Hi all, I have been busy all week. I have learned to use the chainsaw....but it is taking me three times the amount of time so it slowed us down dramatically in the woods. lol

Next years wood is cut and will be all split by the end of day. It is calling for snow flurries this afternoon.

Hello Sheri, ! I heard talk of that last night when I went to my nieces fall party. ! But I didn't know it was going on now. Who is playing ?

I don't think I have ever heard of a female use a chainsaw. Good for you, Sunny. But I think you might want to not use it much. Accidents do happen..

I am glad you got your wood in though. Another job done as my MIL used to say.

Good morning !

Using a chainsaw is an added bonus around here. I hope to get one for myself though, DH's is so big and heavy(it was bought for using on the largest trees there are here)...it gets tiresome just lugging it.

We are seeing flurries in the air again...Winter is coming soon.

Yes, Rod's chain saw is big as well. Everyone's here is. But if handling them is hard then yes, a smaller on is in order. Being able to handle it is crucial I am sure.

I don't know that I'd even try one of the big chainsaws. If I need one of the gigantic trees cut down I'll have to get someone to do it so it doesn't hit the house or car anyway.

I was in Black Mountain yesterday visiting my mother and saw just a few flurries. Mostly fog that was scary.

It dried up for the evening here, but I still did not get as many kids as I usually do. I am sure Rod is happy of that. More candy left for him.

My Aunt dropped off her extra treats here as well for the grands...it is chocolate bar central. lol

I went to a little craft fair yesterday held locally, it was nice to be out and about but 75% of it was baking items.

I was not real pleased with what was available at the craft fair that we went to as well. There is another one locally in 2 weeks time. That one is usually nicer. I hope I can buy a Christmas gift or two there.

Be careful when buying homemade bread (and other baked goods for that matter). Check it to make sure it is fresh.

Yes, there is one lady who sells sweets at the fairs here, she thaws and refreezes her items from one fair/sale to the next. Yuck.

GG has a 'take your child to work day Wednesday'...she cannot follow DH(too dangerous) so she has to stay with me to work on the farm. She said I better take it easy that day. lol

My mother died this morning. I'm in a holding pattern waiting to see what arrangements my stepdad is going to make. We've been talking about it for a few weeks thinking he'd have an easier time before the fact but could never get him to pin anything down so now it's not done and we'll see what happens.

I hadn't thought about the freezing of baked items. I'm gonna ask before I buy.

Thank you.

We finally got some rain. I think it rained all night but it seems like spring because lots of things are blooming again.

We get the frost then the rebloom as well in October. The cold is here to stay this time around though. I need to wash my outside windows as soon as we get a day above 32* this week.

I have tilt in windows but still pay someone to clean them smile There are a few things I refuse to do and that's one of them.

I'm having a dump truck of screened top soil delivered tomorrow with a plan of hoping to redo some areas. I have a person who is supposed to shovel it around the yard for me. Hope he shows up.

No, I'm not moving to MS. They'll move sooner or later and I don't want to be there alone. I've got some low areas where I've had trees cut down that I'm going to fill in and an area under a swing where I'm going to plant grass. I've been picking up rocks all day.

PS Thank you for the lovely card.

I am glad you have help Bestofour. I'd be scared to ask what the price of a load of screened topsoil would be here, it is hard to come by.

Yesterday it hailed and snowed...then it melted through the night. thumbup

Good morning, did anyone get out to the Veteran's services? Sadly, I did not but we did watch the service on television.

It was a long weekend of farm repairs and Winter prep.

If there are services here, we don't know where. They DO decorate with dozens of Large American flags, so at least there is that. We used to have several services at home and we would often go to them. Here, if they have them noone announces them.

Once I read Sheri's post I realized I neglected to say, our church also recognizes all the veterans that did or do belong to the church.

Good morning.

I didn't go to a veterans service but they do have them in my small town. My church recognized the veterans we have going there.

