My next door neighbor made fried plantains for me today. YUM ! I've never had them. They taste like fried zucchini and are really good ! They don't taste like bananas at all, and that was a surprise. She's from Cuba, so these were the real thing.
There are endless things you can do with them, tell her if she could make you some "mofongo", or "mangu" which is mashed plantains with butter, yummy!! By the way did she make you green fried plaintains or the sweet ripe fried plantains?? The mofongo and the mangu are made with the green plaintans.
If you haven't got all the things you want, be grateful for the things you don't have that you don't want.
I didn't see the peels, but she called them green bananas. She showed me how to flatten the slices in a wooden thingie she found at an ethnic cooking shop, but she said they can be smashed on a paper bag too. You place a slice on a paper bag and then fold it over and smash it with a fist.
Plantains sound so yummy. I THINK I must have had them once when I was younger and lived in Florida.
What are those teeny tiny banananas called? Are they the same thing?

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart? The other heart was given to another for us to find.
Can you post a recipe for banananana lumpia, Jiffy?
