Well thank you!
Here are more photos,
how about the front? You guys miss my front photos, well I took some this afternoon and I have two new blooms in the front! Kinda of early though, extremely early if you ask me. I do not receive blooms these large until mid June!!
[Linked Image]

One that looks to be certain to bloom next week at the most!

[Linked Image]

These are my first Paul Bunyan's to bloom this year and they had to be in the front.

Taken this morning May 20, 2007.
Time is flying quickly I say! June is near. I'm quiet worried though as I am beginning to see signs of many blooms occuring. This usually occurs every year around mid june, but this year it's very early due to the very warm spring we have had here in california and not much rain and blue skies.
Anyways, here is an update, THANK YOU RITE!

Opened fully today!

More and more common sunflowers are starting to bloom. This is the beginning of what will be three months or more of blooming action! I'm now starting to see a few bees instead of one or two!!!

Note: all different plants, but all Common Sunflowers.

OMG Michael they are SOoooo Gorgeous!!! I agree the Burgandy one is wonderful!! The one survival of the seeds you sent that I started out of 5 ( I think you said it was the Paul Bunyan) is growing But with all the rain the lower leaves have gotten a fungus I believe But it is now about 3 1/2 foot tall Looks Kinda weak I hope it makes it!!! It is in Full sun Any suggestions to help it along?? I'll run out and take a pic so you can better tell what is going on with it!!

Okay Michael I took a pic doesn't it look sad??? As you can see it has lost it's leaves and there are still a few that are about to drop What can I do??

Okay, will it looks like it is simply getting a bit too much water. It looks like the top is pretty healthy and not wanting to give up it's growth. Have you check to see if any head is starting to develop?? Some plants tend to grow slower too, yet it could be your environment since it does rain a lot and the humidity must be bad?

As you can see, these two sunflowers are in the same area. Yet one isn't as tall as the other.
Just took these right now.

How can I get mine to bloom,I buy the basic 6ft plant then it grows into a monster of about 15 or more feet, but never gets a good bloom. The leaves are about the size of my cars hubcaps, but no blooms.I live on an old apple orchard could my soil be to acidic? In the fall cutting them down is like down a tree. It's not worth the trouble if I can't enjoy a lovely flower.

Here you go!

Sibly, can't believe how tall they are huh? Here is a sky HIGH PHOTO...
[Linked Image]

7in? they will get taller if you have them in full sun, and it does NOT and i repeat NOT rain so much, rain does slow down the growth and usually will stop it and create a head at only a few feet.

This is my first time on this web site so may be using the wrong forum. Please forgive! Bought two minature sunflower plants at a nursery but wasn't able to get them planted right away. Some of the flowers died but have noticed that the spent blossoms are germinating and more stems are growing out of them. Never ran into this before as one usually cuts off dead flowers. How do I take care of these? Can use the additional heigth.

i always leave the dead blooms on to get seeds,
im thinking thats what happend to yours, when the flowers die theres seeds ripened and started growing,,plant your seedlings in the ground

also welcome to the fourm dougie!!!
ya might wanna go to the new members and interduce yourself so we can all say hi to ya *big smiles*

Micheal,
I have been away and travelling a lot this summer so I haven't checked in here. I also couldn't find your sunflower thread in the new A Gardeners Forum...until today.
Wow...everything looks fantastic..I saw the pix of the burgundy that I sent you...they look fabulous as do all of your babies...

We had a drought down here in South Florida and they put us on water restrictions (down to only one or two days a week)...so I didn't plant my backyard sunflower garden...the 3 American Giants that I planted shriveled up in the heat...However, several volunteer seeds popped up around the yard and a few grew on their own in some odd places (like inside a pot next to a datura). I figured the birds dropped the seeds and that's where they grew.

My parents new home in Georgia was finally finished and when I was up there July 1 I scattered some of my seeds on the west side of the house without covering them or anything. The next week, my mom says many of them had sprouted and had 2 sets of leaves....I'll be back up there in a few weeks to check on them and thin them out a little.

I am going to bookmark this page so that I can find it again and I'll keep in touch with you.

Thanks again for sharing the wonderful pix of your garden!

Rite

Hi Michael.....

really dunno what to say actually...ahh what is there to say when everything has been said....n yet i simply do not wanna miss out letting u know i m 'spheechlessly-awed' by your flowers!!!

Keep up da terrific work....while having a marvellously-nice day in da garden!!

p/s wonder if i could trade something for your sunflower seeds later...!?

i believe that somewhere in da darkest night...a candle glows,
i believe for every drop of rain that falls...a flower grows....
