Good morning everybody!
They say we will make it into the low 40's today and the even better news is that we will have bright sunshine! YAY! Clear and bright... gotta love that! (Especially since they are talking about snow this weekend).
Maxi is immersed in state educational testing this week. The kids hate it so but I keep encouraging him because it is important.

I'm having trouble staying on the forum this morning... my connection keeps breaking and even if it stays, the pages are taking a very long time to turn. AND the shout box comments keep disappearing!
I'm off to dialysis now, so I'll see you all around dinner time.
Hope everybody has a great day!!

Good morning. Lots of rain. I went tromping out to see how my drainage was holding up and it is good so far. I see where I need to improve some areas but that is easily done. Next trip out will include carrying a shovel with me.

Good afternoon everyone. Diane: I want some sun too--actually I want lots of sun... Merme: have a good day at Dialysis--or at least try to. Sorry about your comouter--mine is going a bit slow today for some reason too. Tina--Glad your drainage is ok--- BTW: When you get done using your shovel come on over here with it---we have rain coming in the smoke pipe that is on the fireplace. sometimes it just drips in & sometimes it pours in. Rod has looked the situation over and he says it might be getting blown in under the flashing is it called on the top of the smoke pipe--BUT he has a 5 gal bucket up in the attic to catch any of that that might come in. This AM the floor of the fireplace was wet and the bucket is bone dry--- did I mention that last week we got 4-1/3 inches of rain & no water and last night we got like 8/10 and here is the water----well it happened just like that---

It sounds like it depends on which way the wind is blowing the rain then, Carol. I have had rain come in near the stove pipe in prior years. I kind of liked the "plop, sizzle" sound when it landed on the hot stove myself but John went up and repaired it. Good old Henry's. We don't need the wood floors rotting under there. I have decided to make my raised bed with 12 inch stainless steel flashing. I bought 75 feet of it and am cutting out the ground for it now. I would have liked 18 inch but I just didn't feel good about the cost. The bottom of the whole area will be floored with coated aviary wire to keep burrowing critters from coming from underneath (for a couple years any way). The stakes to hold the flashing in place will be temporary right now until I make my own more permanent ones of cedar posts. I will cap the flashing with flat 2X6's so it won't cut anyone up and for seating. Or maybe narrower wood and no seating. My design is a floating idea still. It just has to be plantable soon because I have bulbs and plants waiting. Everything got backed up a bit by swine flu and things.

sounds nice, Tina--I will be sure to tell Rod--he will be pleased that you are using the steel and that you have consuidered and are dealing with the sharp edges.
I like the idea of using the aviary wire--that is a very wise move----the moles wil not like it but hey I think YOU will be happy.
Please do not over-do right now--we don't want you to have a relaps.

Boy Tina, you're moving right along. Wish you could post a picture of the finished product.
It has rained here most of the day. Not complaining though. Surely by now we're out of the drought.
Carol Jean, has he been up to check the flashing. We had the same problem and somehow the flashing got bent the wrong way or something like that. Anyway after Johnny got on the roof it stopped raining into the fire place.

I really just wanted something different there. It is the approach to what everyone thinks is my front door. And one of the few places between the gaps in my plants that can be seen when people walk by my house. I have the aviary wire already. It is something I have done before. It helps with the moles and gophers for sure. I will see if I can't get a pic or two to share.

Hi everybody ~ Tough day at dialysis today & things will be tricky until I get my arm amended next week. The difficulties mean I'm not dialysing as well as I should be, so I'm very tired. So you know I'm glad to be home!! Our weather today was downright lovely! It started out cold but warmed up and got ohsovery sunny it was a real treat!!! YAY!!! I made hamburger/sausage spaghetti for dinner tonight. Maxi has a pile of homework. He wrote a paper for Social Studies which his teacher told me the rough draft was very good. Tonight Maxi was supposed to type the paper. Unfortunately, he's lost it!! So, he'll re-write tonight after dinner and I will type for him. I'm allowed to be his scribe when needed. It may be a long evening!! Dinner's ready, so I'll be back when I can. Merme

Sheri: Thanks but that is the first thing that rod did---he is going back up on the roof, but not until it has stopped raining for a bit so it is not slick up there---

And I spoke to soon Carol Jean. I heard the rain hitting our gas logs a little while ago. It hasn't rained down our chimney since Johnny fixed it or so I thought, but come to think of it it's hardly rained until the last 2 weeks.

I tell ya what--if Rod comes up with a good idea when he goes up on the roof the next time, I will let you know about it for sure. Did yo uread that originally he put a bucket up in the attic by the pipe--and it caught the rain for awhile--but as I say now the bucket is bone dry, fireplace is not-. We have the fireplace going now to dry out the wet places---like Tina said we do not want a rotted floor in there Stay tuned.......

