No haying here is always supposed to be around the first of August but usually the weather doesn't co-operate..this year it is. Haying for me means running equipment and hauling, loading and storing hay bales..a lot of heavy work(DH and I do it all ourselves)..which is going to screw up my plans to get to DD's at the first of this week. On another note, my sewing machine screwed up so bad that it hauled material into the chute, when I worked it free..I noticed it tore a hole and put runs into the material...meaning the whole quilt has to be taken apart and new pieces put in...I got mad and threw it into the closet..I'll just buy blankets.

Thats too bad about the quilt. Its always horrible when sucha big project ends up with something like that happening. Maybe in a week or month or so you'll be ready to pull it our of the closet and try again.

I assume that is why DH has a bit of time off?? second so sad to hear about the sewing machine. and of course the quilt. perhaps the quilts could be gifts for a later time??? Baby will need blankets for a while to come.

I do that, too, Tamara. I love sewing from scratch but do not like mending. If a project get messed up due to machinery or operator error, I often toss it into a ball someplace and tell it to rot. If it was an important project for me I will pull it out again when my mood is a little better. I have been repairing hoses and sprinklers today. And raking and weeding. I couldn't handle hay bales.

Yes, DH took this week off so he could make hay..I am hoping to work out a deal with someone so I can still make the trip, we'll see.
I'm not touching another sewing project until I can get a new sewing machine..so it just might sit for a spell. Although in September I can use the sewing machine at the quilt shop.
Tina, the hay bales are heavy...and need to be thrown high up in the air to land on the rows that are previously piled..then taken off and put on an elevator up to the barn then re-piled again, needless to say 'taking in day' is not looked forward too.

You gotta make hay while the sun shines. I have a good idea of what you do in haying, Tamara. John was an agriculture teacher and worked hard to put himself through school. Much in farming/ranching. And I see it all around me. Do you do the round baled or the square? First babies are notorious for being late. I also hope it all works out for you to do both.

hello. Just finished lunch. and decided that DH is going to have to settle for burgers for tonight's supper. The "boys" are staying after work tonight to "send off" one of the workers that has found a different job. Since I do not know when to have a meal ready and he will not feel like waiting for a long period of time after he gets home,---I figure burgers are quick & easy. here in a while I am going to go pick up an application for another job, I didnt get the other one. I do wish it were closer though. but oh well. and oh--its raining again......

Tina, last year we hired another farmer to make the large round bales for us..we did all the cutting, raking and such but he used his machine to just bale it but he is too far behind in his own work so we have to small square bale it ourselves this year.. If the baby is like her mother she'll have to be pulled out Sorry on not getting that job Carol, but yep we just have to keep trying. I have a whole chicken in the oven for supper..and must start on some meals to freeze this evening as well. So is Rod liking having his old job back?

Sorry to hear about the job Carol, that must mean that there is a better and closer one waiting for you. Tamara, hope you get the hay cutting chores done quicker than you think so you can get to DD's. Me, I slept in today and it felt great. I stayed up late with the family but I slept the whole night through with the exception for one potty break, and didn't wake up for 8 and 1/2 hours. I've got the grill heating up right now and I'm making eggs benedict for breakfast today. I made my blueberry poppyseed muffins last night and they are delicious! So, I'm going to have one of those, eggs, and a banana. One of these days I'll find a hollandaise recipe that I can eat. I've tried to make it myself and I've failed every time. Either that or it was awfully bland. I've laundry to do today and later this afternoon I'm going to attempt a 7 mile run. If I make it, it will be my longest run yet. I'm still trying to figure out how to wear my waist pack without aggravating my acid reflux. After breakfast I'm taking the girls and MIL to the mall and then tonight Joey and I are meeting them at the theater to see Eclipse. Finally, I get to see that movie and MIL is paying for my ticket for giving them the ride. I'm also going to try to find another running shirt that has a pocket. Mine has some weird spots all over it. MIL is almost out of the bathroom and then I have to wake up the girls and get them going in the shower while I'm making breakfast so that they'll be ready to go shortly after breakfast. Hoping to hear good things about Merme's appointment when I get back.

Oh, a funny thing happened last night. Well, you know under my username that it says Ballard Beaver. That's the high school that I had gone to. (Bill too) In September the girls will be at that school but it's a different building now. They tore it down and rebuilt a brand new school the summer after I graduated. Aros gets a message on his phone that is for the girls from the Ballard track coach. The girls ran track in middle school so I'm sure that's why he called. Anyway, Aros played the message on speaker phone and after the message was over I asked, what was that teachers name? Turns out that it was my old track coach, he's still there. I was laughing at the flood of memories that came back with that teachers name. Now I'm wondering how many other teachers are still there.

What happens to your hollandaise sauce Cheryl? I find you have to use a good butter to get the right taste. I take and melt a 1/2 cup butter on low heat and keep warm. Then in a stainless steel bowl I whisk 3 egg yolks for a few seconds than add 1 tbsp cold water, 1 tbsp lemon juice and whisk well then add in 1 tbsp cold butter and whisk some more..you'll see lumps of butter in it. I then take the bowl rest it into a pan of simmering hot water(on stove)..then whisk for a minute or two til you see the egg mix coating the whisk..I then take it off and add another 1 tbsp cold butter(it stops it from cooking) Now that it's off the stove and heat completely I then whisk in the remaining warm(not hot)melted butter a few spoonfuls at a time, you'll see it whisk up nice and thick like a whipping cream...and season it with pepper. Some people add a squirt of tabasco also. It's a lot of preparation but delicious..we use it on fish here as well.

thats a good story, I went to my high school reunion this year to find out that a teacher that had been teaching there for a decade before I started there is still going strong. I think he's been teaching there since sometime in the 70's

I have never attended a high school reunion. Last year would have been 40th. But as my husband retired from my old school I was active there and I know that none of my old teachers are left. I love a good hollandaise sauce.

I didn't go to my 10 year reunion, mainly because I was on crutches at the time, but also because everyone that I cared about in high school I'm still in touch with. And, I'm not good at social gatherings.
Tamara, I can't have dairy or soy so trying to make hollandaise without butter is a bit challenging.

Are you attending, Tamara? I thought about it but just found out a few minutes ago that another year (1975) has everything booked at the same time and place as well. There is going to be no place to park and not enough seats to sit in..I am beyond mad, they should have said when it was booked so dates and times could be changed. I'll play it all by ear now, plus tomorrow DH has a horse hauling contest to attend to, everything crammed into one day all within hours of each other..

Thanks everyone for your well wishes. Apparently they were misplaced. Well hear this. I was in the building filling out the application & what goes by but the H/R director with a snipit of a girl whom she was whisking into her office to fill out papers as they had just hired her for the job I was applying for. I should have been there at 8am I guess. so no job in 2 for 2. perhaps I am just too old. Rod is ok with his job now that his uniforms have come back in. It is all I could do to explain to him how they stopped them when he was laid off & it would take some time to have them reordered----well, he found out I was right so it is all good now (I hope) But he is still waiting on a call from another job that he applied for.-- I do hope that they call him. It would be for the 2nd interview.

Maxi is playing with his new fangs & went out to be with his buddies he hasn't seen all week. Dinner is cooking & I am tired tonight, so I am not planning anything strenuous. Gotta get some rest.
The day turned lovely here; a beautiful breeze picked up, the humidity dropped and the sun shone sweetly. It was great! Hard to see it end, though.
Maxi picked some of his summer squash for our dinner tonight. It is always such fun to eat out of the garden.
