Since so many of us love these flowers, I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we could all post pictures of our different varieties and have them in one place.

Here are some of mine this morning:





These were originally purple coneflowers, but I guess the babies are blooming a bit pinker this year -

those are so beautiful...I don't have an...yet! I sowed some purple seeds yesterday with my wildflowewrs so hopefully I'll have some next year!

Mine at home havent opened yet. I'll try to get a pic of the orange and yellow ones outside if the weather clears up a bit.

Here is the yellow one I just purchased, Echinacea Sunrise:


My other plants aren't quite in bloom yet, maybe a week and they will be there.

I love anything yellow. Great choice !
Does anyone know if the classic dark pink echinacea is the native one, and the other colors new hybrids, or are there different color native ones?

The yellow is a hybrid, there is an orange that is a hybrid as well. Sunrise and Sunset I believe are their names.

My orange one above is Sunset.

These are beautiful!! I just planted ONE a couple of days ago, 'cause I didn't know if I'd like it. After seeing all of your pics, I may plant these around instead of shasta daisies!!

They are just what I was hoping for!

I wish Patti (patches) was still here - she had some very pretty pink ones too - can't remember the names - she had sent me some "seeds" last year. Unfortunately, most of what she sent was the fallen apart seed heads (the "chaff", or black spiney parts of the seed head). I'm going to have to go through the stuff and see if I can find any true seeds. I know we are all beginners at some point, and am not criticizing Patti - just wanted to point out the there are seeds and there are other parts to the seed heads.

You all DO know that baby coneflower plants bloom the second season, right?
So the baby plants usually do NOT bloom the first summer they grow...

As long as I can get them before the so called gardeners come along and dead head them, or as long as no visitors abscond with them before I have a chance. IF I see the 'gardeners" I'll ask them to save them for me. Just in case they had other ideas.

One more of the pinks and whites in the front yard, just starting to bloom. There is a Joe Pye weed plant behind and it looks like something is feasting on it.

Plants n pots...I have an extra 'Sunrise' if you'd trade for your pnk with the dark center in the first picture of this thread. I LOVE it!

As to the specifics, I'm not sure when we would ship these -- after bloom?

I planted some this year. I actually think that I put them in too small of a pot and that I need to move them. I don't have any buds yet, let alone blooms.

Manderlyh they wont bloom till their second year from seed. Did you start yours from seed or were they 'babies' from someone?

I see some of the coneflowers that are wonderfully full and tall. How long does it take for them to fill out that way? I have three plants right now, two purply-pinky and one white. They haven't bloomed yet, I planted them kind of late, (the purple ones today), and they're brand new plants.

I am posting this picture to show Suzy the color of my pinks now - they have deepend in color and are really actually called PURPLE coneflower - I guess I never noticed that they started out a paler pink!

The purple ones next to my mailbox are starting out very pale pink. The younger ones opened up really purple. May be an age thing?

How tall are those? They're awfully pretty!

These plants are almost MY HEIGHT!
Now... I'm not very tall - only 5'1", but I can barely see the tops of the tallest ones!

OK - this is a mystery! I've always been told that a coneflower plant will not bloom its first year. I have a few "babies" growing in a garden this summer. I moved most of them, to give them more room, at the beginning of summer. I thought this one was a baby of the sunset echinacea that I had bought last summer (it popped up next to it) - at least I was hoping it would be... but it has several buds and 1 bloom open and it's a baby from the purple ones nearby. Is it a myth that they don't bloom first year?

It's very healthy, and will be moved into the pond garden once we get that established.

Maybe if the seed fell from the very 1st spent bloom it had time to grow...then go through its cold period,so it bloomed this year after growing more.I had a list at one time of periennials you could trick into blooming the 1st year by sowing the seeds in early fall(septish here)I think it was a 'list of trudys winter sowing facts'

I bought some echinacea for $1 a pot at Lowes yesterday.I bought a razzmatazz for MIL also& harvest moon.

rhea salvia .50 ( but gave to lady at BIL job site)
purple mum.reg price.I don't have this color& already get to propagate.BIL laid dolly on it and crushed part of center.I have a stem rooting& think the others will hold off till done blooming.

Lovely photos.Go through them.Are 8 I believe.They didn't have the others in big sky seris marked down.I already plan on odering fragrant Angel& Hope.I'm waiting for the sale this weekend.

I'm also still searching out info on them.I've now learned what their crosses we're to be made.(purpurea x paradoxa )So I need to know if need to keep away from my purpeapea strain.From what I've always read& heard.The seeds do not grow true to plant,but will have likeness and similarity of parent& sometimes not as hardy.I sowed seeds of harvest moon in WS so won't really know much on those till next year and they've not grown much at all.SIL has the fushia native wildflower& some of the seedling plants thats washed lower in yard are different shades of pink and some are pale pink(I've moved some pale pinks to my yard...was teased cause was holding stems to flowers trying to match color paleness& she wanted them to stay in her yard...lol)I want them for the butterflys.

They do smell like a rose,but you have to stick your nose on it,but that could be cause they we're marked down and look 'not saleable-eye appealing' I just hope they will overwinter well& am still decideing where to plant.I know where harvest moon is going....with a daylilly close to same color and B&B salvia.I'll move some salvia and plant in that spot.

Your coneflowers look great. I started some from seed this past spring and about most of the plants are blooming....1st year.
