I have a dwarf Alberta spruce shrub that I planted last year and it's starting to turn brown. Someone has suggested spider mits, what's best to do about them?

I don't know about the mites, but I have a bonsai that the nursery says is an Alberta spruce. Just curious, what is the shape of your shrub? Conical or flat?

It's the shape of a regular spruce tree, just on a smaller scale.

Thanks. I wish I could know for sure what my bonsai is. Sure looks like a Scotch pine to me, but I guess the nurseryman would know. Mine is flat, and he said that it's called a birdnest Alberta spruce. I bought it at WalMart but asked a nurseryman at my favorite garden center, Armstrong.

Thanks Rugbyukr, I did that so now I'll see what will happen. I wonder if anyone else has had this problem before and what the shrub did once it was treated.

I had a dwarf alberta that had some brown spots, not all over. I gave it some holly tone and kept it well watered and it recovered fine.

spider mites are the single largest problem for dwarf alberta spruce.
treat it weekly until they are gone, then trat it monthly.

I can already see from my first treatment that my shrub is doing better. Thanks lots I hated to lose that one.
