So, for the rest of us who don't get to go to Cedar Hill, what's the plan?
My son and his wife, here in Ohio, are picking me up and we are going to my son's in Kokomo, IN. for a family day, cook-out, and fun!!
I only HOPE....no..I'd BETTER be able to get on his computer so I can watch the party at Cedar Hill!!
I honestly did not want to go, so that I could stay home and enjoy the party, but he wouldn't hear of it and said that if I didn't go then they weren't going, so...what could I do....!!! I HATE having to obey my children!!!
Shirley, I am sorry you will not be home, but I am betting that you are going to have a blast.
Only if I get some computer time! I wish you could set the PC like a VCR so I could be taping it while I'm gone!!! Hey, I ought to invent that!! You just watch...someday they will come out with that capability!!!! Just remember that it was MY idea; that you heard it on this forum first. Will I be able to sue??! I'm going to copy/paste this in my file just incase I need proof.
Oh i wish I could gt my 'puter to load enough of the C H cam. I want to waqtch the festivities also---maybe my daughter will bring me her lap top--that may help. I doubt if i am doing anything----since I cannot have anything--and the girls are both so busy there most likley will not be any "partying" in my family this year. FYI: oldest is in the middle of moving--&-- youngest just moved into an apt. the size of a large postage stamp.--with $8.00 a day parking garage (that will drastically cut down on visitors)
if I could get my puter to work right, I could at least watch the festivities at Cedar Hill---- Ya All have some fun for me!!

WOW Cindy!!!! (Shirley...PM your phone number to me for the 100th time ) what do you keep doing with it??!! Why do you not keep in your phone every time you tell me you put it in there?? (But thank you!!)
(...and we are hijacking Shirley's topic! ) You are sooooo good at that!!
I haven't gotten as far as planning the 4th yet. It has been such a busy couple of weeks; last of the school year stuff. That and gov't paperwork. And health insurance stuff. They really penalize you when you turn 65. (not me but the old man) Going a little bonkers here. It will probably be a fairly quiet day here.

On the 4th we will BBQ and watch fireworks. We are having a 4th of July party at our house but it is on the 7th since the 4th falls on a Wednesday. We have a party at our house every year for the 4th and it is a lot of fun!
We have a Village party(15 minutes away) with local bands, activities for the kids, consession stands and fireworks at night. Quite a big celebration for our small area.

I'm assuming (I don't remember right now) that you have dial up?
yep dial -up it is-- --i have hopes of getting something faster when i can go get a job after i am well OR having the "package" my phone company has offered made available to my area in the fall--(it has high speed internet, your land line phone & high end cable offered for the price that I am paying for my land-line,-dial-up, and low end cable now---(I cannot wait)

The 4th and New Years are usually the only times a year that Aros and I actually drink. I doubt we'll go anywhere. The only reason we usually go to the fireworks is for the kids. It's too crowded for us to handle without them to motivate us into it.
My youngest has just moved into an apartment that faces the arch--I am hoping we get invited to view the fireworks there--but if not--somebody in the family usually has a party so all the family can get together & visit.

that sounds cool carol. i haven't been to the arch in 20+ years.
You know Jiffy, I have never been up in it, and living so close you would think i would have been, if not several times---
FYI:about 21 years ago my daughters school went and that would have been my 1 chance to go up in the arch--- but i had just had my youngest and could not leave the house yet (I had a c-cection)

i've never been up. when we were there, we spent about 5 hours, but it wasn't open for the day by the time we had to leave st. louis. that was nearly 23 years ago
I was taking to my Son-in-law last week--he calls me "ma'am"
I told him I was glad his mother raised him so well,-(and I know her) and that I was willing to acknowledge that fact--BUT it made me feel REALLY old and asked him not to call me that. I then explained to him that he would understand later in his life, but that I felt no older now, then i did when I was his age. (which is 27 BTW) and him calling me that reminded me that I was in fact much older than he.

I was thinking of starting my own thread about our town fireworks since I have lots of pictures to post, but decided against making a duplicate thread, so I hope the pics don't bog anyone down.
Every year, our town does a gala fireworks display and show at the community college which is just down the road from where we live. It starts off each year with 2-3 skydivers, weather permitting. Last night there were 2, but I could only get a so-so picture of one.
The past few years, the town has hired some ol' time band to come and sing before the fireworks. Two years ago it was [color:#006600]The Turtles - remember them??? Some people should really retire when the time is right - they were just awful! Tooooo bad...
Can't remember who we had last year, but last night it was The Shirells. A few of their original songs that they sang were "Soldier Boy, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, Dedicated To The One I Love, Mama Said". I thought they were pretty good, and they sang for a long time.
They also had something different this year - a GINORMOUS inflated screen that they put up in the wrong place - it blocked a lot of peoples view of the actual stage, but we always sit in the same spot so we were ok.
Just LOOK at this thing - it must have been about 20 feet high!!! Never saw anything like it before!
It is a good idea - they just need to work on the placement for next time.
Very nice pics Lynne! I love to watch the fireworks! It is always fun! Looks like your town has a big celebration! Nice to see! Thanks for sharing with us!
