I've been watching a starling for a couple of days now trying to take over the nest of a woodpecker. It literally stocks the woodpecker, At one point it actually did get in the tree hole but flew immediately out.
Here is the tree holes/home

They have fought off and on that I have seen,, Seems the starling is determined to take over,, I hope not,, I enjoy having this woodpecker living in my back yard.

What type of tree is this? I absolutely love the pic with the woodpecker peeping out!

Great shots, Angelblossom! That's a male Red-Bellied Woodpecker peaking out and that IS an Oak Tree. Starlings are ALWAYS trying to take over hollow nesting cavities.

Thanks!,, I think there may be eggs in there, I have a broken egg on the ground under that tree they were solid white .
