I was looking through some gardening catalogs from 2008 and am keeping an eye out for things that I want for next year. I used a lot of money buying houseplants (which most died from me gone for five weeks) and figured I would be better off buying some bulbs and such for the garden outside. I found this place which (I think) has really reasonable and cheap bulbs. I'm willing to bet the prices might go up a bit next year, but I'm hoping to be able to get these:
(this year's prices)
Dicentra alba (white bleeding heart) 1/$2.99 (probably just a root, but cheaper than the pink ones from walmart)
Oxalis 'Iron Cross' 12/$4.29
Bletilla striata (chinese ground orchid, real orchid) 2/$8.99 (hardy outside and cheaper than phals!)
Hymenocallis (peruvian daffodil) 2/$6.99 (they listed hymenocallis for 2/$6.99 and peruvian dafodil as a seperate listing for 1/$3.99)
Ranunculus (persian buttercup) 12/$3.99
Freesia 10/$4.49 (I've always wanted to try these)
Total comes to about $32, plus $5 shipping...assuming the cataloge comes in February, I can order in March, and if I save $10 a month, I'll have enough to buy what I want. If you order $40+ there' no shipping. Missing one hangout with my friends a month in exchange for so many cool flowers, i think is way worth it.

What plants do you want to add to your garden next year?

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

definitely I know I want a double blossom mock orange, two golden chain trees, A mess of orange pansies, a varigated weiglia, a redtwig clump, a witchazel, some japanese tree grass the golden one I think, paperwhites and snowdrops and yellow and orange crocuses, blueberries southern variety, dwarf anjou pear tree, dwarf bartlett pear tree, Naking cherry bushes, plum tree (I haven't figured out which one yet), MacIntosh dwarf apple tree, a hazel nut tree, an almond tree. Well maybe not next year. I'm making like a 10 year plan because there is so much I want to do.

2009 I'll probably be happy if I get in peppers and tomatoes in the veggie garden.

Here in the south we plant pansies for the winter - in October and they die back when it gets warm. For you in the cold weather now may be ok. They don't like the heat.
