But really - those are GORGEOUS!!! Great finds! Each one is prettier than the last!
I could have gotten the first 2 earlier this summer, at 2 different nurseries, but these were the very expensive places so I held back. I'm so glad you were able to get them at Lowes though! I think maybe a visit to mine is in order very soon, but with my luck they won't have any since this one doesn't get in great plants unfortuntely. It's probably a good thing though, since the deer loves echinacea here...
Hope you enjoy these Diane - where have you planted them?
Thanks all! I have them planted where the Black eyed susans ( Up along same side of the fence as the Birdfeeder planter,), didn't come back this year for some odd reason,, that area gets about 6 hours of full sun everyday,, and further down is the fanfare and the blue mountain cone flower is beyond that, Btw it's getting bigger and bigger now Lynne so maybe blooms by Sept?? They had sooooo many of these at Lowes and they didn't dead head and seeds were just falling off at the touch,, the soil in all three of mine had many seeds just laying on top so I got an extra bonus with the buy,,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
nothing wrong with that! I especially love the 'Harvest Moon'! I've never had the patience to grow cone's since they are biennieals. I didn't know lowes sold them already in bloom. and you got some with seeds!

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it. ~Russel Baker
I go to Lowes on a mission everytime I go there, I only shop there for their flowers,, I never go inside the store,, Their gardening area is so very organized, they have their perennials on the first 4 tables,, starting with the lowest growing plants first for shade,, second two tables are full sun so those are the tables I always go straight to,, so they were easy to spot, I'm screwed if they ever change their format of plant placement,,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I guess I will have to pay more attention next time I go--which will be monday it seems --I always thought it was just a hodge podge in mine--perhaps there is SOME method to their madness after all???
but I AM going now for sure........
________
Life isn't about how to survive the storm, but how to dance in the rain!! .....
WOW Diane - I wish our Lowes was organized like that - it is a mess of drying out plants usually! If I'm not lucky enough to be there on a day of plant delivery it's a waste of time and gas to go there!!!
Diane, I'm convinced you live in a green house somewhere. I'll bet the humidity is making your hair fuzzy.
I wish I did live in a green house . No humidity here it's been sooooo dry here,, very bad spring and summer for rains. My water Bill is thru the roof watering everything I want to absolutely save from the heat,, it will get to 104 today not a drop of rain in the forecast suppose to stay that hot all week,, My hair is very very straight and thin all the heat does to it is make it even flatter than it already is,, humidity only makes me sweat more making it stick to my head,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
It's a disease caused by leaf hoppers - affects mostly in coneflowers. They are dwarfed and mutant. These pictures are pictures of Purple coneflowers that have been healthy for years!
I was at Lowe's yesterday and went to look at the plants. They had no coneflowers at all! I was disappointed. They didn't have many perennials for that matter. So...I didn't get anything....as far as plants go anyways. We have to paint our 2nd garage so we were there buying paint. Our house and attached garage is sided but not the other garage. I don't mind painting but it is a big garage.
awwwwwwwwww Jessica and Carol I'm sorry,, I was wondering if all Lowes carry the same flowers,, I noticed on the tag these were brought in from Florida,, So I figured they wouldn't go all the way to Ill or MN, , I'll go back to Lowes and see if any of them need some of the browned flower heads removed,, for ya
Naaaaaaaaaah I'm too scaredy to do that,, and not buy the plant
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I Know your'e so right Tamara,, But what if I get caught,? I couldn't even blame Cindy,, she's too far away,, and you three are even further away and I will be just stuck out there by my self with a handful of seeds and no intent to buy a plant,,, You guys are trying to get me in twouble
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Very nice htf! Though a bit too red for my taste - I'd prefer it more orange.
Just as I suspected... my Lowes had a very poor selection of plants yesterday and most of them were crispy fried! They even had a display of some very browned fuschias in large hanging pots - the signs said "take me home", so I thought they were free? Nooooo - they were on clearance for $5.99!!! GIVE ME A BREAK!!! The plants were all but dead!
Diane - you do remember that there are those of us on this website who are capable of getting a cake into jail, right??? (or were you not a member when that long thread was going on?) GET THOSE seeds!

