I took a 2 hour nap. I had intended to work outside, as we have a wonderful day but I am too draggy to do much. So I deem today a day off for Carol. Everyone needs a nap once in a while. The 15th was 4 years since my stepson died and the 30th is 2 years since Johnny died and I've been struggling a little bit this month. I want to feel sorry for myself, really badly, but I'm trying not too cuz what good does it do? I've decided to plant a small garden, not sure why since I didn't eat hardly any of what I planted last year, but I can't seem to stop myself so today I fertilized strawbales for squash.

I think that sounds lika grand idea. ( The small garden) so you give a lot of it away...no matter you are having a good time and getting out in the fresh air. Good for you.
Sorry for the "Anniversaries" that are happening of late. I hope some more passed time will make these losses seem easier to think about.

Yup, it will get here....eventually but not before the storm again tomorrow. These past two weeks gave us as much snow as the month of December. I guess I'll have to garden in my dreams for awhile yet.

I'm going to direct sow. Sowing and then transplanting is a lot of work. I know you cold weather peeps have no choice but it will work out ok for me.
My farmers market opens for the season tomorrow and we've got 60% chance of rain. Wouldn't you just know it.

We had storms yesterday and last night. The schools in the area were all closing early..from noon to 1:00. To ensure everyone was home before the storms began.
We had computer generated tornado warnings last night, but none were sited in our area. I guess the high winds helped by blowing away from our area.
Today it is Sunny, cooler, but still windy.

Stay safe. I have been watching your news....such devastation from the tornado damage. They said that there were multiple fatalities as well.
The news has been so depressing lately, honestly....I should not watch it.

I agree but they need to set up the 'promised system' where kids can go online on storm days to stay ahead. We are still waiting years after it was to be started. They are calling for melting weather here all week ahead.

Yay for melting weather. See, I knew it had to begin eventually.
It was cold yesterday here...you know, after being in the 70's a few days ago. Mother Nature is really confused. My beautiful magnolia tree/ bush had all of its blooms froze a few days back. Some days ya gotta wonder.

I made a big bowl of popcorn, but I will fill a few Tupperware bowls (with lids) full of popcorn for future reference. Perhaps I will even give the kids some for snacks tomorrow after school.

The kids sprinkle theirs with white cheddar seasoning instead of butter. It reached 52*F here yesterday, the snow is melting and the mud is forming.

There are 5 eggs in the nest in the bluebird house And mockingbird nests and cardinal nests everywhere and I've already had to make a 2nd batch of hummingbird food. We went dress shopping again today. She's narrowed it down to two.

Oh you are SO lucky ! I am envious of all the birds that you get. I will live vicariously thru you, ok ?
I have hummingbird food and thistle out.. I have only seen 1 finch..and nothing else.
I do have a pair of Sparrows in a hanging pot on my front porch. I filled the pot with artificial greenery so I would not have to water it. The pair moved in the day after I hung in from my porch roof. Luckily I can watch from my livingroom.
But you still win ! Good for you !

We have to drink bottled water for a few weeks, drain the well in a few weeks time, add two bottles of Bleach. Let it sit overnight then drain the well again twice. They call it 'shocking the well'. It will be good to go by the middle of May.

Nope, not to young....I've heard that phrase many times. I'll fix my cracked ceiling and paint it in the meantime, by the time I house clean all the walls and such from the drywall dust.....it will be time to rake.

I guess it is always something, huh ? I had to cover plants last night...and will have to again tonight. We are having frost advisories. My potatoes Must have really liked being covered. They grew a lot overnight.

Sunny, how do you know you have surface water in your well? I've not heard of that happening around here thank goodness. I washed a kleenex with a load of clothes. Brother!!!! Speaking of birds: remember in my area a lot of them never leave. I have cardinals, black capped chickadees and robins all year long. Yellow finches and blue jays and eastern bluebirds return as soon as we have 1 warm day. Hummingbirds show up whenever they're ready

Covered most of my outdoor plants again tonight. I sure wish mother nature would make up her mind. You are one lucky lady, Sheri ! Besides birds year round you have clean kleenex.....(sorry I just could not resist) ps..I too have washed kleenex several times..and yes, it is a real mess.

