.