Yep I remember,, well either I read it or was told about it,, I've sleep 3 years since then,,
Okay Okayyyyyyyyy ,,, I'll head to lowes tomorrow when I get off work,, IF you have to get a cake to me, after I'm forced to leave Lowes , at least make it red velvet,, K??? I'd better wear my scrubs to work tomorrow that have a lot of pockets in them Keeping in mind the whole time Tamara words of Advice,, Helping deadhead to promote more blooms ,, Anddddddd then they'd have more sales,,,,, * Gotta make them believe it's benefiting them* and looking for a trashcan ,, ,Okay Gotta it Tamara!!
HTF!!!!!!!!!!!! WOWWWWWWWWW I love that one! The color tones in it is like that of the Mexican fire bush,, I love the tips of the petals with that golden fireryness to it,,

Diane--While I know nothing of the thread Lynne talks about--I promise to find out--AND I promise to be a quick study and learn how to bake such a cake if the need arrises.
AND____TaDa !!
I live closer to you than my other 2 "partners in crime", so I am guessing the "cake baking" will fall upon me, HUH???

I've got one better,, I'll just print this card and take it with me
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
Diane - make sure you have that card with you at all times!!!
Afterall... you never know when a seed might jump out at you , or better yet, a cutting might be laying on the floor somewhere and you just might have to "rescue" it!!!
Carol - since you are closer... make sure that cake is regulation size, and the favorite flavor of the prison guards!
sounds good to me Carol keep those gaurds busy while I make my escape too bad Cindy doesn't live close,, she could play the air guitar to entertain them as they eat their cake,, Now that would be a great diversion

This is funny! Good luck getting the seeds Diane! I don't think the employees will pay any attention to you at all. They don't around here anyways. We have to search the store to find somebody to help us.
Diane - you do remember that there are those of us on this website who are capable of getting a cake into jail, right??? (or were you not a member when that long thread was going on?) GET THOSE seeds!
Well I did get some seeds,, But they had already been picked over pretty good, Only one coconut lime and harvest Moon left,, and 5 double pink delights, I got a fair amont of DP delights and one from each of the other two,, and I placed both those two in one pocket not thinking,, Now I don't know which is c-lime and which is harvest moon I had a pocket full of DP delights,, and loads of large Zinna's * You can see in blooming fine,& single shots in single shot thread,, * I also got purslane crossed with moss rose grande' these were awesome but not on sale ... large pink and white 5 petaled blooms,,
So I had a very productive day at Lowes and didn't need my get out of jail free card or a cake after all,,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I shorten the story about what happened yesterday, wanna hear it? here is goes,,, The cashier recognized me from the last few Fridays I've gone there,, She had heard me last time fussing out loud to my self about "if the workers here would just dead head these flowers they'd set off a lot more blooms and stop watering at two in the afternoon with the blazing sun on them on top of watering over the plants instead of at the bottom there wouldn't be so much fungus going on,," . and She saw me deadheading and just placing the spent blooms on the table. ANYWAY,,,,,,,,, She asked me are you going to dead head again,,?? I said excuse me ma'am?? she repeated again,, , well I er,,, they need it ya know?,, she said Noooo it's okay there are a 3 ladies that come in and complain about the same thing, and they dead head and take the seeds home with them,, I see them and don't care I now hand them snack sized ziplock bags, as long as they get me some I turn the other way ",, She asked me to get her some Zinna seeds from the plants on the clearance rack,, so I did,, in turn she Gave me a 2 gallon large pink Zinna plant, ,, so it goes to show it's good to have a repore' with a business you frequent and a good sense of humor as you walk in the door, and it's a bonus when you and the employee is on the same page,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
The Coconut lime and DBL Pink Delight is still giving ,me Blooms,. I do Believe the harvest Moon is done,, It's not dying back but not setting blooms either,,,
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
No it's Not that Big really this house I believe the land size is a lot and 1/2 what ever that means I read it on the deed.. The entire east side border and west side Border is Where all the flowers are . When I step out of the back door to the right I cleared a 10X10 ft sq area laid white rock down and created a sitting area ,, over the last 4 yrs it has transitioned into a rock garden/ fairy garden,/ sitting area with 2 sitting benches in it and the arbor gate,, and more and more flowers are getting planted in it , but there is still grass to mow,, IF I had my way I would only have flat smooth pebbled walking paths and NO grass to mow at all,, I would have the entire back yard in flowers and plants, sitting areas bird baths etc I'd LOVE to have a little pond ,, But,,,,,,,,, sadly I can't have my way, , so I settle on filling in the around the perimeter,,
here is one view standing on the east side of patio looking west
standing on same side of patio looking south
this is the east side along the fence looking south
and this is the rock garden a couple of years ago,, I don't think I have any current pictures of every angle But at least you have an idea, yes??
Last edited by angelblossom; Nov 2nd, 2008 at 12:36 AM. Reason: had to go look up old pictures Doesn't exactly look the same now,, as far as the plants and flowers go,, I've changed things up a bit,, but still 70% is grass
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
You have done a very good job. and what have in flowers is very nice.
Thanks for showing me. and I have no idea what the size of a "lot" is. mine is a but less than 1/2 acre. 154 ft by 134 ft or some such. ..again here too, it is jsut what the deed says.
I would love to have landscaped areas along the house on the other 3 sides (back is pretty much done as I'd like) and then do some 'gardening' in them, but nope--not gonna happen here either.

