I've been rolling an idea around in my head for a while.....it may be just a bit past my skill level, and I wanted to see if anyone else may have done anything similar.

I've noticed that generic transformers are available online and seem to have the appropriate outputs--wattage, amperage, etc. They're usually way cheaper than any landscape lighting transformer. I've thought of taking one of them, putting it into a weatherproof enclosure, removing the power tip & wiring in a terminal bar & going that way.

From surfing electronics surplus shops, I also think that I could buy electronic components & build something from scratch on a circuit board....I could even split out lighting areas & separate controls, that way. I'd mount that one inside, and run the power wires outside.

Has anyone ever tried anything similar? Or, have enough elec. knowledge to tell me if I'm off on a wild goose chase or not?

Thanks!
Tim

Hmm, I've seen lights run off of old car batteries so it might work.

I can't see why it wouldn't work. If the transformers the smae and you waterproof it yourself. You'll have to let us know if it works.

Ya that's what I was thinking, we have a set up for our electric fence and keep a pail over the top of it.