What is the frost date where you are Junie? Bestofour, you can see cloudiness when you pour your water in a glass cup. If it is bad enough, you can also taste an 'off, old water' taste. Kleenex in the clothes....been there, done that as well.

Sunny, my frost dates are April 12 and October 20. But to my notion you can't go strictly by that.
We had frost a few times this last week, but at least there has been no hard freezes.
Rod saw my house Finch this morning, which reminds me, I need to change out my hummingbird feeder. The finch prefers that to the thistle I have the thistle next to the hummingbird feeder.

I hear you on the frost dates. In my lifetime I have seen two years where we had frost every single month during Summer.
I have to set up my birdfeeder as well. Hummingbirds only arrive around the middle of May here.

When I see a hummer I will be sure to say. All I have seen so far is a small 100% red type of bird. And a pair of house finches. None wants to eat my thistle. I guess I had better just buy some new thistle.
And yes there are the robins, sparrows and 1pair of Doves.

I have learned that the best bird seed here is the kind without corn. If a grain of corn is in the seed mix than the crows take over to the point of breaking the bird feeder.

Are they dead or in torpor? Here if we get really cold weather they will 'hibernate' like they are dead for hours. It is a strange thing....they call it a 'state of torpor' but I really don't know the real term.

Sorry to say the hummingbirds were definitely dead. Very strange. Not near the feeders but laying side by side. Can not figure it out.
Rain rain rain.
Did something really dumb today. Drove 30 miles in the pouring rain to get new glasses made and left my prescription laying on the table at home.

S till working at drywall repairs today, I have concluded that I am too picky when it comes to my own work. I have long thought that was the case. To help you out, when we first moved here, our grandson pulled open the front door too had and we had a small hole in the wall to repair. The repair went well, but not to painting of said repair. The previous owners left us several different gallons/quarts of paint, but sadly none or the color we needed. Rod tried to blend a bit of a few and while the result was not a perfect match, it was close. Point is, you can see the paint in that area is different, but no-one has asked us what happened. So perhaps you are being too hard on yourself.

See. I would have repainted the whole wall or it would drive me nuts. Then I'd tell myself, "well, may as well paint the whole room".

Yea well we would like the room painted. We both dislike brown. But the dining room area and the living room area are both all together. Plus there are vaulted ceilings in here. We can't do the painting and to hire it done would cost a fortune. Sad thing is the area is too low to hang a photo over it. So there it is to be seen my whomever comes in.

Speaking of painting we were getting ready to paint the inside of our house when Johnny died. I had picked out paint colors. I was thinking about it today actually and might get started on it.

My MIL hired her painting done. The lady that did it was quick, efficient, and tidy. Plus To my notion she was very reasonable. You might check around with friends and see if you could find someone that you would be happy with hiring. Well unless you like painting.

That is the problem here, I was the lady that your MIL hired (for my area). ~I have not painted for other people since GG was born. Well, I finally got my ceiling repaired to my liking. This week I will give the whole ceiling two fresh coats of paint then I can start the major clean up. It is time for the 'washing of the walls' anyway. It is calling for a whole week of rain starting tomorrow. The only good thing about that is that it will certainly melt all of our snow. Bestofour, I agree with Junie...ask around to see if someone local can help you.

Planted sunflower seeds today. Glad you can work together so well. That makes me smile. What color are your sunflowers ? I have seen red and blue ones advertized.

I still have not painted my ceiling. I fixed the drywall and primed the repair, put the paint cans on the table.....and did nothing else.

We have our water turned off. It will be off for 2 or so hours. Then we will have a boil order on for 24 hours. Wish I knew why.