Diane, I like your yard. It's so neat. I would love to have an arbor like yours. Right now my entire yard is knee deep in leaves. Don't know why I'm surprised - it happens every year.
I'm putting gazing balls on my Christmas list for sure because I love that you have many. My daughters think they're tacky and have refused to buy me one even though I always tell them that's what I want. I only have 1 silver one that I bought myself. I've got a new plan. I'm going to tell Darbi, my grand daughter, because she will aggravate her mother until she buys me one. That's how I got my solid yellow unbrella.
Oh Sheri Gazing balls comes in sooooo many designs and colors now,, The choice is soooooo wide from Moziac to Pictures on them to solid, stripes , swirls, solor, multi splashes and the stand for them are the same From Collums to wrought Iron,, I am actually using a very very cheap candle holder turn Upside down using the base as a holder of the Earth looking Gazing ball,, and I have use terra cotta pots as a holder,, and when placed in the right area it really places a compliment to your areas,, I'm always moving mine around,, they are never at the same spot, well except for the orange and Yellow one,, I like where it is now,, and will probably keep it there,,, But a Blue one will stand out against orange or yellow flowers,, Use them in contrast color to your flowers or plants and it will "Pop" with color in that area, I'm a big fan of them,, Walmart carries them all year,, well at least they do here!
"Grace without perfection is more to be desired than perfection without grace."
I want to make my wildflower garden more like your sitting area. I don't have any furniture out there now but I do have a trellis of sorts. I've planted gourd vines on it once but this year they didn't come up, because of the drought, so it's bare. I didn't want to plant jasmine on it because of the bees but I would like to have something that will remain everygreen. I've not done anything much with that area because Johnny keeps talking about putting in a pool but it hasn't happened so I'm going for it. I'm going to put a few gazing balls out there. It's a big area.
I bet some of the Bleeding heart Vine will look good on the trellis,, I could start you a piece of it if you want me too, and Walmart and Target have those arches like I have in the Picture above,, The legs of it is even small enough to slip thru the Bottom hole of terracotta pots then fill with soil and plant something in a four of them it will help secure the arch IF I had been thinking I would have done that when I placed the first arch in, a Bench Idea is two large Terra cotta Pots turned up side down with a Wide board sat on top That would make a cool looking wildflower area bench ,, or even Large heavy plastic pots turned upside down for the same purpose,,

Remember these from last Year??
The Double Pink delight and harvest moon is coming back!!!!!! I removed the leaves I used to protect them from winter and there is green leaves on both of them, * more on the DPink Delight*,, There is no sign of life on the Coconut lime tho' , But keeping My fingers crossed, I did save seeds,, so I'll plant them and see what happens!!!!

I need some advice.......How soon can I plant my Coconut Lime, DBL Pinks and Harvest Moon seeds outside.--and how late can I do the same???? Are there any special directions????
****I need the how late, because Rod is going to 'redo' the edging of my flower bed at some point--and I do not think it will upset the garden proper, but one never knows.....****

I would as Soon as Possible ! Sooner you plant ~ sooner they Bloom! I sprinkled seeds around mine before it got cold, I believe the mother plant of the Coconut lime isn't coming back,, Not sure ,, But I think Not.
However I see little seedling coming up HOPEFULLY it's the seeds I planted and NOT some random Bird Gift!

Diane---I am SO VERY EXCITED for you--- MY Purple are still not up--too early here yet, I guess.
About me planting my CCL, DBL Pink & HM-- I was watching the local this morning-----apparently I cannot afford to have tender vegetation showing its head so soon here in this neck of the woods---I need to wait a few more weeks---which turns out to be good as next week we are suppose to get heavy rains---& that would just wash out my seed right??? I will wait until the first week of April---
