I know I have the right number this time.
It is mighty chilly here today. With winds but not thoroughly destructive ones. Over 30,000 people are without power still from last Wednesday's winds. I am very lucky.
I am home for the rest of the day. A nap and then something for dinner in a bit.

Hmmm... a jet powered helicopter just flew over the hill... nervous
The fogsmog is finally beginning to blow away but the temps are sticking around 32°. uhuhh
Yesterday's trip TO the big city went off without a hitch. Took care of biz, finished Christmas shopping, and as we (I wasn't driving... my Yvonne has been inoperable for 2 months) were headed back to the valley for a nice dinner the car suddenly died in the middle of I5... 6 lanes of rush hour traffic with hundred foot visibility due to fogsmog, 34° and black ice...
Did the drivers in lanes 1 & 2 slow down to let me push the Volvo to the shoulder?
uhuhh uhuhh uhuhh uhuhh uhuhh uhuhh Fuhuhh
We finally got a nice drivers attention and she kindly created a barrier for us to seek refuge on the shoulder.
The battery was dead, so we made a couple calls and got Jenee's dad to rescue us with a fresh battery.
While we sat there in the freezing cold, a pickup truck's driver looked over to see what was up and promptly plowed into the rear of a Buick that had stopped in the fog. That was entertaining... notme
We had LOTS of flashing lights surrounding us so Jenee's dad found us easily. We switched batteries and headed back down to the valley prayers .
When we got into Monroe, the battery was dead again and so were we... in the middle of Highway 2. rspb Luckily, dad brought us two batteries... just in case, thumbup so we swapped to battery #3 and limped to a secure parking lot where we we were rescued again and delivered back to Cedar Hill. party

I KNEW there was a reason I hated to go back to civilization... Now I remember why! kilroy

Thank God for Hornitos! The breakfast, lunch and dinner of champions! adrink

Sounds like a bigger car problem than just batteries, Bill. Alternator or something else sucking up the power. I am very glad you have 'supplies' on hand.

Yes, winter solstice. And then the days will begin to stretch. Not fast enough but every little bit helps.

Good Morning,
Bill it sounds likean adventure to go to the "big city". Glad you made it home alright.

This morning is beautiful here, Crisp, just undering the freezing mark, but its still and there was just enough snow last night to cling to the trees but not the ground as its not frozen yet. Making for gorgeous postcard scenery but easy driving, if only all winter days were like today!!!

It definately starting to feel a bit more like Christmas. Now If I could only get home before the sun goes down to finish decorating the exterior!

Lol. I love all the seasons! And wouldn't want to rush into any of them. I couldn't imagine living in a country that didn't have all four of the seasons. I love the snow and just when I start to tire of the cold is about teh time spring pops up, Each season brings so much beauty and such a variety of activities that I love them all.

Santa has managed to find houses in the deserts all over the world.
I have wrapped more than half my gifts this morning. That is a load off my mind. I maybe went a little overboard this year. But it has been many years since I have. And I didn't have any wonderful ideas in the past few years. This year was better for inspiration.

I only buy for 2 people but they are hard people to find the perfect gift for. I hope they like what they are getting, otherwise, next year they will start getting a dollar per year, by age and I will save a bundle!

Good plan, Bill. Yes, money is my go-to gift for most of my kids. Whatever the market will bear any given year. I felt like purchasing this year, and I asked and kept on asking until I got answers.

I am only buying one present this year...same as last year and the year before that. I'm giving Brennan $100, which is not really a 'present', but I'm going to wrap it up in a box. He wants tools and fishing lures, so since I have no idea what kind of fishing lures or tools to get him he can buy them himself with the money.

I just don't have the money to buy Christmas presents, since I have so many people I would have to buy for. If I bought for one person I would feel bad not buying for the rest. I have one nephew I would like to buy something for, but can't get him something without getting all the other nieces and nephews something...it's just gotten too crazy for me. And, I am getting worse about shopping...I will go without stuff I need just to keep from having to go into a store. I don't know why I have a "shopping phobia", but I do....and it has gotten worse in the last year or so. The light above my stove burned out and I can't hardly see to cook, but I won't go into Wal-Mart to buy a new light bulb.

Sorry to hear that Cindy---If I were closer, I would come and take you out to do your shopping--perhaps if you were not alone it would work better ???

I am sure Brennan will be pleased with his gift. The young people in my family like that too. The rest of us draw names---& so each person only buys 1 gift & then we still get to get together---Plus at our age, who needs anything anyway...

Goodnight everyone---going to sleep now, in the morning Rod has an eye appt and I have my second eye appt post Right eye cataract surgery----
Catch you all later---g'nite... wavy

Good morning. I woke early with a very stuffy head. I'm hoping just allergies from whatever the winds brought with them. But whatever I have to live with it. I will survive.

You are making me glad I am not doing a tree or decorating again.
I am however getting a bunch of clothing and bedding together for a homeless guy the ranch next door adopted. I have given him food along with several of my neighbors. He seems OK. We will see how this 'stray' works out.

well it is only a chore this year b/c I only have the 1` week to do everything before the "restrictions" are put upon me again...usually I LOVE this time of year---
I am glad however that you are helping someone less fortunate---

every year my DH takes some of his $$$ and buys items for a pregancy resource center close to us--that too is a good thing...
he holidays are really about "giving" after all

oops-- the "grandpuppies loosened the one side of my livingroom curtain bracket....so while it did make me wash my sheers in there, I cannot put up the tree until DH repairs the hardware for the sheers as the tree goes right in front of the window----Oh well, there are other things to do.

But I did make up a "to do" list.
I did also wash my drapes--(well I ran them in the dryer--they have to be dry-cleaned & no time to do that right now.

and then I wrote out my family Christmas cards---but not much else--

well I am here-- shewinks--one must have their priorities after all

Good idea with the chair. My dogs dragged down the curtains in my living room, then my big oaf of a dog got himself all caught up in the blinds we used to have. Thankfully I was home so no harm done (to the dog anyway). I saved up and got these great roll up shades that the goofy dogs can't tear down or get stuck in.

I am always wishing I could win the lottery, too, but I never buy tickets either.

Guess I should have also said that while I have my decorations completed I have NOT wrapped one, single present. That will cut into my sitting back and enjoying time.

Guess I should be thankful, that while my dog is mean as a snake, she's too little to bring down the curtains.

Bill, I hope you weren't referring to Everett as 'the big city' neener Sorry about all the car trouble and I'm glad you made it back home safe. I, too, have my shopping done. It's nice to actually be able to shop for my family this year.

yes you should--my 3 grandpuppies (Siberian Huskey, lab mix, & a cattle dog mix)--while good natured, are too big & when here miss their "moms & dads" too much, so the window it is for them....I may have to consider keeping the chair in front of ther window even when I take down the tree. idea

I am not sure a chair will keep them from the window if they are watching for someone. I think I would try to take up the curtain somehow during their visits.
I have a nasty cold. I am taking life very easy for now.

So sorry about the cold, Tina--I hope it does not stick around long.

I think you are probably right about the dogs---I will have to get into the habit of tying them back for the puppies--

and a late night note---my "plastic base" of my artificial tree just busted--greAT !!!! I have a xmas tree on the floor--as my plastic base broke
Good news is so far I have only found like 5 ornaments that are broken.

Goodnight everyone
