Wow Sarah, you are going to have a gorgous garden with that creek along the back. It will be so relaxing too. The house we used to live in had a creek that went alongside the property. I really miss the sound of it at this house. Will be looking forward to the pics at all stages of devolopment!!!

I am so happy for you, I know the excitement also of building a new home. Did you have to buy the house and lot then tear down the house to rebuild? I'm just curious, not trying to be nosey.
I wish I had an upstairs on my house but instead the renovations are going under. DH says it is to much trouble to rip off the roof.
Please keep us posted every step of the way.

It's a long, crazy story. As most of you know, my husband is a firefighter...well the guy who owned the previous house is a volunteer with the department. He was a friend of ours way before any of this happened.... Long story shortened...his house caught fire right before christmas last year and they basically lost everything. Two very promenent real estate broker in this town were holding the note on the house, and instead of doing the right thing and allowing him to use the insurance money to rebuild, they called the note do then and there. So, the whole thing has been super hard on him and his family. About 8 months ago, they bought another house, yet to get the rest of the insurance money, he needs to have this house to sheetrock by april...and we need a bigger house and lot. Seems to be working out, so far! There will be some dreadfully unhappy real estate brokers is this town when they figure all this out.

We have said the same things that are posted here to their face, and more. There are more details, but it sounds way more like a soap opera than real life, so I left them out. The only thing they don't know is who will own the house in the end. You reap what you sow...

Barley ~ I think you left out too many of the details for me to understand the story! Would you mind running it past me one more time?

The mudhole is progressing nicely! The hole itself has been filled and compacted, and foundation work should begin next week, alot with construction of a very nice fence. There is a six foot rule in this city, however, and I need taller than that to block out an unsightly yard next door. Any idaes? I was thinking maybe some bamboo in pots?

Do they have limit's on sizes of poles in the ground??? Do your fence and then just off of it, put in four posts, the one's towards your house or closer to it, make higher.. then put up lattice of wires and make a grape arbor... Blocks it out, most of the time when leaves are filled out.. with the lattice work, if you go that root, is a little more filled in so ther'es less visiable...the wires make it good and airy for the grapes though..

Looking very very good, Sarah! It isn't that pretty house next door that has the unsightly yard you need to block out, is it?

Barley ~ this is thrilling!
I would be very reluctant to use Bamboo, even in pots -- but that's just because I fought a futile battle with those things trying to eliminate them from near my house...
Any kind of arboring, though, with vines of one kind or another might do the trick just as well?

Thanks, Jiffy! I do not currently have a set of the house plans that are anywhere near small enough to scan. I have a builders set which is huge. Basically it's a 3 bedrooms, plus loft/fourth bedroom, 2 bathrooms all upstairs, and a living room, dining room, family room, kitchen and half bath downstairs.

Okay, after trying for WEEKS to figure out how to scan these oversize house plans, I FINALLY got over my MAJOR blonde moment and took pics of them. DUH!!! Why didn't I think of this sooner? Better yet...why did none of you suggest it? The outside:
