This tasty strata will surely please any family but is elegant enough for company brunch. It must be refridgerated overnight, so plan ahead! lol

Ingredients:
8 thin slices bread
16 oz cooked asparagus
4 slices cheese of choice
scant amount shredded cheese of choice
4 slices of ham, optional
4 eggs
2 cups milk
salt & pepper
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard or 1 tsp prepared mustard

Directions:
Line an 8 in square baking dish that has been well buttered with four pieces of bread w/ crusts removed. Place one slice of cheese on each piece of bread. Cover evenly with asparagus. Add a slice of ham over each slice of bread if you are using ham. Top with the last 4 slices of bread. Now, in a separate bowl, mix together the milk and spices, add the four eggs and beat well. Pour over bread, asparagus & cheese in the baking dish. Refridgerate overnight.

In the morning, add scant amount of shredded cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until a knife comes out clean when inserted in the middle.

We were given two hands to hold, two eyes to see, two ears to listen & two legs to walk. But why were we given only one heart?
The other heart was given to another for us to find.

Oh Merme--that sounds SO yummy---but no one in my house likes Asparagus.

Hopefully I can scale it down to say 2 servings,---one for now & one for later---what ya think??? Perhaps I could even make it 1 serving for first--- why

You could also make it as is, Carol, and divide it up into freezer portions for lunches or dinners later.

The original recipe calls for American cheese, Carol Jean, but I prefer to use other varieties. I like Provolone. I like Swiss. I like the Cheddars. I'm just not a big fan of American (and believe it or not, this recipe called for PROCESSED American!)

So use whatever you like best!

Processed American? with that recipe? Haha! That sounds absolutely great otherwise, with Provolone or Swiss or whatever, and Carol, if no one else likes it, MORE FOR YOU! hehe I could eat half a pan of it in one sitting!
