Patty - cleome plants will get QUITE large - they can get over 5 feet tall, and a few feet wide if you let them, so don't crowd them when you sow the
seeds! And... they will reseed from all the teensy
seeds if you don't catch all the
seed pods when they are ready. So, in this case, I would say "less is more"!
However... the baby plants are easily recognizable once you see what they look like,
so pulling out unwanted plants is easy.
Also... once the plant starts
growing well, there will be numerous sharp PRICKERS along the stems - BE CAREFUL!
Another thing... some people say that the
flowers give off an offensive smell - like skunks! I don't find the smell bothersome, but do like the fact that the deer around here do - it's one of the few plants I can grow without worrying about it getting eaten!