Sunny, you don't have landscape places in your area? Seems they are all around here and sell all types of dirt and mulch and gravel and rock and I guess just about anything a person needs for a yard.

It will take me days to get all the rocks picked up in the areas where I want to put dirt. My yard is full of quartz rocks and I think the rocks cause the grass to die if we have a dry spell because they take up all the moisture - just my theory on that.

I am glad she stays in touch with you Bestofour.

There is one landscaping company an hour from here. Most topsoil is reserved for septic installations here, to finish the job to cover them. DH said it would now cost over $500 for a small load here.

Well, today I will give in and tie up the last remaining shrubs for Winter...Mother Nature is not staying away no matter how hard I beg her to. lol

Sunny I got 10 yards for a little over $400.00. They delivered it. I wish they would shovel it to where I want it to go smile

I sent dodge a birthday card too but she didn't mention it. Hope she got them. Wonder if she's still living in the same place.

Last I "spoke" to her I didn't ask her if she had moved, but now that you bring it up that is an option. She usually thanks me for her cards...(I like to know that my cards got to the intended recipient)

If I hear from her, I will be sure to let you know.

Good morning, freezing rain for tonight. I am definitely not attending parent-teacher meetings with the forecast.

I guess it is time to switch over and take out the Winter boots and such. uhuhh

Yes, I agree, staying home is the way to go. I am sure others will be doing the same.

I finished changing over our closets, etc. yesterday. "Another job done."

It is almost 4 am and we are coated in ice. DH got called out to work and I just cannot fall back to sleep, the phone ringing through the night always puts a 'knot' in my stomach.

I don't have enough clothes to change over closets, the only thing that gets switched out here are shoes/boots. I am glad that you have it done though...another thing finished to prep for the coming 'horrid' season. haha

Yes ma'am I am glad too. I just hope we don't have a real bad season. It seems down here if the weather gets really bad, we have ice. At home it was usually snow. Mind you it would thaw during the day and then the workers would not clean the water and slush off of the roads so there would be rough and smooth ice at night. Stopping at the stop signs was fun.....not.

And then there are all the hilly and windy (long I) roads here. How I long for nice flat straight roads again.

Good morning, we have been busy all day. We are redoing wire fencing with cedar pole fencing, it will take us years to do it all at the rate that we are going. lol

Look at it like this. When you are done, think how good you will both feel to have that job accomplished.

We used to get some snow but not lately. I'd like a little bit but without any ice. We're just not made for driving in the ice down here. smile

Here either. Too many wind-y hilly roads, and many of them have deep dishes along them.

Good morning, it is a mild day for today and tomorrow. The air smells so fresh and clean.

I have been chasing deer out of the yard this weekend. I think we had a 'baby boom' this year. lol

Here deer are moving this time of year..I guess they do the same in Canada, huh ???

It is coo!er here this morning..and A bit rainy. The weather app on my DH's tablet say in 5 minutes the rain chances go down to 5%. Now if it would just warm up a few degrees.

Good morning wavy

Good morning, another mild day. I might try to convince myself to put up all the outdoor Christmas lights. It sure is easier when they can still flex a bit...and the unfrozen fingers are a bonus as well. lol

I decorated my mantel today. I started to do everything but I'm having friends over next week and I decided to leave up the few Thanksgiving (actually fall) decorations I have out. The mantle was already started so I finished it. I wish I could post a picture on here. It's lovely.

Shelley, Darbi, Aubry, and I went to the Southern Christmas Show yesterday. So fun. BUT a chick fil a sandwich was $10.00!!!! I think that's price gouging and just plain wrong.

Bestofour, I do not know how people can afford to eat out all the time. I, like you was shocked yesterday. I went to pay the monthly bills and stopped at a sub place to pick up supper. I haven't been there in a couple of years but two subs used to be $20. Well, it was $32 yesterday...I told DH he better enjoy it because I won't be going back.

