How do you harvest seeds from them? My neighbour has those lilies. I'll check with her if you can find out how to help me harvest them.

If I'm not mistaken, once the flower is pollenated, the 'hip' will swell. Once prepared, the hip will turn brown, dry and split. The seeds are almost paper thin, and are lined on the inside of the pod/hip (sorta like how Hollyhock seeds a lined up)I believe they can take a few years to flower. I'll go around our neighbourhood to see if anyone has any and see if I can get you some bulblets, maybe be easier and more surely to grow

Helping the world one seed at a time

When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. Mary Ann LaPensee

Ya gotta be careful with lily seed because 90% of it isn't viable because there is no germ in it. Lilies shoudl be hand pollinated if you really want a lot of seed. When the pod splits, open it up and put all the seeds in a bowl. Blow across the bowl, and all the things that fly away only LOOKED like seed, they were empty. The things that stayed in the bottom of the bowl are viable. Take a look and you can see how much fatter and heavier they are than what flew away.

Ladystress, I have some marigold orange colored flowers, upright flower, and some dark orange red, alsoo upright, but I have to wait to see if any of the crosses took. Maybe you'd like to take a short cut and get bulb instead? If so, email me.

It doesn't take a long time to grow lilies from seed. They will bloom the second year, just like most perennials. (Except martagon lilies, but that's another story)

Ah, no, I was trying to describe the 2 colors of orange lilies I grow. One is a marigold orange, so lighter than what you might be wanting. The other is a reddish orange, so maybe darker than what you were wanting.
