Hi,

I'm new here, so hopefully I placed this post in the right spot on the forums!

I had a couple of questions about some Japanese Maples I'm growing. These are from seeds that blew off a much larger Japanese Maple from a big storm and starting growing, I dug most of them up and planted them.

This is a picture of the ones I have remaining (I had 180...the ones I put in peat pots died):

First question: What is going on with my plants? Here is one that has died, can anyone tell what may have happened?:

This one looks as if it is dying. It has white spots on it and it looks as if the leave has been eaten on by some sort of animal:

Second question: Is there some sort of pesticide or miracle grow product I can put on these to enhance the chances of growth and survival? What stage should I put such a product on a plant?

Third question: It is getting cold, almost winter. How can I ensure the survival of these plants? Some sort of small shelter? Can I lay a tarp over top of them and put them in a place out of the direct wind and sun?

Fourth question: When should I transplant my larger plants? And how should I transplant them, in the ground or into a larger pot?

Fifth question: Can I water my plants in the winter, will water freeze and kill the plants?

Sixth question: If I do transplant them, in what type of area should they be placed, such as the surroundings and amount of sunlight, etc?

Thanks for the help! egad

Thanks for the link Afgreyparrot, I had planned to move mine this fall. Now I know to wait until spring.
