This tasty strata will surely please any family but is elegant enough for company brunch. It must be refridgerated overnight, so plan ahead!
Ingredients:
8 thin slices bread
16 oz cooked asparagus
4 slices cheese of choice
scant amount shredded cheese of choice
4 slices of ham, optional
4 eggs
2 cups milk
salt &
pepper1/2 teaspoon dry mustard or 1 tsp prepared mustard
Directions:
Line an 8 in square baking dish that has been well buttered with four pieces of bread w/ crusts removed. Place one slice of cheese on each piece of bread. Cover evenly with asparagus. Add a slice of ham over each slice of bread if you are using ham. Top with the last 4 slices of bread. Now, in a separate bowl, mix together the milk and spices, add the four eggs and beat well. Pour over bread, asparagus & cheese in the baking dish. Refridgerate overnight.
In the morning, add scant amount of shredded cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until a knife comes out clean when inserted in the middle.
