Got a tiny root cutting of this in May and now it's huge (and fragrant). It actually has even more trumpets on it this week.

Yes, it's in a pot. Started flowering about 2 months ago and been constant ever since. I'm in the Wash DC area so it will have to come in for the winter. Before I cut it back hard and store dormant in the basement I'll try taking some stem cuttings to give away.

Take a look at mine Larry!! wavey They are in the Webshots album under my signature here. I have 4 altogether right now. Dr Suess, Frosty Pink, Jamacian Yellow and a White--the yellow and white I got as small rooted cuttings late this Summer so they will not be flowering this year!! wavey I think Njoynit here--whom I know from other places--will be sending me cuttings of a few of her precious ones later this year!! They are such a JOY to have, care for and watch blooming--flush after flush!! My Frosty Pink is finished for the year but Dr Suess is going for the gusto!! Not quite as full as yours is but about 1/2 way there!! It has had as many as 10 blooms at a time before. Right now 7 are open and lots more to go!! Hope frost will hold off long enough for him to finish! hehehe

Hey, Njoynit--when do they go to seed?? Duh The Frosty Pink finished blooming and I am waiting to see if it goes to seed before I cut it back for the Winter?!! Thanks for any tips you might have.

(This is my 1st year with these delightful flowers!!) flw

Hey Larry and G-mom!

I'd love to try some of your cuttings whenever you're ready to share! kissies
I had 4 large plants that I grew from some seeds I got in an online trade about 5 years ago. They grew beautifully, and I overwintered them indoors for 4 winters successfully, BUT...
I never got a single Y or bloom on any of the 4 plants!!! What's up with that???

After the summer of '03, I trashed them, as they were taking up too much indoor space, and frustrating me to no end!

That said, I'd love to try them again, from established plants. Are there any secrets I should know about these beauties?

Thanks, Lynne

Man, you all are makin' me eek eek eek
I can't grow those up here in my zone, well, I could but I don't have any area to over winter them in....

Several years ago, I got one and would sit and smell the flowers, absolutely intoxicating!!!!!
I wished the air smelled like them.

Enjoy them for me too will ya???

What's the best way to exchange cuttings? Can you just snip off a piece of stem and mail it off as is? I don't know whne I'll be forced to take mine inside; it was 75 and sunny here today.

To share cuttings you would cut stem into 8 inch pieces marking them as you go with arrow to indicate which end is UP--very important!! Then either send with the bottom wrapped in wet paper towel then aluminum foil (to prevennt leakage) of place in water for 2-3 weeks until good roots are formed (you will in a day or two start to see littl white bumps all along the stem--this is the roots beginning to form) then wrap in wet paper towel and aluminum foil (also Press N Seal Wrap works quite well!!). Hope this helps!! cool

Bonnie.go into weatherunderground and look in almac for your zippie and can see when your frost date was last yr.

As to seed pods.you have to have 2 different kinds& will likely have to hand pollinate.sometimes a hawkmoth or hummer just don't do it.you can save your pollen if not bloom same time and keep pollin in fridge away from moisture.I do Q tips in zippie.I did have 2 seed pods growing and we got a cool front and they fell off.they take awhile to develope I was told.& was told I can't root cutting with seed pod have to root on plant as will cause pod to drop.I'll let the frost free folks play with pods.