I wish I could figure out why both you and Junie cannot post pics. kissie

Me too ! It is just too complicated to me. I miss the free Photobucket.

We get coupons for our local Sub place. If we cannot use a coupon, we do not get them. You are correct. Prices are ridiculous anymore.

Yesterday I took a walk in the woods and tipped some trees for a wreath and a 'bucket' arrangement. I think I heard a chipmunk laughing at me, I was walking through the woods with a wheelbarrow. lol

We are still above freezing, which is good because if we got this weekends rain storms in snow...we'd be in a mess. It has rained ALL week.

I bet that was fun for you to do. It makes me smile to think of it.

But do you soak the greenery when you get it home. Many years ago when we lived in the country, I went to a local tree farm and bought a 12 ft rope of real greenery for the living room. I was told to soak it in my tub for 24 hours, then drain it some before putting it up. Then I was to mist it every day. It did smell nice though. Only time I did that. The tree farm went out of business soon after that year. I use an artificial one these days.

Most of the greenery is going outside, what comes inside I use those foam, wet blocks that the garden shops use.

We are getting a nasty rain storm today.

After a friend brought in greenery and put it on her mantle and after a few hours her mantle was covered in black bugs I always lay mine out somewhere for a while before bringing it in. I don't mist mine though, but it seems like it lasts a long time.

Sunny, I love walking in the woods. Might do that tomorrow. Even when it's windy in the yard the woods are so still.

Bugs? Yuck. I always soak my greenery in water before bringing it in for a small centerpiece.

I could walk for hours in the woods, sad part is that one has to do it here with a gun strapped to their back. We are over run with bears and coyotes.

Today is day 11 of our postal strike, it is going to be a mad rush when this is settled.

Day 11 ? Yikes I hope it gets over soon. They knew what they were doing when they chose right before Christmas to strike, huh ??

Cold and overcast here today.
The kids have school today and tomorrow. Then they are on a 5 day Thanksgiving break.

Washing clothes is on the agenda today.

They could have not picked a better time to strike, well for them anyway. For the rest of us, it is a hassle. A lot of small businesses are going to suffer, no one is going to order Christmas gifts if the mail isn't delivering and the back log is going to make it impossible to get what you want on time when they do go back.

I am hoping Amazon is still just a courier service, I need to make an order for GG this week.

I think Amazon will be there for you. Watch though. Remember how an independent delivery girl dropped off my rug cleaner to a random numbered house (same street name though,) in the next town. Luckily for me I knew there was another street in the next town with the same name as ours. Luckily for me the people had left it on a chair in the front of their house. I am sure I said all this before. ( I am thinking the delivery girl lost her job. I left a very " detailed" review.

Sunny do you think they'll settle the strike soon? My orders get delivered to neighbors a lot but thankfully they bring them over. Last week I got an email notification that the mail delivery person was unable to deliver to my mailbox or porch due to an obstacle. It was a lie. I called the post office and they basically said too bad you'll get it when you get it. It showed up 2 days later. People just don't want to do their job.

My mothers funeral was yesterday. It was a beautiful day and everything went well.

Bestofour, I am sending my condolences again on the passing of your mom. I am glad that the weather cooperated for the services.

I am not sure how long the strike will last but it is causing chaos. I have packages/cards here waiting to go but they will have to sit until it is all over with, even then...with the back log they will probably only arrive after Christmas. boohoo

Gosh Sunny. Hope the storm stops.

I went to a little town that has small business shops so I don't know a lot about black Friday sales. Can you get online or is your power out?

I did not get out shopping but I did get a small sewing machine at a good price for my grand daughter. About $60.00 off and free shipping. So yay !

Bestofour, we lost power off and on but a lot of people are on day 2 with no power, lines broke under the weight of the heavy, wet snow.

Junie, I would have loved to have a sewing machine as a young girl...you bought a great gift. kissie

GG and I are going tomorrow for our Christmas tree, then to the dollar store for her to finish shopping then to a coffee shop. We are making it an annual tradition. grin

Thanks for the nice comment, Sunny. I am sure she too will be happy.

