My favorite kitten is being harassed by an unidentified snake. If it's a good, golpher eating snake, that's cool but she's gotta know if it is poisonous or not!

Can someone please ID this viper for her?

Thank you Bill....I don't like snakes.....he/she/it is approx. 6 ft. long and very pissed off now...he doesn't like the tip of his tail touched with a LONNNNNNg handled garden rake TWICE now.LOL Shooed him away once into the orange grove behind but he's baaaaaaccccckkkkk!!!! I don't like snakes!!!!

He was coming down my weed/gopher infested hill (anybody want some purslane or any other weed...plenty to go around...LOL)....I tried to direct him into the orchard the first time and he decided to climb into my smaller bouganvilla bush and hide for awhile....then I shooed him through the chainlink fence and now he is back.

I had a really nice looking black and yellow california king snake here last year...but I had the fire dept. come pick him up for relocation.
Did I forget to mention I don't like snakkkkkkkeeeeSSSSSS...

Personally, I really hate snakes. I would bag that sucker and take him far far FAR away!!

Here is a picture of a gopher snake. It looks very similar. But I am no expert and would not hazzard a guess.

That looks pretty close to the same snake. But I am no expert on snakes. Just know the ones we have around Texas,Oklahoma,New Mexico area's like the Rattler's been bit twice by Rattler's Copper Heads been bit by one of these two teach me to play with snakes huh? Not! Also have Side Winders, Cotton Mouth Moccosin as well as the Racers used to catch these and have races between the Red, Yellow and Green Racers won money and lost money on these races.

It is probably: Pine Snake, Bullsnake or Gopher Snake. All these names refer to the same species, a powerful constrictor that seeks out rodents in their burrows and occasionally climb trees in search of birds or eggs. Pine snake is the eastern ; bullsnake, the midwestern, gopher snake in the western states.

Thank goodness we only get garder snakes....and they only come if we don't cut the grass in a long time or if the garden gets overgrown.....like now.

Thank you for the info Papito....I was actually outside checking up on a mockingbird baby that flew out of the nest this morning....he was testing out his wings for several hours.....mother/father would swoop down, squaking at me protecting the baby. I also have three other nests on the property that I know of and a bunch of gopher holes right now.

Can those gopher snakes climb up a good sized liquid amber tree? The bottom branches are about 12 ft. off the ground....there is a baby bird in one of my bird boxes. I'm going to have to check out that bougainvilla bush and see if it happened to get the little hummingbird eggs. :rolleyes:

or still catlover : most snakes or more afraid of you then you are them they will run if given a chance even Rattle Snakes want to be left alone but if cornered they will strike make no mistake of that or if some fool keeps teasing them. But not me not me yeah right!

Put out some moth balls around the areas that you don't want him in and you shouldn't have anymore problems... Or-- maybe I should say put them out around a FEW of the places that you want it to stay away from the most...

O.K.-- one more bit of info and I'm done with the snake thing... from the apparent size and shape of the snake's head it does NOT appear to be poisonous... the length you stated tends to support that fact as well. Poisonous snakes that are truly indigenous to North America don't tend to get that long. As a GENERAL rule four to four and a half feet is way up on the scale for ones that are poisonous. Yes the snake can climb your tree but as I stated in my other post just put out some moth balls around your tree and wherever else you want to really protect from it and you should be o.k. I hope this make it a little easier for you to sleep tonight...

"Yes the snake can climb your tree"....thanks a lot...you know how heightened my senses are right now....so if that means he can climb that tree...he can climb my overhead trellis's that I have covering the whole length of my house on the back side and coming in my front door. Greeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeat!!!
Paranoia setting in!!!!

Guess who is baaaaaack this morning!!! I wonder if he/she/it has a nest of eggs already laid!!! It sure came back pretty quick after I shooed it off the first time.

That thing is NOT afraid of me at all. It just lays all stretched out....I can wave or lay that garden rake right next to his face and pound it and he won't move....my daughter tossed a few small pebbles at it yesterday on it's body and it didn't move. The only thing that upset him was when I was behind it and touched it's tail....then he was not a happy camper.

Well....just knowing he is not poisonous is a HUGE relief....it is just the not knowing where he is at all times or like this morning....walking the property with my cup of coffee and then there he is.....you know how much they blend into leaf litter!....was bad enough having to watch out above for big garden spiders...now having to watch for snakes dangling from tree branches. LOL

We had A LOT of rain this year so all the rodents have increased populations....so you know what happens to the snake population.
Where are those red~tailed hawks when you need them.LOL

There is a nest of screech(sp?)owls a couple houses over from here in some really big trees....I wonder if they would catch something that big. A few weeks ago, flying within 12 ft. of me was some kind of smaller hawk that had a big rat in it's claws....it was soooo cool....even if I had the camera right then it would of been too fast to get but ohhhh what a Kodak moment.

If that snake agrees to stay out of my way I will stay out of it's way(maybe I should get that in writing...LOL)....otherwise I am calling the fire dept. for snake relocation.

Go for the relocation. No matter what you get signed. Snake bites are nasty even when not the posionous variety. And your right they are not easy to see in natural surroundings. One suprised ooops can turn into one nasty owwwwwie.

A snakes teeth point inward so they cannot disengage even if they want to.
