Anyone have anything in the works or planned for this year?

I need to repair a decorative fence, start my fire pit and add some lupines to my gardens.

I'm just going to continue restoring the older gardens that went to hello while I took my little vacations over the last few years.
I have to move my raised bed garden because it is kinda in the middle of a new road down to the south 40.
I have LOTS of perennials to transplant, so the newer "Display Garden" will undoubtedly continue to grow this spring.
If I have time, I might even write a couple more plant pages too!

I'm hoping to double the size of the veggie garden that I put in last year. It work well enough that I want to try more stuff.
I also want to build a garden shed so I can get the million pots and gardening tool and such out of the basment.
If I find any time after that there are still several gardens that I need to be reclaimed. Most were over grown when we moved in and I only got to about half of them last year.

At this particular moment in time we're only going to have one garden spot rather than 3. We may end up with 2 because I like having the cukes planted in a place all to themselves. I want to be able to keep up with everything for once in my life and 3 gardens is just too many for this old woman.

I took out a few garden/flower beds over the years...things were going to 'hello' as well when I was sick. I have no more dreams of expanding anything anymore. Although if I had a tiller I as well would have a bigger veggie garden.

as we sit here all I have is 1 14 x 4 flower bed, & 3 smaller flower beds--

Come next spring we are going to move my veggie garden to higher ground. it was 10 x 12 or so. And as my DD & her DH bought me those 2 raised garden beds, I will have those and a additional garden plot for my asparagus and my tomatoes as well---

and oh, Bill--I will get photos of my dad's asparagus beds this summer for you since mine will not be up and running so well this year after all. Hopefully between me and my BIL we will maintain them for mom.

What kind of raised garden beds are they?

thery are like 30 by 34 by 18--they are up off of the ground so I do not have to bend so much---when Rod has them put together I will post a picture of them

this year im hoping to start a southern mulberry tree orchard any one have any tips iim planning to take cuttingds from one of my existing treees

Tell us about mulberry.. When we were kids we sang merry go round the mulberry bush.
Is all I know.

Is there good berrys on them?

Birds love them and will poop purple on every thing. They spread the seeds and they come up everywhere. Red looking berries and big leaves.

Wonder why kids danced around the mulberry bush?

Since money is very tight - I am going to start slow and concentrate on making the front yard look better. The area right under the front bay window that use to house big, old, and ugly evergreen bushes needs something. I have two tall planters for annuals that flank each side of the window, but I'd like something besides mulch on the ground. I'm thinking of planting Silver Beacon Nettle as a ground cover with a few hosta.

That will work.
Just remember Hosta will be lots taller than Netty.. If it is the one I have,it grows close to the ground an only a few inches tall.=Dwarf Marigold will grow nice there too..If you have seeds , start some in a container inside now.

Southern mulberry trees grow everywhere in tennessee. They are related to figs and hedge apples. the genus Morracie "i think thats what it is" is very easy to transplant, and is readily transplanted until they are about six feet tall. thet produce a very sweet, and juicy fruit at around memorial day. They make excellent pies and cobblers,but you have to add extra sugar because most of the natural sugars in the mulberry evaporate ,or something, when cooked. They also make an excellent wine. In my opinion much better than grape. you can also take cuttings from the tree. With mulberry cuttings the bigger the cutting the more likely it is to root. And Thats all about i know about mulberries.

Since I've moved here a year ago, Last year I had too much going on in my life, and not motivated to get outside to plant much or design areas. BUT this year I have the plant fever
Yesterday the boys and I created a "brug" area Bed. 2 weeks ago made another flower bed. This yard had nothing in it,, so I have a blank slate,, so we are still designing and deciding.
I take the boys to garden centers with me,, teach them what will survive in Tx heat, We are going to have a gnome/fairy area, a sitting area flower shade area,, it will probably take all summer to do it but what a learning experience for the boys

YAY !!!! And then hopefully the stories will begin again ?? I have a notebook of all of your stories--I intend to read them to my grands----when I have some--

Awww Thanks Carol .. matter of Fact Tre place Grandpoobah out and his sister Clove out yesterday,, I think He has stories in the future he may be taking it over someday .

Saturday we're painting our front door Benjamin Moore Red.

We're going to start remodeling our kitchen too. Not sure that will be completed before the end of this year though.

Oooh I always wanted to paint my front door a cranberry red but couldn't muster up the courage..please share a pic of yours when finished.

sunny, the deep reds look nice..my door is some deep/dark red..the guy did not leave the paint so I do not have the name. But it works well..

I will Sunflowers. I had picked out several shades of red and really like Tulip Red until I actually saw it painted on a chip. It has an undertone of pine. Another red I liked had an undertone of burgundy. Other had an orange undertone. So I finally decided on just plain Red. It's not fire engine red but just plain red. So be careful when picking from a magazine or the internet and carry your choice around the paint store and look at it in different light. Hopefully it will be finished tomorrow afternoon and I can get pictures.

The door is painted!!!! I'll get a picture tomorrow. I love it. Johnny does not.

Johnny can use the back door. Really, I have wanted to paint my doors forever and John liked the pale gray. I guess I could spring for some color now. And I haven't.

One of mine is pale grey and the other a light sandy color...I'd love color as well, DH does not.

Can't wait to see.