I am sorry the day was tough at dialysis--I hope the time goes quickly to the repair date for your arm. Supper is done here as well. Becasue Rod refuses to take a larger lunch to work he home so hungry, that I try to have it ready for him when he walks in the door, or close after that time. I am so sorry to hear that Maxi lost his paper---and as far as you typing it for him---I too had to do that a time or 2 in my Kids school career. I think it is a good thing. it teaches them that sometimes it is ok to give and receive help. And after all typing of the paper is just the busy work part.---

Carol can you get one of those metal chimney covers that stand up a bit away from the top? I do not know what they are called, or if they are expensive, but I've seen them. Maxi is in the shower now, supposed to be thinking about his paper, but I hear him singing at the top of his lungs. So his paper on whether or not we should celebrate American military heroes may start out with "la la la!!" Or, his newest favorite song "I've got a jar of dirt!" Yes, you are so right, Carol, sometimes a kid needs help and if it is just the typing and the work is their own, well, it is a good thing. After all, plenty of college students pay others to type papers for them. I made money typing for students when I was young. Merme

That crazy jar of dirt song, Carol, has something to do with one of the Pirates of The Caribbean movies. All the kids I know think it is very funny and use a sing-song voice to sing it. The second verse is "guess what's in my jar of dirt!" and someone is supposed to call out something silly such as "bananas" or "water" and they yell "NO! I have a jar of dirt!" It is whacky!! Maxi loves it so much he actually filled a jar with dirt, labeled it, and carries it around! It's been a long evening. Dinner, shower, homework, an on-line game that went badly for him, a melt down, a calm down, a drink, then bed. I'm so glad this day is over!!! Time for a cup of Red rose Tea. Merme

Good night everybody.
I have to get to bed soon. Tomorrow is going to be especially long because my girl called off. She said she had "car trouble" forgetting that she'd already told me she'd been invited to a motel party. At the time I told her "that sounds like fun as long as you remember you have to be at work at 8 AM". Oh well.

Good morning one and all! Coffee is ON! Nice and Hot and Delicious!! And hot chocolate for Miss Lynne or tea if she'd prefer.... she could have been smart enough to NOT tell you what she was doing I know, Carol, I know! This morning Maxi and I had a bit of a nasty surprise. He wanted a hat and gloves (smart kid; it is 31 out there), so I told him to pull out his hat/glove/scarf bin from the bottom of the hall closet. It's that's time of year... First, he couldn't open the hall closet door all the way. My previous attendant had put items in the closet in such a way that the door won't fully open because it is a bifold. Second, she put a hard plastic milk crate behind the door frames edge so it can't be pulled out so that we can get to what else is in there. Third, she put a huge flat box of Maxi's lego's standing on edge. I didn't know what that box was, and when I started to pull it out, everything fell out! Maxi's lego's or toys of any kind never go in that closet! Fourth, the covered bin we need is all the way at the end, behind the jammed door, and can't be pulled out because of the Lego box and the milk crate. Fifth, Maxi had to leave for the bus and couldn't stay and help me and my girl isn't coming today! I have no idea how I'm going to sort out that mess and get those lego's off the floor all by myself! And wonder of wonders all of that mess is right in front of my front door! And it isn't even 8 AM yet! Is it too early for a drink?! Merme

Today I am trying Diane's recipe for pulled pork. Then when I am at the grocery, I will pick up cole slaw and corn on the cob to go with. I have promised one of my dialysis tech's that if I can make the recipe taste as good as Diane does, then I will bring her some tomorrow for her dinner at work. She's never had it either! So I hope it turns out well.
I love using my crock pot and should really use it more.

I wish you a good and safe day.--- Everyone have a good day--- I am freezing so I guess I need to go and bundle up myself.---it is 45 right now but dark and damp, as it rained all night. I was looking forward to sleeping but I got a call at 8am---Our dentist wanted to know if Rod could come in today for some dental work he is having done, as they had a cancellation.--Oh well, I guess I needed to get up and get my day going anyway, huh??? Diane I guess yo have the day off so yo can get ready for your trip??---Don't work too hard, OK???

I thought I was staying for a bit, but I guess I need to go and get some work done here. The kids are coming over on Sunday afternoon so I need to at least pretend to clean the house some.-- Since the spine Dr said not too much work in one day, I will do a bit today, & some in the next few days.--- I am actually supposed to start with sweeping & wait & see how that goes--yea right---silly man--his wife must have a live in housekeeper, don't ya think??? I'll catch ya all later today or tonight..

Good morning. I slept in a little this morning so I hit the ground running. But Ted is at school and I have gotten a few things done too.

I just got home. We had four errands to run including the grocery. I spent $106 in there -- wowza, that is a lot to spend all at once!! But I'm happy with what I got, so YAY! My girl's boss is as sweet as she can be. At 25, she is the mother of two little ones. She is definitely her own person... very fashion forward, very pretty, and talks a blue streak! And, she and her husband recently bought a Caddilac SUV and I rode in it today. Now I am utterly convinced that my next car should be a Caddy!!! man dear, those leather seats can be individually heated so on cold Maine frosty winter mornings you can have the luxury of a toasty bottom! How nifty is that?!! Now I am so ready for a nap!! Merme

Hi all, Slept in again today and been slow getting moving today... but feel better so guess all the extra rest is working- glad you got your girls boss to help out today Merme- and those heated seats are wonderful, Teresas car has those too... does help when it's cold... we are warmer today but it's breezy... going to pick up Nicoli today -Carrie works late tonight but Jon isn't going to class so he will keep boys - they were going to spend the night otherwise... no school here tomorrow though so it would have been easy anyway . I have to get moving now... get something done- think I will stick some chicken in crock pot - want to real food .... tired of froz dinners. Nana
