Who is the Moss rose lady? :/ Was that Wheezy? Loz?

I'm planting seeds today (more!) and my 'book' says they should be chilled first. Do you bother doing this?

Cleome? Any special instructions? My book says to put in peat moss in a paper towel and put in fridge for 2 weeks.

Sometimes I follow this book, sometimes I don't.

I've grown cleome for the past 4 years and have never given them any special treatment. Sometimes I start them indoors, and others directly into the soil - either way works just fine here.

Thank you! I have a lot (A LOT) of seeds, some I bought, some were gifts (!), think I'll plant some indoors and sprinkle some along with them when I plant them this spring.

Moss roses will self seed if given half a chance. They are very simple. You can start them inside or direct sow either is fine.

The cleome don't really like being transplanted but they will recover. give them some room they do get big. And don't harvest the seed pods until they are brown or the seeds won't be viable.

Patty - cleome plants will get QUITE large - they can get over 5 feet tall, and a few feet wide if you let them, so don't crowd them when you sow the seeds! And... they will reseed from all the teensy seeds if you don't catch all the seed pods when they are ready. So, in this case, I would say "less is more"!

However... the baby plants are easily recognizable once you see what they look like,
so pulling out unwanted plants is easy.

Also... once the plant starts growing well, there will be numerous sharp PRICKERS along the stems - BE CAREFUL!
Another thing... some people say that the flowers give off an offensive smell - like skunks! I don't find the smell bothersome, but do like the fact that the deer around here do - it's one of the few plants I can grow without worrying about it getting eaten!
