I began planting hosta plants in my backyard a few years ago. Now I've been shopping all over for different kinds I see in plant books and I'm decorating my large backyard. The worst thing anyone could of ever of told me, is that I have an invasive weed taking over my lawn and flower garden. I'm told that it will eventually kill all of by plants, yet no one knows how to get rid of. It's spreading so quickly. Gout weed. It even sounds awful. To a fairly new gardener, this may make me want to hang up my wide rim hat and shovel. Can someone help me?

OMG..you are in trouble.

I planted two plants of this many many years ago when I was a new gardener..it has taken over. I even dug out the whole flower bed, removed all my plants and set them aside...tore out all the soil and sprayed a weed killer..and it still came back.

It is the worst thing ever..and has killed a lot of my plants as well...I am steady hand digging it out just to get a little control. Has it spread very far yet?

I must add, that I have decided that it will not win over me...I have taken out a few of my favorite plants and moved them..I planted a Snowball shrub in it's place and hang a birdhouse on a hook for color...I then dug out an oval shape and put down slab rocks so that it looks like it should be filled with the plant. I will not give in...keep your hat on and the shovel in hand kissie

See, if you can't beat 'em..join 'em. This was taken 3 years ago but it looks pretty much the same just added the birdhouse last year. flowers%20and%20such%202007/2007gardenpics012.jpg" alt="[Linked Image]" class="post-image" style="height:auto!important;max-width:100%!important;"/>

The thing that will slow the spread is keeping it trimmed so that no seed heads form.

Roundup, if you don't mind chemicals, will eventually kill it.
