Re: Sugar Maple Leaf Question TheGardenerGuy August 19th, 2011 at 09:18 AM
Hi...Im Back! smile

Our sugar maple in our front yard produced a LARGE abundance of seeds this year.
The seeds are starting to ripen and our tree is starting to change color already.
The foliage canopy, especially the crown was missing about 1/2 of its foliage.
We, in Northern IL, had a very unusual summer with hot and dry conditions..
Could this, combined with all the seed production, be the reason of the premature leaf color change and less foliage overall?
This is a 30+ year old tree and had never done this before and we would hate to lose it. eek

To delete your cookies, from here...
*on your PROFILE, at the top*
Then go to second column and
click on DELETE COOKIES....

Then I would delete your cookies from
your home computer and your history..

Then come back to the NEW FORUM and log in..

Any troubles give a big holler!!!!

*WE LOVE FAIRY GARDENS*
Not sure how many have them..
*I know Bill the owner of this site/forum
has one really neat one..*

I have looked up some stuff,
like faeries like to wash their hair
in a plant called "Ladies Mantle"
cause it's really neat when water holds
into the leave, it almost looks like Mercury
and it's like they can wash there hair in a sink..

They are sooooooooo much fun, really!!!

Dodge...this forum is closing for good.
We have moved to a different place...the entire forum is new there.

Everyone is there already...all the old members, all the different forums, like the seed swap, Banter Hall, etc.

Please click the link below and it will take you to the new forum where we are now. You will have to log in there with your user name (dodge) and your password. The log-in button is over on the right side of the page at the top.

I would transplant them. Sounds to me like they are struggling. They need more room. My 2 cents worth.

Re: Pepper seed starting joyce.225 March 25th, 2007 at 12:30 PM
Shawn,
Try taking one of those pepper seeds and put it in a moistened paper towel and enclose that in a small plastic bag or just wrap the whole thing in plastic wrap. Put this on top of your fridge and wait a week. After a week, open it up and see what's going on. If it didn't sprout, there is something wrong with the seeds. If it did, maybe it's the soil, container, too much watering or not enough. So many things can go wrong with seeds, and we blame ourselves for this, where it could be something we can't control. Can't loose anything, but maybe learn something.
