Last year and this summer I have grown orange and yellow flowers in the pond gardens and nearby, to accentuate the colors of the fish in the pond. When I was taking some pictures of the flowers today, I got a very cheesy feeling! haha See for yourself!

In the garden leading to the pond... orange mini zinnias

I have been trying to get a good shot of these calendulas all summer,
but they are just too bright for my camera's liking!

I don't think cheesy at all. I think is is very pretty. I buy mostly red, yellow orange hues myself. Unless I find something blue.

The "cheesy" was in reference to the colors, Tina - I kept thinking of assorted cheeses while taking the pictures - American, cheddar, etc! It was supposed to be a joke! why blush haha

But thanks for saying they are pretty! kissie

Thanks so much, Carol!

The calendulas are new to me this year - they are an annual plant here. I bought them in small 3 packs, and am very happy about the way they are filling out. I do deadhead them everyday, because if I don't, the flowers that are starting to die off make a mess of the gardens. They have very thin petals as they are dying and they fall all over everything making it look like it's all covered in skinny orange snow! Plus... deadheading has been making the plants fuller, so it's worth my time to do it!

Are they still blooming or do they die back quickly?

Funny you ask that, Sheri. Some of the plants are still doing ok, but many of them are about to be pulled out - all the rain we've had blackened the leaves on many and the stems are now starting to rot too. Such a shame - they were growing like gangbusters and made a nice garden.

Gosh. It's usually the lack of rain.

Time to bring this topic back up - I've got a few cheesy looking plants again this year!

The ones I am most happy about are the calendulas. grin About 1 1/2 months ago, I saw what looked like tiny calendula seedlings, so I moved them to be together in this garden, and they have done very well for me - I'm so excited that I didn't have to buy more of them again this year! bop

New to me this year, orange dwarf cosmos. I was only familiar with the much taller, usually pink variety. I am loving these too. luv
[Linked Image]

And crossing my fingers here, but this is the first time I've ever had some success with marigolds! thumbup They usually either burn out quickly here, or the woodchuck bites off all the flower heads - which really surprises me because animals are not supposed to like them because of their very pungent scent. why

Anyone have any cheesy flowers to share here this year? lol

Thanks Tamara and Carol.

I used to only plant pinks and purples mostly too, but ever since we had the small bathtub pond, I've gotten more into the oranges and yellows. They help brighten up the entire area. I still have the other colors in other areas of the yard though!