Yay for traditions...a tree and the coffee shop..to me, those are great ones to have.

I have a Birthday party and a Christmas parade to go to today. BUT I think I will stay home and do none of it. I have things to accomplish here.

It was 24° when I got in my car to come to work this morning. That is soooo cold for us. Thankfully the wind isn't blowing like it has been the last 2 days or it would be awful. Cold for a parade Junie.

Junie, that is a good present and at a great deal. I've never been able to sew, took a class once, can't do it and neither do my children or my grand children.

I didn't bring my potted plants in and they got murdered. Guess I'm an accomplice since I knew the cold was coming smile Oh well. I was thinking of downsizing anyway. Now I have no choice.

I started decorating yesterday. Hope to finish and get the mess cleaned up tonight after work.

Yes it is very cold for a parade, Sheri. I was not going because of the cold, but since I am going now I am taking a few extra layers of clothes to wear and possibly a throw blanket. Heidi tells me the 2 of us will be keeping each other warm. So there is that.

My potted plants were on the sun porch. The ones outside are also deceased. But hey, my houseplants are in good shape.

I hope the cold is short lived Bestofour. When you are not used to it, it must be hard. Like us and the Summer heat. lol

Have fun at the parade Junie, we just got home. GG picked out her tree and finished her shopping.

Another job done as my MIL used to say, Sunny.

I have a notion that none of us know what cold is when we compared to your cold, Sunny.

So did your GG get a Charlie Brown tree ??

We got the tree for the house yesterday, we go cut her Charlie Brown tree today when she gets home. We were supposed to go yesterday but I ended up cooking the meat for my meat pies in the afternoon. If it was up to me, I'd just cut a tree from our homestead for the house but DH won't let me...he said they are too ugly. Well, the $35 price for the tree yesterday was ugly as well. haha

The post office is still on strike.

I have my bathroom reno to finish this morning, then make pastry for my meat pies this afternoon. I have a very busy week ahead, we have another storm to hit Thursday as well.

Sunny how many meat pies did you make?

It was 20° this morning. We're in the 20's until Monday then back up to 42° on Monday with a high of 61. Crazy weather.

I've just about got all the decorating finished. I'm pondering if I want to put ribbon on my tree or not.

Sheri: lay a bit of ribbon on the tree stand back and see if it adds enough to warrant adding it all. (just an idea).

Weather was crazy at home also. Below freezing for a few days and 55 today
Soon we will all be sick.

I am at my sister's for a few days. My DH will be helping our grands after school for the rest of the week. Oh to be a fly on the wall.

Bestofour, I made 14 pies to freeze....It is DH's favorite meal. If you are finished your decorating, you can come do mine. grin

Junie, you don't need to be a fly on the wall, I am sure the girls will tell you ALL the details. lol

It is storming here today, school is cancelled for the whole province.

Junie, if I was a good wife....I would have made more. lol

I cut a slice from the trunk and took in the Christmas tree, it is thawing in the stand at the moment. GG can decorate to her hearts content tonight.

It is storming so bad outdoors that I cannot see out my front window.

I cook 5 parts beef to 3 parts pork, cut like stew meat, salted in boiling water. Once the meat is cooked, I cool it and shred it. I add salt and pepper to taste, chopped onions and the broth from the cooked beef. You mix it all up and put it to rest in the fridge overnight. I then make my pie crust, add the meat and cover like any other pie. I then freeze them. I cook them straight from the freezer in the oven after that. They really call it 'tourtierre" it comes from the French side of my grandmother's family. They were made and the first one could only be eaten after Midnight mass on Christmas Eve,

Bestofour, the recipe for Snow is to live in Atlantic Canada. grin

Sounds yummy, Sunny. Except for the eating after midnight part. My mom's dad was French. I wonder if they made meat pies. . I have not been to midnight church since we moved to S. Missouri. The church we go to now is too far away and Rod is in bed way too early on any night. So I do not get to go to any of those special services.

