Merme, I remember when you and Maxi had a great garden on the porch. I remember you talked about all types of containers and you planted a bunch of stuff. What all did you have on that porch? Did you rig up something for beans?

We had more flowers than I can even recall. For vegetables we had carrots, scallions, lettuce, radishes, tomatoes, squash, beans and green peppers. Some of the flowers were Sweet Pea, Lady Slippers, Pansies, Nasturtium, Chamomile, White Zinnias and a few other things I've forgotten the name of.

did you make a string trellis or some type of trellis for something to grow up. Maybe the sweet peas? My head if full of trivia tonight.

Yes, we used string trellises and we also used hanging upside down planting pots for the tomatoes.

what a long day for me. I'm glad it's over. I sat and watched a movie after I got home from work. hubby had already cooked and the kids had already eaten. I didn't even clean up the kitchen. I've just been enjoying resting.

I read something a few post back about ditchys kitty. gotta go find that. I'll be back.

I was at a friends house the other day and he had hanging upside down tomato plants. the plants were still pretty young, but he had 4-5 plants in ONE average size hanging basket. I didn't think that was enough soil, but I didn't say anything. maybe he'll transplant them later or maybe with hanging plants the 'rules' are different?

That does seem like overcrowding to me, Cricket. We used large food grade plastic buckets and put ONE cherry tomatoe in each bucket. The plants got HUGE and were so productive, it was amazing!

Many new gardeners don't realize how big tomatoe plants can get ... or how many tomatoes they produce.

I learned that lesson young.... the year my mom put in 1,000 tomatoe plants when I was a kid. Ay-yi-yi!

I'm soaking up the relaxing tonight cause tomorrow will be a busy day! bills to pay, house to clean, gotta go to the bank and close out an acct. thank goodness we are expecting lots of rain, cause I told the kids I'd take them to a subdivision garage sale. (you know those ritcy subdivisions that are only ALLOWED to have a garage sale one day a year, so pretty much every other house or so has lots of goodies?!!) I was looking forward to going myself, but I have to get done my 'have-to's', ya know? I'd like to get everything done by early afternoon so I can enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Maxi is going to a birthday party tomorrow. They are having a bbq and then going to the movies. It is predicted for rain, so I hope they made alternate plans to the cook out!
