Oh how cruel I've been refraining from doing that! Not only do I have lots of flowers and flowering trees in bloom, I saw my first hummer today! Having to help my daughter move this weekend but will make getting the feeders out a priority Sunday afternoon. The Bradfords are beginning to fade out down here. My Prairiefire crabapples, dogwoods, redbud, and peach and pear trees sure are pretty.

Oh, Thorny, that's mean and yes, I'm jealous! I've always loved the Bradford Pears! and I don't need any more shade, but if I had the room a Bradford Pear would be awesome.

Thorny, to you Beautiful, I won't be seeing any real blooms for quite a few months here. Can a pear tree grow in zone 4? And if so, do I need two of them for pollination?

Thornius, Thank your for sharing the blossoms on the tree. They are beautiful. Your blossoms will be long gone by the time our trees & flower beds even think of blooming. But oh are we looking forward to it.

Actually Bradford Pears do NOT produce any fruit to speak of, just TINY little brown round pears about the size of a pea that are full of tannin and are very bitter but non-toxic. Bradford pears are grown as an ornamental and shade tree. Their blossoms smell like old stale urine mixed with ammonia.

Been there, done that, in the Independent Republic of Texas. Yes, the flowers do smell like pee. Thankfully you have to get right up IN them to smell them. I'm new to the state and haven't had these trees before. I saw a Blue Jay with a 'berry' in its beak last December. Do birds eat them?

Oh my Thornius, I have so many of those type of trees around here in the central valley... They are beautiful! Though their blossoms smell don't please. It is haven right now, since all the petals are falling it looks like snow here in the warm central valley of Californian at 80 degrees! I don't have any in my neighborhood, but they are all over town and big just like yours!!+

I've seen birds eating the berries off the Bradford Pear. I've even tried them myself. A little bitter, but definitely a pear.

Thorny, beautiful but if it doesn't produce fruit and smells like pee, I think I'll pass. Reminds me of the first tree I ever bought. I wanted a crabapple tree so bad for making jelly. I bought one and waited 3 years to see fruit, only to find out it was an ornamental crabapple tree instead