Good morning wavy

Meat pies sound good. Send me a slice.

If you want a slice of pie then you are going to wait lol ....a very long time. Our postal service is on strike going on 4 weeks and now our Purolator service shut down because they can't handle the parcels being sent by them...they are overwhelmed. What a mess for the holidays.

We had a snow storm of over a foot followed by a wind storm. Today it is minus -4*F, the chill is in the air.

Gracious sunny. I can't imagine being that cold.

Aubry came over today and we decorated Christmas cookies. She stayed a while so I missed the town lightening of the Christmas tree but it's ok. We had a great time.

That's not cold, wait until February when we hit minus -40* F...some years we are spared, we had a very mild Winter last year.

I am glad Aubry came to visit, decorating cookies with Grammie/Nana is a fond memory that she will carry forever.

Today I am making egg rolls, taco and pizza rolls. These traditions are wearing me out. lol

I am glad Dodge is well.

It is good to hear that you gals have Christmas 'coming along'. I have to hand deliver some cards this evening since the post office is still on strike...what a mess that is.

I have about three feet of snow on my roof, and It is calling for freezing rain tonight and is warming up enough for heavy rain/wind tomorrow. This weather change is frustrating. So today I have to shovel roofs. My poor Uncle has been getting calls all day yesterday for roof shoveling, thankfully my mother is always first on his list. I have three roofs to shovel here so he takes the stress off me worrying about my mothers.

Jeepers Sunny. It's back up into the 60's here for the entire week and maybe next week too. I need to stop complaining about blowing leaves.

I am not familiar with the name Bestofour, we all use an alias here. I did a search for that name in our member list and it was not there.

Schools are delayed this morning due to freezing rain, in another hour they'll probably just cancel for the day. What crazy weather.

Junie, it was the house roof, main shed, my shed and the tractor shed...so really it is 4 roofs. lol

I have not ever heard the name either, Sheri, but thanks for checking, Sunny. Was/is she someone you knew, Sheri ?

Time flies doesn't it Bestofour. Is he your youngest grand??

Talking of mailing packages Junie, the government is trying to force the postal strike to be over by the middle of the week here. Fingers crossed.

1) yes, time does fly. I think it goes by too fast to my notion.

2) thanks, Sunny. Our news reported what your government is trying to do in that respect. I hope it works.

Happy December 14th everyone.

Colt is my youngest grandchild. Darbi, Colby, Aubry, Colt. Colby graduated suma cum laude and won an award for having the highest GPA in his class. Aubry's 17th birthday is the 17th.

Sunny I'm glad the US postal workers aren't allowed to strike.

The postal workers are being ordered back to work today...and they are not impressed. There is such a backlog that we were told not to go to mail anything until next Monday. There will be no pick up or delivery for a few days either.

I guess late is better than never.

Yes, late is better than never. And with that order, the craziness will begin next Monday instead of today, huh?

It is a beautiful day here. Sunny and a bit cold. IMO it gives a false sense of security to everyone, as rains and much much colder weather are beginning tomorrow.

Same here, we were covered in ice this morning. DH said there were so many accidents, it was awful...it has now warmed up and is melting. Mind you, it is calling for snow tomorrow night.

There is going to be a line up at the post offices on Monday. lol

I might have to, they are only open Monday for mailing...then closed on Christmas Eve Day and Christmas Day. Better late than never is going to be this years motto. why

You never showed up Junie. I had to do all the dishes by myself. lol

This afternoon, I will head out to the local grocery store to get a few things...then I have no plans to go anywhere until after the holidays.

I know I did not get there, Sunny. I am so sorry about that.

