This is one of the water plants I found when I was looking for things for my pond. I hope it is ok that I put an active link here, if not, please someone delete it and let me know, K? Here is this awesome plant, too bad it says it is more tropical.. anyone down south that might like to grow this in their pond? I would love some, but it gets too cold here at night I am sure.. I will buy it a heater!! ROFL
Loz, I totally agree, but when I researched the plant, it said it had to be coddled along.. so I don't know if it would survive the nights here.. cause it can get pretty cool, even in midsummer.. but wow, it would be worth trying to me.. I just love the shape.. it is funny how sometimes I plant just 'jumps' out at you and sticks in your mind.. this is definitely one of those plants for me.
The very "nice" read "expensive" pond store here sells mosaic plant - the type they have actually has more redish tones to it - it IS gorgeous! I first saw it last year, but when we got the pond equipment about a month ago, they didn't have any this year yet.
Their catalogue says last year's price was 3(very small pieces) for $25, or $10 each!!!
I do think that's a bit much for something that probably won't survive our zone 6 winters here either! It also says that "Unfortunately Koi find this plant to be a culinary delicacy"!!! Guess I really won't be having any of these pretty plants, as I really really want a couple of koi!
My husband has grown it in our pond. It gets tiny yellow flowers, if I remember right. Looked great with the purple, pink and night blooming 'white knight' water lilies! It was a bit crowded. :~} But, WAY cool! Keep in mind we live in FL. Hot, sunny, FL, that is.
Heck, I would pay $10.00 for it.. even though it is an annual.. or would be here anyway.. I just love the delicate design.. and as for the Koi munching on it.. I don't have to worry about that.. cause my "Koi" are goldfish!
Actually, I have no idea if I could do that or not Triss.. I guess my main concern is the cool nights here.. I would really have to research it.. and I suppose just try it and see. That would be the only REAL way of knowing for sure. I didn't find many websites that even carried it, so it might be hard to come by. The more I look at it, the more I like it though.. and I would really be willing to take the chance on it.
