I love my backyard. It's my refuge. It's my mountain getaway, even though I'm in hot, sandstorm beaten West Texas.
I get out everyday and pull a few
weeds, pinch a few blooms, curse the bouganvilla that WON'T bloom...
But every now and then, something comes along that reminds me of where I live. My inlaws came to visit one weekend, and were admiring our yard, and found a visitor. Here is my father-in-law with an unwanted guest...
It was a 5 foot long bull snake, sunning near my hibiscus. And we live in the middle of town!
Since they are non-poisonous, and eat rodents and other snakes (and he's obvioulsy well fed), my husband tried to push him into a bucket so he could dump it in the park. But the snake coiled and struck at my husband, and then CHASED him. DH had killed the snake before he came to his senses.
I don't know which is worst--knowing there was a huge snake in my yard, or wondering what he was eating to get so big!!
Still--i would rather have this than a bear!