I don't think your mail will ever catch up Sunny. I can't imagine. I mailed my cards maybe 10 days ago in the hopes that they get where they're going in time. I had put a letter that was addressed to someone I don't know back in my box with a note saying "no one here by that name" and my post person left me a note apologizing. It wasn't her fault because it was my address but with someone else's name. She's trying to do a good job.

A friend and I went to Jekyll Island GA for a few days to see the Christmas lights. It was wonderful.

I am happy to hear you were out with a friend Bestofour, everyone needs to do more of those little trips. As far as the mail, it makes no sense to even try mail anything here until after the holidays...they are so overwhelmed that I am scared packages will get lost in the hustle.

It is minus -12*F here this morning, brrr and I spilled a bucket of water on myself at the barn. My pants were frozen by the time I got back in. Junie, do you think your daughter would like a horse to go with all that land?? tapfoot

Gosh that is sooo cold Sunny. The 28° this morning on the way to church just about did me in. We have the chidlrens play tonight and then tomorrow I'm going to take my stepdad to lunch. He says he's sitting out this Christmas and I don't blame him.

Where is Junie today? Hope she's not frozen somewhere.

Sunny, as "luck" would have it, my GG, Cora has an ongoing campaign for a horse. She has been asking for one for many years. So when she heard of the possible move her Dad's excuse of ," we don't have a place for one" went out the window immediately. Just last Saturday night, she asked Santa for one on our Polar Express train ride. He said he does not "make" live animals.

Sheri: Well, I went to Church, out to eat, the grocery store, and then I wrapped, gifts...and wrapped gifts some more.
But hey, I am done with the wrapping now.

Poor Cora, she tried hard. lol

It is colder today, thankfully I can hide inside for the day. I think today will be a 'clean and mop' day. One thing about these freezing temps, it is too cold to snow. One has to be grateful for something.

Where are you spending Christmas this year, Bestofour?

Yes, poor Cora. I doubt if she ever gets a horse.

Well it is supposed to rain for the next few days. Then it will supposedly get up into the high 50's or low 60's. Apparently Mother Nature is way confused. I am assuming storms will come with that. Not that, the storms are forecast.

I'll be home for Christmas. Ginger and Chris are coming here and Shelley and Tracy live right down the street so they'll be over here too. I think I'm all prepared. Hope so anyway. We had our play and dinner at church last night. Enjoyed it. I love all the hustle and bustle of Christmas.

Enjoy being home with your family Bestofour.

Sorry for the rain Junie, hopefully it stays mild.

I enjoy the hustle and bustle as well but not the stress of the day itself. I wish I could convince my family to let me make the meal on Christmas Eve so the day of Christmas can be easier.

Thanks, Sunny. I hope the rain is light as well.

About the Dinner. You could "announce" at Thanksgiving, that you will be hosting a Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve, and they are all welcome to attend. Say " you have plans for Christmas Day, and you want to see them all on Eve. If they press you for what you are doing say the truth. That you want a quiet day with your Immediate family. So you can enjoy the day with just them.

Merry Christmas Eve to everyone !!! toddy heart

I most certainly hope she can, Sheri.

It had been cold here today but the only rain we have had is a slight spitting, so at least there is that.

We first skyped with our DD and her family who live on the East coast
(Thankfully my SIL's parents were able to be there with them for the holiday)
Then we went to our DD's who lives here to see what the kids got for Christmas. We just returned from a nice visit with them.

The rest of the night will be quiet.

Well, glad Christmas Day was better, Sunny. IMO we all need a day to rest after everything we have been doing. You snow storm should have happened today or tomorrow so you would be forced to rest.
Today I had to clean the kitchen and wash clothes.
I think my day off will be tomorrow.

I'd rather snow than freezing rain...which we are getting warnings for already from Saturday night until Monday morning. tapfoot

These past few years, it seems Mother Nature has us mixed up with another region.

I'm still celebrating. Ging and her crew are here until the 30th and Shelley and her crew will join us for lunch on Sunday. Not freezing by any means but it is raining and will be for the next 3 days.
